No one, absolutely NO ONE, can be Dwight except Rainn Wilson.

Especially not Seth Rogen.

No one can do the psychopathic Dwight like Rainn Wilson. He's perfect.
You think that because you're looking as if these other actors were trying to be the Dwight you know (and not the Dwight of the original script).

Yes. I particularly love that aspect.
Yeah I like Bob odenkirk but no, Carell all the way.
Carell also does that type of "looking around smiling" thing naturally. If you see him in interview, he's very similar to how he acts
Also the lady who audition Pam, was a comedian and it wouldn't fit right.

Odenkirk’s Michael would have been different, but I think after a season or two they would’ve made him great. All the other characters were perfect, but at the same time they’re background characters so you can cut a character, or completely change the character to fit an actor’s skill set. This is why it's important to pick the right people, just not big names, for your cast. Office is legendary for that reason, I believe.
You are thinking in the perspective of 2003?
I love how Steve Carrell somehow made the interviewer laugh ten seconds into the audition. He didn't even know how he did it, or if he did then he just put on a forgetful persona. That's exactly the kind of energy they needed for someone playing Michael, effortlessly funny even when he's putting in too much effort.
It sounds like the actor who plays Toby, which could make sense considering he was one of the writers on the show!
Every other “Dwight” audition was a character I’ve seen before. Rainn really brought something special to that character
i was thinking the same thing. he nailed Dwight’s energy perfectly
100 %, his intensity made all the difference in the world
There's a reason my son is called rainn 😂
Mackenzie Cook as Gareth though…
Yeah man, he is freaking best.
Nobody could play Dwight like Rainn. I love his almost angry intensity. I feel like the other actors auditioning didn’t know what to do with the character.
I had the same feeling. Some actors actually look lost.
@Jesus has given you all. Repent or die. Make us
I think Mackenzie Crooke could do it. In a certain context, probably equal or better.
yeah i felt like they were trying to be a character that didnt care or just a guy with a lot of facts but Rainn brought an angry stuck up type of guy
On the flip side, this makes me think about Benedict Cumberbatch in the Sherlock pilot. He was _so_ different in that compared to the ensuing series. You never know how these guys' interpretations would've changed.
Rainn, Steve and Melora were born for their roles. Them being Dwight, Michael and Jan respectively is perfection.

I’m glad Seth didn’t get that roll
Rainn Wilson was just perfect for Dwight's character.
It's very interesting, because the others all went with a more down-to-the-earth, "realistic" interpretation of Dwight: the lonely, creepy weirdo that nobody likes to talk to because he always goes on about government conspiracies and obscure Pennsylvanian laws that would allow him to kill the entire office in self-defense if they so much as touched his stapler.
Rainn meanwhile went in a totally different direction by making Dwight this over-the-top, self-righteous, intense lunatic, a very cartoonish character, which has worked beautifully, especially when developping that Bugs Bunny/Elmer Fudd relationship with Jim.
Guess we will never find out

I'll raise you one more: The Office wouldn't have been what it was if Carell hadn't auditioned the way he did. He's playing Michael from season 2 onwards in that clip, not the one from season 1. It's like the producers rewatched that audition later during production and went "Yeah, let's go with that instead".
The whole cast of office was perfect, no doubts about that, apart from other shows where the jokes were sometimes forced upon using audiences laughing score, but this show was just perfect portraying how normal life of an individual can be so charismatic, fulls of ups and down and perfect balance of emotions, laughter and life long bond.
It’s in the eyes. Can’t teach that. Thank goodness the casting agents were able to see it ❤. Pure joy to watch this show.😊
Man, NBC took a HUGE risk casting all these unknown actors/actresses considering all the big names that auditioned before them. Kudos.
I’m guessing the big names would of took away from the documentary style.
I agree it was a huge risk, but it was also what made the show work. If it was all known actors, too many people wouldn't be able to suspend disbelief that this was just some paper company in PA.
Most of these people were not famous at the time
The "big names" auditions werent actually good though which is prolly why they didnt make it.
Right! Nowadays people cast big name actors, and the movie flops bc they weren’t the right fit.

@N Diesal Calling out someone for being racist isnt being a snowflake idiot
i just love the way the office characters are potrayed, especially jim dwight and michael.
The casting is perfect! Can't think of anyone else in these roles!
This really makes you realize how much actors and actresses contribute to their characters
100%
*actors is the appropriate title for all genders. You wouldn’t say lady engineer or lady teacher.
Exactly
@@Flatcap3775 i definitely WOULDN'T call the queen a king and the princess a prince i were to be alive back then in medieval ages.

John Krasinski (Jim) looks into the camera.
Director:- Ya, he is hired.
That’s just an impression of Tim from the original office.
He doesn’t look into it?
I bet they got chills when Steve was auditioning
It's crazy seeing them all on cast after the past year rewatching the office
The fake Jim sounded so boring. The real Jim sounded so bored. Love it
Thats not Fake Jim lmao
That not fake jim...
That's not fake Jim..
That’s not fake Jim…
That’s not fake Jim bro
nobody talks about the fact the jan is perfect for the role
had to scroll down for this. Absolutely true
Well yes good casting but she’s not irreplaceable...
@@thescorvog4678 she is in my opinion. dwight jim and jan were all perfect for the role and i couldn't imagine the office without those actors
I hated jan though but yea maybe
@@sfuikm jan the character or jan the actor if it was the character im with you i completely hated her
Wow, what a slate! Glad they chose the casting that they did -- they went for very genuine, honest, almost innocent (but also a good array of unique/wacky) portrayals of the characters.
The casting is so perfect 😭
They didn't just go with the big names, they casted so perfectly for these roles
I dont think alot of those people auditioning were considered "big names" back then
most of them weren't big names back than. or they definitely would have casted them
@@SonGoku5363 that's exactly what the original comment was saying
Even Steve Carrell wasn't really that famous back then
They probably didn't have the budget for all of these actors. They usually pick a few A listers/Hollywood people to prop up the show and bring in fans of of actors.
Rainn Wilson just gets the power of stillness. Everyone else was jumping around all over the place.
Nothing more unnerving that someone staying still and saying the craziest things
@@jarb151 Absolutely, unnerving is the word...
The other Dwights have this "look how goofy I'm being" undercurrent. Rainn's Dwight lives in his own world where he's the only serious one and everyone else is goofy
@@craigrussell3062 Yeah Rainn Wilson probably knew that it would be much funnier to play him straight.
@@craigrussell3062 brilliant
They were all born for their roles straight up
There’s something about the unblinking intensity of Raine’s delivery that is what makes Dwight so funny.

urine is sterile. okay? that’s a fact. did you know that? when you are in the field, you can clean a wound by wizzing on it. true. it is in the first-aid guide-book from the American Red Cross Association. so it is totally unfair for me to get in trouble for wizzing in the sink.

Fun fact: Angela Kinsey wasn't auditioning for Angela in this clip but for Pam.
you listen to office ladies podcast too?
@@katysch no it’s pretty well known
@@iibne1908 you should listen to it. It’s great.
@@katysch no, it’s just obvious by the “romantic and thrifty” line and the nervous mannerisms. Angela isn’t nervous like that ever lol
Meredith auditioning for jan too
The casting choices were perfect!!!
