Pollution from the mining and use of the sulfuric acid and other acids for procesding would be carried downhill by underground waters to the river Drina which flows to Sava, Danube and finally to the Black Sea. That means not only pollution to one region of Serbia but everyone downstream and around the Black Sea.

Of course it is, Serbia, Bosnia, Macedonia, Montenegro, Kosovo and Albania are never planned to be part of EU, their use is to dump european toxic waste and brutal exploitation of our resources, mines, forest, water etc. Air pollution is due to their garbage that we burn on our land, we are their slaves, they lock us with loans and support to dictators like Vucic. EU with Americans are main factor of instability on Balkans, they organize and maintain political and economic crises and fight between these states so they can exploit us till nothing left, like Africa.

Not 3, 20 times more. Serbia 1.2 milions of tones, Germany between 16 and 40 milions of tones. Also, german lithium is mutch easier to harvest and extract, it is lithium in the water-rivers. Serbian lithium is under ground. But german state doesnt want to demage their land in big scale. Is easier and better Serbia to do that instead of Germany.

Not every country is looking to mine lithium, as you've stated, it is the EU that wants to mine in Serbia. Secondly, protests are being organized all around Serbia (not just Belgrade, the capital). We are protesting against all mining - Rio Tinto, Dundee, Balkan exploration & Mining, etc. The Chinese mining company ZiJin has already caused irreparable damage in the city of Bor. There is a documentary made on this topic - "Mndra mja". Every fourth person in Bor has some form of cancer! They talk about green energy, green mining... there is no green mining!

Why would he listen to the people when it's easier to just take the money and start shitting about how mining with Rio Tinto is a lot profitable for our country? Vucic controls the media from which he had been doing the lobotomy of our people for 12 years already. The brains of our people is washed from all the propaganda he had been putting in minds of our people. I as a serbian know that Vucic is always on the TV, always talking bullshit about how Serbia had never lived better, how the minimum salary is over 600 euros, how we're progressing well towards the EU standards and other bullshit. And now, since he took money from Rio Tinto, he is trying his best to revive that lithium digging project and destroying our country. As if it's not entirely destroyed systematically already, he now wishes to endanger our lives by poisoning our water, food and other necessary living ingredients. The madness of this man must be stopped at all cost!

Serbia is a small country, quite fertile for growing the food needed by its citizens... and that Lithium is located in such an area. mining would destroy all the surrounding nature, pollute the market, water, land... not to mention that the Serbian people and the state have almost no benefit from that mining, only a measly 10 million euros rent... while someone earns a billion euros. also, the Uranium wire passes through there, which someone would get literally for free. let's not even talk about that pollution. therefore, the people are not crazy for not allowing themselves to be poisoned for other people's interests. let them dig somewhere else, in their own country, when they are so smart

@@feisalboudghene228 China is mining and processing copper, from an already existing mines. Since China took over, economic standard of the entire region had exponentially grown, with unqualified workers having more then state average salaries. Also they had significantly improved air quality using most modern filters, and had put their work at stop for 6 months (at their own cost) in order to ensure that the river which was dead for decades gets cleaned again. Lithium mines are entirely different thing, no country that needs it wants to mine it, so why should Serbia that does not need it. The risk of lithium mining goes wrong is too huge and the farmlands there already have greater economic capacity then the lithium mining. On the other hand, city of Bor where Chinese are mining was founded for the sake of supporting copper mining.

People are not protesting against extracting the lithium, it is against RioTinto (a foreign private company) mining the lithium, which is literally allowing Europe to colonize Serbia and destroy their people’s health so that Europe can live in a ‘green world’. And 20 years from now Europe will go to teach Serbians about ecology and how they should import second hand electric cars from Europe. Similar thing happened in many rare ore mines in the balkan countries. The locals benefit absolutely nothing from this, except for extremely underpaid jobs which they are forced to do because the local agriculture becomes toxic, and when they refuse to do - the companies import people from Bangladesh who work for next to nothing.

    Some facts about Serbia:
    1. A tiny country blessed with both fertile land and the abundance of ore of all sorts that have been mined for centuries.
    2. A country that once had a law mandating every household in the countryside have a piece of land which can never be put under mortgage so that the family always has a source of sustenance.
    3. A country that nowadays is a playground of so many economic and political players that corruption runs rampant.
    4. A country with a history of so many corrupt governments that nobody knows how much laundered money sits in how many offshore accounts of who knows how many bribed politicians.
    5. A country whose gold mines were once the envy of European medieval courts, now receives just 3% mining rent of the total amount of what a Chinese company extracts from a gold mine in our eastern region, using cancer-inflicting technology.
    6. A country whose lithium (actually "jadarit") deposits are estimated to be used up in just 60 years' time by this "strategic" exploitation at just 3% mining rent, leaving the soil barren and the waters polluted for thousands of years.
    7. Remember that "piece of land" from point 2.? That is what we call "dedovina" which can be literally translated as "grandfather's land" - you never ever sell it, it is passed on from generation to generation, it is not just your home, but the home of all your ancestors and all the generations that will come after you. Two-thirds of Serbia's male population fought in WW1 and lost their lives defending that piece of land.
    8. While we're at that point 2, another ancient law has to be mentioned - the one that proclaimed that every person who sets foot on Serbian soil automatically ceases to be a slave and becomes free.

Here is something interesting, and I’m sure someone mentioned it already. And this can also go for Kosovo, so all of foreigners could easily understand. President could not have given concessions over that land, because IT IS NOT HIS LAND, it belongs to Marko, Jovan, Ivan, Igor Ilija, Stefan, Đorđe… Like I said also for Kosovo, his voice means little because Kosovo is not his to give or not. Balkan liberation wars, WWI and WWII…. so many ppl died for this land, and eventually we gonna sell it for small change…

We also forget that neighboring countries will suffer as the toxicity of the rivers will spread through our main rivers.
