Amazing that these were just 2lbs of bees and you were able to pull honey off. Must be the drawn frames that you used. Glad the BC bees are doing well. Thx for sharing.
Nice seeing your nuc battery catching a late flow they definitely need that to get right.. holy shit they took off . you must of boosted them good . . built mine month ago hopefully get them big enough for good goldenrod flow.. VSH strains kinda threw wrench in getting them queen right but I'm working thru it. They won't even except cells from different strains. Anything different they remove.. im about 75% latshaw strains they just won't mix with the vsh strains . I'll sell the VSH strains next spring as over wintered nucs..
That looks like it would be good on toast . Im at my yard . Pollen coming in hard and the honey in the 3rd honey super is wet . It seems we are a couple weeks behind you
I wondered about an idea. What if, on the top of the honey towers, you tossed a queen excluder on, a box with some brood comb and a new candy caged queen. Leave it for a week, than do a walk away split of the top.
Running bees is like a bar fight !!! One gives you a shot in the eye then everyone wants to hit you in the face too.😂😂😂😂 My eye is swelling and my chin has a couple of red marks 😂😂😂😮
It’s so great to see your success! I’m curious what happens to the bees when you’ve taken off the honey supers? Do the brood boxes become over crowded, and try to swarm?
Here in Windsor Ontario, the flow out on the country side is still going strong, but in the city theres literally nothing 😞 so ive been feeding patties for a cpl weeks now. I have my 1st two hives and had one out at a farm and they were just bringing in so much but my city colony has basically nothing.
I wonder how long the mites live? If you have 3% with all those bees and as the foragers die do some mites move to younger bees and then the % goes up with less bees ?
@@luellapeters9158 I had all kinds of drawn comb. I made splits off of them to knock them back in May, put honey supers on early with drawn comb and all of them swarmed or I had to pull the queens with brood to make more nucs which I didn't want.
Earlier Carrie needed a new Bee jacket. I'm thinking you need to invest in a new pair of gloves.... unless you didn't add that expense to the budget! :)
Ian, have you spent time thinking about your mite treatment method for this fall yet? I did Oxalic vapor only, spring and fall the past years. I will change it up with formicpro AND a couple of shots of Oxalic this fall. I know your take on formic acid is probably with mixed feelings after your spring experience. I hope it will turn out better for me...fingers crossed.
Hey so your a farmer and I seen cows and a couple Mini’s do you have any other livestock ? Do you have riding horses ? Or you just straight bees and beef 😅
New to beekeeping...can you explain or is there a video where you explain your setup? The 3 (5-frame) boxes on the bottom of the (10-frames) is confusing me...
There are 6 frame nucleus colonies underneath a 10 frame honey super with a queen excluder in between. The Queen excluder stops the queens from going up or harming eachother.
@@aCanadianBeekeepersBlog get ya I will also try that this year I have fields of golden rod now but then that finished up I’m throw some on them do you see a big diff in winter bee population

The sound of them foam blankets being ripped off is one of the most satisfying sounds I’ve heard!
Ian it’s so good to see you guys have such good times!! Yall have worked hard for that!! God Bless!
Great to hear your Winter nests are setting up well. Blessed Days Ian...
Your dregs are equal to more than my entire harvest!
We got some rain and the alfalfa came back to life... blooms everywhere.. woohooo... 🎵honey honey honey🎶money money money🎵🥸
You are lucky to have so many fields dedicated for the bees we don’t have canola in Nova Scotia but we have fields of goldenrod everything is yelllow
gobs and more gobs of bees . looking great

The 2nd roud is looking pretty good so far.

That surge of old field bees will die off in 2 weeks, then it’s a crowded nest with young bees to build out the winter nest

😮They are looking good Ian.. Have you ever made a video on certan b402. I would be interested on how it worked for you.thank you for this video.
Still haven’t figured out how you have so many bees without many swarms!
I have 17 colonies and every one swarmed!
Grrr! Lol
Same. Currently have an uncatchable one today..
Yep, about the same with a much smaller honey harvest than last year.
Drawn comb is the answer

I think it’s the queens genetics that makes them swarm sometimes too.

Jar and Sell 10 barrels retail to your USA friends. Good winter job.
That is a "Big" gob of bees!! They are honey makers.
Awesome 👍😎
Quick question... Are y'all still adding Apis to your pollen patties?

@@GolfSuperTillman yes, all three hives have access and are working on the 10 frame supers together.
If we use 6 frame beehives won't these kill the queens? so will 3 queens work for a colony
what machine are you using to make your patties?
Home made extruder :)
😊😊🎉
Hi Ian, what's the longest amount of time you had your escape boards on the hives? we got rain so we can't get to our spots to take them off.
4-5 days, they clear well but sometimes they figure their way back In
@aCanadianBeekeepersBlog Thank you Ian,for your help.
