It very well could have been shot on this same day. I think the air date of this episode and where the office was in production line up. Would make sense to justify filming in NY instead of LA for a tv that wasn't popular at the time and had such a low budget.

That’s cuz it is, I distinctly remember him doing a similar impression in an episode but speaking gibberish German instead of English, and holding something to his face to impersonate Hitler
The thing that makes the "40-Year-Old Virgin" poster so wonderful is that Steve Carell's smile tells you everything you need to know about that character. He is so earnest and hopeful, but about life in general, not the prospect of having sex. If you imagine it as a documentary, it's almost as if they told this guy he was going to be in a major motion picture, then took the picture, then told him the title of the movie.

Acting isn't creative? I'm glad I have you to tell me how acting (and "doing a poster"?) works... It's often said that acting is reacting, but my take has always been that of my acting teacher from high school: Don't do, be. I love Will Ferrell, but he does A LOT, whereas Carell can just be a character, be a person, without doing to much on top of it.
Well, I am one and I can tell you life feels 10 times more frustrating and depressing than the character in the movie.

That movie was a hit and had something to do with The Office being made and continued. Steve Carell became a star and pulled along with himself the entire cast of The Office. Hats off to you Michael Scott!
