Orleans is, like, the only Klemens Franz artwork I _don't_ think is hideous. I actually like it, it's got a bold, stylized cartooniness that leans into the medieval style.
i think it might feel different from others because he uses a lot of actual source material. i've recognized a lot of illustrated manuscript artwork from Orleans.
Trade & Intrigue makes base Orleans so much better. I owned it and all the promo buildings but sold as my wife and i over-played it. I recently picked it back up for cheap and am excited to try the Invasion for it!
Invasion is good, too! i don’t generally like co-op games, but enjoyed Invasion nonetheless. i am currently tricking out my game to be the best copy of Orleans on the planet! Stay tuned for a Bits, Please! episode about that.
Great video as always Ryan! Orleans is one of my 2-3 favourite games. I have not tried Invasion (don't like co-op too), but Trade & Intrigue is superb. It fixes all base game issues and turns Orleans from an 8 to a 10 for me. Also I would strongly suggest to search for the upgrade kit (or fan kit) that includes the meeple workers. Searching wooden meeples in your bag and grab them back from your board easily when activated is so much satisfying and cannot be compared with the cardboard coin workers included in the box.
i’m glad you brought this up! i’ve been eyeing the Fan Kit, but i wasn’t sure if it was compatible with the TMG version of the game...? i just took a closer look at the Trade board last night, and it looks great. The Intrigue board looks super mean though!
@@NightsAroundaTable I did not clarify this: I only play with the trade board. I am sure that I would not like intrigue board just by checking its rules.. Regarding the fan kit, I cannot think of any reason that it would be incompatible. I think only the cloth bags and the wooden houses are a bit different in this version.
Nights Around a Table I got the “geek up bits” from the BGG store and I haven’t looked back. It gives the game the same feel as pulling out the pieces in Azul.

The co-op mode was fun, and the 2-player merchant battle was tense and tight. i like the delivery cards on the map, but the writing is teensy, you you’ll want to use coloured cubes or markers to make certain spots on the map and on their corresponding cards.
Thanks for the video! Have you ever tried out a 5x20 Challenge? Play 20 games 5 times. I find it much more enjoyable than 10x10 since you have more variety.

I have Orleans in my collection and it is one of my favorite games. But I don't have any of the expansions because I am still having fun with the base game. I really want to see your tutorial video to see if I need those.
So far, i've played the co-op and duel modes from Invasion, and i've played with the Order cards and Trade board from Trade & Intrigue. My friend Doc crucially improved the Order cards by placing a coloured cube on each card, and a corresponding one on the map, since the town names are tiny and hard to read. It's such a crucial step, i'm amazed the game doesn't account for it. Duet was fun and tough! We played co-op on easy mode and i found it too easy. i'd like to try it on full difficulty, but i don't generally enjoy co-op games. The Trade board is great.

I don’t have any extra buildings, but I did get the 5th player expansion (mostly for the 5th color option and solo challenge) The solo missions are fun if you have a hard time getting it to the table with other people. I’ve done invasion once, and even though I don’t prefer co-op I did enjoy it quite a bit. The “trade board” is excellent, but it almost seems “too good” once you’ve played it 5 times or so. I’ve had games where there were 2 rounds left and no spaces left. Options can dry up, which is sort of the opposite thing you’d want a game like this to do toward the end. All in all, orleans is a top 10 game for me and I’d enjoy your take on a rules video and review video.

In the big city about two hours away from me, there’s a board game cafe that has this game. Since I don’t have enough table space yet, I’ve only played it there. I really, really love it! They also have the expansion, and my plan was to go there and play that in January. But, unfortunately, I’m in China, so the coronavirus epidemic has put a wrench in that plan. Most non-essential businesses are closed, and even if the BG cafe were open, my apartment complex has established a rule that I won’t be allowed back in if I’m gone two hours, so wahhh. :( In an attempt to end on a more positive note, I never watched unboxing videos before, but I enjoy watching yours. The fart-o-meter and your sense of humor make it enjoyable, Maybe you could include a space-hog-o-meter for us folks in dinky apartments? It could be on a scale up to five space hogs (pigs with astronaut helmets, obviously. ....That’s totally an emoji, right?).
5 years ago we moved out to the suburbs from a 750 sq ft Toronto condo, so i know all about your space issues! And coronavirus is just starting to hit here, too, so i’ll share the extent of your pain shortly :\

It sounds like a way better plan. i honestly don't know if i can handle 10 plays of some of the games on our list.

Right! There's SO much value in the base game that i suspect i've jumped the gun on these.
