  • So I suggested in my 100th review that, were I still here and still reviewing by number 200 that...I'd re-review Ledaig 18. I actually did that because I wasn't overly impressed by it at first pass. Well, 2 years on...has that changed.
Thanks for the support everyone. It's always appreciated.

Tyvm for your reviews. It’s interesting you mention farmyard note, which I found in Laphroaig 10YO CS batch 15.

Boy, do I remember review #100! I had picked Ledaig 18 for your dealer's choice series and I was surprised by your review. You didn't like it, then you thought maybe you did like it, then you weren't sure, then... You just weren't connecting with it. I was surprised because I thought it would be right up your street. You ended on the note of needing to spend more time with it, and you did. I think this is not a "casual dram" that you just sip and love at first-- no love at first sight. But, when you give yourself time with it you find the boldness is beautifully balanced. I'm so glad you re-reviewed this one Jim. I am even more glad we are celebrating your 200th review. I'm there for the long haul, mate. As long as you feel like doing reviews I'll be supporting you. Congratulations on building an exceptional channel with content and a community that I enjoy immensely. Enjoy your summer holidays!

Jim, well done indeed, mucker! 200 reviews is fantastic. 4 years of pluggin' away at 'er. Excellent stuff. I'm enjoying the Ledaig 10 at the mo. Looking forward to continuing my whisky journey alongside you. :)

Hi Jim. 200 review’s, how time flies. Here’s to the next 200. Tried the Ledaig 18 at a whisky festival, good stuff but for the price asking where I am it’s a not buy, too expensive. Enjoyed the ( as always) review, slàinte Jim.

Happy 200th Jim, here's to many more! I had the exact same reaction that you had when I first tried the 18 and actually I tried it side by side with the batch 3 of Spanish sherry wood finish and I wasn't massively impressed with either of them. I have to go back and spend more time with it, it seems like. Cheers!

Many, many warm congratulations Jim on this, your 200th whisk(e)y review; my what an interesting journey it has been.
The Ledaig 18 is regrettably outside my usual budget spend, but nevertheless I have had the pleasure of a bottle of Ledaig Rioja Cask over a year back and I do recognise that the Tobermory distillery do present very well. Perhaps in a milestone birthday I can suggest the 18 as a fitting gift!
Sláinte my friend and here's to the next 200 reviews! 😃🥃.

A great dram and very good value for money 😋. Those farmyard notes are very similar to Benromach in my view.

A man of his word. Love it! Congrats on the 200th video! 🎉 For 300 you can kick a bottle down a well 😂. Poured a wee ledaig to celebrate 😊

Also, brainfart... blend tobermory 12 and ledaig 10. Second pair with rioja cask finish instead 😮

Sounds really fascinating and as if I could like it, too. However, in this price league I'd want a taste before I decide it's worth buying a bottle.
I'll try and remember this the next time a dram of this seems to be available - thanks!

Congratulations on your stamina in churning out 200 reviews ! Have one of these put away to open in the future. Your rotating bottle background in this one has a very aurora borealis appearance. Cheers

Mate, you look younger in review 200 than you did in 100. Either that, or my eyesight, like my lungs, is failing dramatically! Re-reviews and going back to previous drams are always worth it because things do change and you can get a pleasant surprise. Congrats on the 200 and here's to the next 200. Sláinte.

Sounds like prices are creeping up to no-buy level for many. For $120 US where I live, I’m still very much a buyer. It’s one of the best core range 18-year-olds available.

Congrats for your 200th review, Jim, quite a milestone, indeed ! Cheers to next 200....I won't speak again of this whisky before i try it again because I tried it early in my journey & wasn't impressed, problem being there also that it is way too overpriced in France, so maybe next autumn if I see the bottle in a show, I'll give it a try again but if I like it, I'd definitively have to find it at a decent price because I refuse to pay the 169 to 175 € most often asked for it here in France...(Caol Ila 18 yo is sold 124 € here;, for instance).

Yup. I was going to suggest sherried Ardbeg younger simpler alternatives to the LD18. The casks and the spirit come together very similarly there in those.

What I'd want to know is: what do I get out of paying more for the 18 as opposed to the 12? I guess the only way I'll know is to try it

Is that the same bottle of two yrs ago at that low a level? Can’t be very close to what it was then. Peaty scotches in particular. Probably would have been best to decant into small container. That said glad you re-reviewed this. I’m not sure how the “community” really feels about this one. It seems it attracts folk more for the price than anything else. Most if not all smoky 18s are much more expensive. But is it as good as the 18 year Talisker, Caol Illa, Laphroaig, Bowmore etc?
