The world is finally spherical in MSFS 2004: A Century of Flight, albeit nearly perfectly round, causing some issues on the layout. FSX has the earth correctly replicated (slightly wider), but it causes issue on the sky texture over the pole. Map wise, they are all just approximation of real world situation, only the correct town/city boundaries and highways are accurately modelled, so you'll see streets and grey building autogens in New York instead of green grassland and tree autogens. X-Plane 11 has openstreet map data, enabling you to find your own address, although you may not see the correct building over it. Some people uses 3rd party map overlay generators like GoogleMap or other satellite photo ground texture downloader (called Ortho4XP), which technology is now being used to produce many MSFS2020 custom objects. MSFS2020 is probably the first time most casual gamers and mainstream audience or people who were born after 9/11 have heard about Microsoft Flight Simulator and the concept of "entire planet earth being modelled in a game". It uses bing map but with varying degree of resolution. You can find your house there, albeit, if not in the high detailed zones, will have random buildings generated to approximate how your house supposed to look like (usually correct roof colour, but the model or height is totally off).
Microsoft and Asobo Studios have done an amazing job in making this a reality, and the fact that you can play it on VR too? Hats off to both of them, especially Asobo, such a talented Studio
FS9 and FSX also started a very important trend in flightsim history. Study sim quality aircraft addons became a thing! FMS with things like VNAV, SID/STAR/AIRWAY, RNAV approaches and so on became a thing making the very important system part of the simulation.

The X in Microsoft Flight Simulator X was actually just the roman numeral for the game version, because it was the 10th game in the series. At least by some count. I suppose the win 95 version was just a modified 5.1 so it doesn't really count.
Amazing video. Been playing this since Commodore 64, floppy disk and it took a good 6-8 minutes until the game loaded, the default Chicago runway showed up. I found that incredible back then...but today's 2020 is a absolute masterpiece. Cannot wait for the free 40th Anniversary update on Nov 11.

I've completely upgraded my pc to play this going from a i7-9750h and 2060 to a ryzen 7 5800x and 3070 ti, it runs pretty good now but the dx12 update will still help, it's insane that full settings in 1440p with those specs I still get 40-50 fps😂😂

FS2004 and FSX were great, and the AI traffic in both was light years ahead of that in FS2020.
