Finally, correct balance. Even if it is a tad fast, the balance between pianist and violinist is perfect. This is a sonata for piano and violin, not for violin with piano accompaniment. She is not accompanying him she is performing a duet with him because this is a duo. Period!
i think Joshua and Yuja shiuld preform together more often because they sound absolutely AMAZING this is by far the best version ive heard of this song i cant get enough of it!!
One of the best interpretations of the past few years. Joshua Bell and Yuja Wang talk in a wonderful way and a precious and rare diamond comes out of their hands. Well done!
Selcuk Aytimur Well, I would respectfully disagree. I do not believe that Franck was an exceptional composer, while Beethoven was, yet this violin sonata of his is certainly much more interesting than most Beethoven's piano+instrument sonatas. But that's just my view.
Selcuk Aytimur Well, I wouldn't agree with that, but nevermind. I mean, we was a significant composer, but not an exceptional one, that's what I believe.
This video is a delight to hear. It is the most exciting Kreutzer sonata performance I've heard. The tempo is a tad fast but perhaps that was the only way to make it exciting. This performance was more about excitement than a poetic exposition. Bell and Yang play off each other well, though the violinist's screeching bow strokes marred the performance. The pianist is exemplary.
Fred MyOpinion entiendo y comparto totalmente su punto de vista estimado Fred. Lo real es que Bell es un producto de la propaganda, y sus posturas son insoportables.
I hear nothing "rough" or "metallic" in this. It is an exquisit piece and an inspiring interpretation by both musicians. Bravo and thanks for sharing it!
These two really get into orbit with this tour de force. Yujas' contibution in the development section is spellbinding. She must be amazing to play with. Pity they didn't repeat the exposition.
Of all the Beethoven sonatas for piano and violin this is my favorite. My favorite violinist for this is Milstein, playing via a mono Capitol lp, which I proudly own.
12-17-19 WOW WOW WOW!!!!! It exults my being------I have no soul, no such thing as a soul!!! So, can you imagine what I am thinking as I listen to this? This is a fantastic presentation!!!
well if you practice 2 hours a day, in a year thats 730 hours, in 10 years you will have practiced 304 days worth of piano, and if you do it correctly you can probably play it in half of that time. dedication and method of study. but lets be real even 2 hours a day is hard to do.
The thing is tho this piano isnt even that hard lol I'm 12 and I've played it as a duet with a friend, and she's 10. Tbf we both go to th guildhall but just saying. If you want hard try liszt transcendal etudes. The hardest piece I can personally play is Chopin ballade 4 but even that is no-where near. About the same standard- grand etudes de paganini
That was exciting, even with the wardrobe malfunction. I'm very happy to see these new Yuja Wang postings and her pairing with Josha Bell only enhance her status with me. I see CK is here to express his strange-love. I hope this Verbier Concert makes it to the DVD market, its been a year or more since a YW product became available on Amazon.
Beethoven was his own greatest talent. He has never been topped. No god, or whatever had anything to do with it. Its was Beethoven, Talent and Diligent hard work (hearing it inside and being able to convey it) Hail Beethoven!
"Nothing is good enough. So let us do what is right, devote the best of our efforts to reach the unattainable, to develop to the maximum the gifts that God has given us, and never stop learning."
excellently performed. One of my favourite pieces... and played at just the right pace. Not rushed, the way it is sometimes (incorrectly IMHO) performed :) Bravo & brava!
Yuja replaced the great Lupu in Beethoven's Concerto 4 in 2006 and stole the show. So she can be great in Beethoven. She also replace Argerich 3 times in 2011 in Tchaikovsky's 1st Concerto. She practically sight read those two concertos. She is set to perform Beethoven's Concert 3 and the Brahm's concerto 2 next year. We shall see how well she does them.
Paul Fraker You're flying to Hong Kong to see her? Lucky you. I read she's playing the Beethoven 3rd and the Brahm's 2nd in June. I'm hoping to go to her Carnegie Hall recital this December. I hope it's not sold out yet.
