You know you have it setup right if the crew says beekeeping is relaxing. I'm finding 5 brood in May, I get supercede in early August. 7 brood in May I get swarming all summer. A couple of cells, I don't worry because it's probably a queen replacement. Many cells is swarming. But new queens and old queens act differently, so it's still a crap shoot. I requeened 200 this spring for fun, I really like the results. They came back from pollination with the least problems, similar nest and same honey stores. The older queens were all different. Swarming, dead, didn't draw foundation, no honey, plugged out, those sort of things.
“And work with my dad” ❤❤ My daughter is 11 and she is always helping me and is getting pretty good at it. My son is 9 and he doesn’t like to help work as much😂. I really love take my kids with me to the bee yard. With my full time job this gives me opportunity to spend time with them and teach them a work ethic.
Awesome harvest! I absolutely love working with bees! This year is looking to be SOOO much better for you then last year! Cant wait to see the results!
Would it be worth having swarm traps near your apiaries so at least you have a good chance of catching those that swarm, I realise you have a lot of apiaries but surely they’d pay for themselves catching your escapees
"What can I do about it... not a damn thing." That's exactly what I say to myself every time I see a swarm cell this time of year. It reassures me that you seem to think the same.
Great to see the video's turn positive. Your ability to ride the storms ( literally) over the years is painful for us. It's good to watch as we our extracting ours! Looking forward to EXPO and glad you're coming this year!
Heck yeah I work with my kid 7 days a week he really takes care of me.. as long as you can respect them and their ideas no reason can't build a empire together
I was always wondering how do commercial beekeepers deal with swarming. I wanted to ask the cells you removed is enough to prevent swarming, what happens if the beekeeper miss a cell or too ? Does he inspect all his hives just from underneath or goes through the 10 frames ?
The guy i work for always makes a nuc by robbing atleast half of their brood and adds a new super above the queen excluder. That way they feel their not strong enough to swarm so most of the time they kill the queen cells or use them to requeen. Sometimes they still swarm but commercial guys font have time to find every last cell every time.
Have you considered seeding borage or other prolific bloomers in you bee yards? I planted borage 1ce 3 years ago and it re-seeds itself every year in my garden area. Looking like a nice honey harvest , hope the sunflowers help you out at just the right time. Great to see another generation interested in ag.

Those won't change their mind. I don't know. It's one more job..maybe it would be good to save those old holey boxes to put around with an old frame and some to build. I know it's a pain but watching them on the brunches is too. The black stuff from the separator attracts them pretty good
Why dont you place some hives with comb around to trap the swams. If they slip on you you preserve the queen and bees. Or are the queens clipped? This way if they swarm you loose on honey but at least you end up with an extra colony and you dont loose your expensive queens.
On last honey pull of the season, place a brood box above excluder, all the bees in supers exit through bee escape to populate this added brood box. Strip off and add a caged mated queen.
@@graemediesel2936 oh! Great. In Nepal there are two types of bees APIs cerena(which belongs to Nepal) and APIs melifera belong from out of the country.

As a dad with daughters myself .. this is the sweetest thing! You should be proud!
It's always Awesome when you have the right tools for the jobs. Father, Daughter Team Blessed Days Ian...

You need a frame spacing bar! It is much quicker than trying to do one at a time.
I love to see your whole oparations that loader is very amazing how it works.

Is there a problem with the bees not capping over the honey cells this year?
Do you drive the bees out of the "honey supers" before going to the extraction room??
Thats what the escape boards are for
Just one more.

No, just pinching cells on bottom will not relieve swarming. It only makes a beekeeper feel better

Wow. Is there any update on the formic pro hives that were originally set back? Did they catch up? Glenn
No, they did not catch up. Cost me a box or more of honey

Oh yes but the weather and colony issues have distracted me from my corner planting of flowers these last few years
Where is a good place to buy Borage seed?
@deanmalkewich2366 not sure for farm field amounts but anywhere selling garden seeds normally has borage in smaller quantities.
our forage seed dealer got ahold of a bag, its not cheap

Sweet! What do you think the moisture content is? this year I’m starting to check mine and never seen you make a video about that
18.5% on the nose. not much cappings

What do you mean by bulk bee splits

I would suggest that after university, she gets a job away from Manitoba for a few years to get some experience rather than just starting with you.
Melifera or something else?? Can anyone reply??
Apis Melifera is the only honey bee species in Canada

Of course they will swarm... you're not doing swarm control half way through the flowering... also taking half full boxes. " no idea"
