I just love the dynamic between duckman and corn fed. Corn fed could legitimately be working anywhere doing anything with his broad set of skills and mastery but he chooses to do cases with duckman who proves to be extremely lousy at his job, but cornfed sticks around just to be his day to day co worker buddy

Duckman and Cornfed work so well because they're two sides of a coin damned by society.
Cornfed is overqualified and his attempts to bettering the world, while effecient, are ultimately meaningless and unappreciated by the unfufilling standards of a working class society that is either too corrupt or not paid enough to allow Cornfed to be anything else than a cog in a machine that actually works.
Duckman is the victim of said society; the inside man that can blatantly see everything wrong with the world and is made to suffer for it. His cynicism and inability to properly cope with the horrible things life puts him through ends up being justification in itself for the world to keep treating him this way, and Duckman continues to get all the worse for it. He can't succeed and the world will never let him forget that, epitamizing him as the proverbial chew toy of society and woes that ultimately cant bring anyone happiness, let alone a person like Duckman.
In spite of both their flaws, Duckman and Cornfed truly understand each other. They keep each other grounded when otherwise they would be lost and miserable. It isnt the healthiest friendship, no, but their bond is all the stronger for it.