Excellent performance!! Bravo! Do not mind the few negative comments like Fred MyOpinion. It comes from few persons in connection with each other who in a disgusting way harasses several artists here on you tube. They have no undertanding of music, looking at their comments. This is NOT an invitation debate with any of them - I do not know their motives, but in my opinion it's only ppl with missing culture and manners who act like that.
It's pathetique how in a world of such overwhelming tragedies and self destruction, there are such negative and ignorant comments of criticism of anyone with exceptional talent who contributes nothing but happiness to the world. Why do some of you have to praise and in the same breath have to find critique in comparison to other musicians, especially when you have and never will be known for anything of achievement?
+Fred MyOpinion Was your comment meant as a joke that reflects the sad truth that he was just expressing? Isn't it obvious that English might not be his first language? How many languages can you express yourself in bruh?
If you tolerate/enjoy film music, there's the soundtrack to "Summer in February." I read somewhere she'll record Prokofiev 3/Rach3 within a year. Those could be rumors though, I haven't been able to find the "article" since.
I don't know what bothers me more. The fact that he is rushing or sometime doesn't play notes muscally. For example at 3:46 he cut that last note too quickly and didn't put emphasis on it whereas all the other notes be forehand he would try to. He does it again where he plays the notes too fast and puts little emphasis on them 5:39. But hey whatever makes you worth 20 mill makes you worth 20 mill 🤷🏻♂️
You know you practiced till you could see the bones in your fingers when you are barely looking at your Sheet Music, except for reference. (In reference to Mr. Bell) I have been practicing the Kreutzer so a friend of mine and I can perform it in public.
Is it just me that finds joshua bell's playing/violin is a little quiet sounding? well maybe ofc it might be his interpretation and style-But since this a fiery and fierce piece - wouldn't it be better if he made his playing a little bit louder? From what i know his violin is a stradivari and stradivarius violins were undeniable expensive- the resonance is also amazing...
A tad too much solemnity at the outset. Nothing wrong with a bit of suspense - but not at the cost of maintaining the flow...I will say that when they get going - they really do create a spine-tingling excitement. If only they didn't gesticulate and accent quite this much.
Wonderful playing but I have notice that at important climaxes the pianist covers the violin. I noticed this in live concert. I wish accompanists were more sensitive to this.
This is often the case with works like this written before the expanded dynamics and power in piano development . And in larger halls, this can be a problem too-these were written to be played in homes or at least 'chambers' much more intimate in their day than our concert venues. So it is difficult to get balance right -recording doing a much better job of it than live...
***** The fact you make such a demonstrably stupid and musically invalid remark, leads one to believe you are too congenitally biased/bigoted/or untutored to be a good critic :-)
The original scores of all 10 violin sonatas had it printed as Sonata for Piano & Violin, not violin sonata with piano accompaniment. This is in fact a DUO. Do not expect the PIANO to stay in the shadow all the time. In many cases the violin was doing the accompaniment.
This is not a solo piece for violin with piano. It is a sonata for the two instruments and a rather complicated one at that. All of Beethoven's piano chamber music are written with such interplay in the parts... In fact the unpublished piano quartets have more piano then the other instruments. In this case the violin and piano are equal, I've played both parts and they both the same amount of work in different ways.
Bell is smaltzy and sloppy while YW is hollow and unseasoned. They communicate well though w/ one another and it's an exciting performance nevertheless.
Finally, correct balance. Even if it is a tad fast, the balance between pianist and violinist is perfect. This is a sonata for piano and violin, not for violin with piano accompaniment. She is not accompanying him she is performing a duet with him because this is a duo. Period!
Bart Watts Period. Nothing to add what so ever.
yes...your lie in april docet

Amanda Rivera Try the Argerich/Kremer recording. It’s terrific.
Incredible synergy between these two musicians of genius … and the result is a Beethoven played with true inspiration ...
The greatest work for violin and piano played by two supreme artists at their peak....simply awesome
One of the best interpretations of the past few years. Joshua Bell and Yuja Wang talk in a wonderful way and a precious and rare diamond comes out of their hands. Well done!
Ms Wang is so AWESOME! Takes one's breath away. 🌹
more genius than I can perceive: composer, artists, page turner, builder of instruments and creator for being able to hear and enjoy...🙏🙏🙏
Wow, Beethoven was truly a genius. Amazing interpretation.
There is no other sonata ever approaching to Kreutzer and excellent performance!
Try Franck's violin sonata.
P. Marios Christodoulou Franck's sonata is good, I know it for more than 35 years :-) But, it cannot approach to Kreutzer!
Selcuk Aytimur Well, I would respectfully disagree. I do not believe that Franck was an exceptional composer, while Beethoven was, yet this violin sonata of his is certainly much more interesting than most Beethoven's piano+instrument sonatas. But that's just my view.

6 years ago I played the 1st movement with my Dad. This brings back fond memories. Fortunately I am a man and I didn't have the strap problem, lol
retrogamerdave what were you playing ?
why doesnt this have at least 100K views?
Truly outstanding! They form the perfect duo. It brings to my mind Oistrack and Iborin.
Thank you!!!
12-17-19 WOW WOW WOW!!!!! It exults my being------I have no soul, no such thing as a soul!!!

i could practice playing the piano for 1000 years and never get to this level

Surprise everywhere...oh beethoven :) you nailed it
Great performance there, perfect combo piano/violin
Not exactly a fan of both but I enjoy their performance together very much :)
A truly outstanding performance-thank you

Excellent performance of these two musicians in the interpretation of the Beethoven Kreutzer Sonata 1st movment. Thank you for sharing.
excellent ......Bravo !
His face though, lol. He really gets into it.
By the looks of it, Joshua Bell (with all those actions and expressions he does while playing) is like, telling us a story. oml
Great energy and feel
This performance should dispel any notion that Yuja is afraid of, incapable or not ready to preform solo Beethoven works.
But this isn't a solo piece...
Burntshmallow The difficulty of the piano part is like playing a Beethoven piano sonata.
Yuja replaced the great Lupu in Beethoven's Concerto 4 in 2006 and stole the show. So she can be great in Beethoven. She also replace Argerich 3 times in 2011 in Tchaikovsky's 1st Concerto. 2 great players compliment each other well
Quelle musicalité avec Joshua sur Beethoven; quelle harmonie et quelle complicité!!
Masterpiece! absolutley
THIS IS AMAZING OML I LUV THIS

+Artemisia494 Well said.
Fred MyOpinion YOU had nothing neg. to say regarding my great opinion. Why? Cause yous a fucktard hulhulhull
This is a good performance, they should do the shortened version too
Vi a Joshua Bell tocar en Buenos Aires esta misma pieza hace unos días con Alessio Bax. Increible
If you tolerate/enjoy film music, there's the soundtrack to "Summer in February." I read somewhere she'll record Prokofiev 3/Rach3 within a year. Those could be rumors though, I haven't been able to find the "article" since.
brilliantly played
Monday I heard him playing this piece live in buenos aires :D
so like where can i go to these things, i see vids of them all the time but yeah
Excelencia en los dos al máximo!!!!
or Kogan-Gilels! Did you hear this version? It is absolute marvelous!
all the sniffing sounds lol.
WOW......
I read (or was it saw in a video?) where she said she frequently changes dresses between every few pieces.
shigatsu wa kimi uso :DDD
yeah
like you
Do you have flawless technique
perhaps
I've only been playing piano for two years lel
Kogan/ Gilels set the standard (You Tube),too bad the sound recording was poor those days.but still .....
I don't know what bothers me more. The fact that he is rushing or sometime doesn't play notes muscally. Yuja Wang !
the page turner should help Yuja for her dress :P
I wonder what she is saying at 9:59
You know you practiced till you could see the bones in your fingers when you are barely looking at your Sheet Music, except for reference. (In reference to Mr. Bell)
I have been practicing the Kreutzer so a friend of mine and I can perform it in public.

Просто класс:-):-)
...Y los dioses lo abandonaron a su sordera...
I love this performance but wish Perlman would have been there instead of Bell. Yuja is the star here
davlmt perlman has done a recording of this piece with ashkenazy... Personally prefer Joshua's interpretation
The coughs though oof
I jizzed in my pants
oh my goodness!
A tad too much solemnity at the outset. Nothing wrong with a bit of suspense - but not at the cost of maintaining the flow...I will say that when they get going - they really do create a spine-tingling excitement. If only they didn't gesticulate and accent quite this much.
lol where was the applause, all I heard was coughing
This is just the first movement. It's rude to applaud until the end of the performance
A little problem between 10:05-10:12... LOL, She maybe needs another third hand... or the girl who turns the pages has to be more sharp-witted!
Wonderful playing but I have notice that at important climaxes the pianist covers the violin. I noticed this in live concert. I wish accompanists were more sensitive to this.

They are both great musicians. However I feel there are some imbalances in their music, Joshua is a little soft.
Also when you can finally make jokes about how the Chamber Orchestra class (Advanced Players) are still noobs in comparison.
It's all exciting, but what's with the straps~! Wonderful music, a great violinist, and a superb pianist in a lousy dress.
Your lie in april
HOLAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA XD
Sorcery!
Attacking other commentators in viciously idiotic manner, is this the way a Dane behaves on the TH-cam?
Bell is smaltzy and sloppy while YW is hollow and unseasoned. They communicate well though w/ one another and it's an exciting performance nevertheless.
And what instrument do you play? Never heard of you😄
she is a man here
Heifetz is better.
