17 years as an Expat I have unfortunately known more than a few Expats who have had similar horror stories. Resort's, multiple condos, house's, businesses and ultimately the relationship vaporized. Often the woman pisses away fortune's from gambling and / or squandering without a care. One individual managed a Trifecta. "You can't make this stuff up!" As a side note this also happens frequently with Thai men who work overseas. They come back and it's all gone. 🙏

One thing I learned the hard way. In the beginning, if the aerobics are not good, don't count on it getting better. I had a Japanese wife who had issues and acted like it was a chore. She scheduled all aerobics, and we never had any spontaneous aerobics. She would never want to discuss the issue. This was the reason it all fell apart. I owned a bar in Daytona Beach, Florida. I found aerobics elsewhere with ease. It's ashamed because I truly cared. But I divorced her against her will.

Thanks to the subscriber who shared this story and don't listen to all the cynical keyboard warriors who think they 'know it all about Thai women'. It is actually very difficult to pick up on a personality-disordered woman, especially if they are from a different culture and especially when you are consumed in the madness called 'love'. Buddhist compassion and loving-kindness meditation can easily be confused with aspects of 'love', and can leave one overly trusting and somewhat naive.
The Buddha was correct in his description of the 'house-holder life' - if you can handle living alone, and many men can't, but if you can... then it makes life a lot easier.
Rule#1... Smiling faces sometimes they don't tell the truth
Rule#2... Trust no one.
Rule#3... They can all turn against you.
Rule#4... The farangi never wins.

I will never forget Toby (England) from Hua Hin, back around 2001. He had a bar in Soi Bintabath on the first corner. Married to a thai woman. I liked the bar, took a girl and travelled around southern Thailand with her. No problem. Next year I came back and his bar was gone. I talked to a ladyboy that told me that he was killed by his wifes family. And not only killed, but chopped into little pieces, burried in the ground around the house that he had bought and paid for! The police found out and his widow (wife!) got 25 years in jail, and more than a few cousins was sentenced as well. Why they did it? They felt entiteled. He was not helping out the extended family enough, they thought. Hard to believe how they truly think, these thais.... Truly amazing! I can never forget Toby. Last time I saw him, he was a jolly fellow, late 30'ies, super friendly. Everybody liked him. Except his wife's lazy cousins.
Not surprising, sadly. I'm not familiar with this case, but I have read about others in Thailand (and the Philippines, etc.).
Edit: I did some googling, and I _do_ remember this case. I didn't remember the name (Toby Charnaud) , but yeah this was a horrible one. Poor guy. I wouldn't do to my worst enemy what his wife had done to him.
It is not just Thais who do this shit - it is entitled people who believe the world owes them something and are too lazy to get of their butts and make their own money the old fashioned way through blood, sweet and tears. But they are happy to get off their lazy butts to rob, cheat and kill.

I've lived in Germany. People are reserved, honest, polite and very logical. So there you have it and why I feel there is a problem to start with. At least a Brit is more aggressive and chaotic, so can probably defend themselves more effectively. But that is a gross generalisation.

I love that and I think that's a very good description of us Brits. Only yesterday yet another Indian tried to start an argument with me in Pattaya (just visiting and I just picked up a menu to read and an Indian started ordering me to put the menu down, he was quickly met with aggression) and he soon backed down as we can go from calm to raging in a split second. My Thai g/f is used to it now and it's taken here a while to get used to English people but I always explain it like this. Generally, we are similar to Thai, trouble avoidant, but if you start a problem with a Brit, we can become aggressive in an instant and we don't back down easily. Maybe we appear chaotic to others but in our minds we are very normal. I did apologise in my best Thai to all the staff in the restaurant but they all agreed with me.

They simply do not understand that when I am standing and looking at a menu they need to give me some time to do it in private and not try to peak over my shoulder breathing in my ear. I would do the same courtesy to them, just would wait a little until they are done with the menu and it is my turn to check the selection of dishes.
I am not a racist and I know a plenty of guys from India and Asia with proper manners who fully understand the importance of privacy and the private space.

I got company, car, Jetskis, boat, condo in Thailand - in my name - no Thai chick can cheat you if you are in the driving seat. And you must be. Always. Scooters etc same. Condo in your name. Land in your company. Unfortunately you did it all wrong. With land you have to own a Thai company in order to register the land. Let the company own the land, lease it 30 years USUFRUCT in your name. You as a private person can lend money to the company and get a mortgage stamped in the charnod at Landoffice.

The woman I met when travelling in suphanburi 8 years ago is the sweetest person I could ever have met,she was as poor as a door mouse but humble what she has now is far removed from what she had then in terms of a home and security for her life and she is still the same way now as she was then taoist humble hahaha i call her cheap charlie because she is so used to having nothing she still shops the same way,her two kids are brought up with respect nothing gets wasted and she says she's happy because she has a good man nothing about material stuff.

All the warning signs were there. If she's not good in the bedroom it means she doesn't like him. Total trust in a woman with his money, especially in a foreign country is just plain foolishness. I am a Thai woman who does not like lies and deception. And not all Thai women have the same personality. And I'm not like them. And I have never made my boyfriend think about how I will be like some Thai women who scam their boyfriends out of money. But I definitely don't do that. I am a person who is honest with myself and the people I love. I've never had a secret from my boyfriend. I told him everything about my situation. In the future, I don't know if we will still be together until that day, no one knows. But I know that I am doing good and doing everything right every day for the two of us.

@@ferney2936 it doesn't make sense. Marital assets are split 50/50 even in Thailand. Maybe the courts refuse to enforce the law in the case of foreigners but that's not what the law itself says. The guy may not be telling the entire truth also for some reaosn.

Additionally, I was speaking to a filipino granddad the other day of why living in Hawaii i never married in the USA. He wanted to intro me to a granddaughter. I told him of thai women he tilt his head eyes lit up and asked me 'whats the difference'. I replied demonoid life patterns and behaviors as common. He then stared deeply said 'Oh' and how wise I am to have never married either since same same in all ways.

It could be a mix of a nice woman with toxic ties to her stupid family members... My Missis has a great job and pulls in Expat money from a USA company working remote. My missis' mother was just in a scooter accident 2 days ago up north. I saw the photos, she is in hospital - my missis luckily happened to be up there at the time to take care of her. The other party immediately demanded money. Missis' mother had no license, no helmet and was driving my wife's scooter. Dumb Dumb Dumb. 18 months ago, her younger brother who works for a major automotive company in chonburi crashed his truck on a weekday at 7 am after a night shift drunk and hit someone else. My missis drained her savings to get him out of trouble. I visited him in hospital - it was legit , but no money from me in both cases. That last one was about 1 million baht.
At some point the responsible Thais have to distance themselves from their idiot family members. Easier said than done of course.

Long story here. And indeed the world has terrible people. As for narcissism, I am quite literate in the topic, but .....this man allowed all this chaos. The fact he was off looking for salvation in a monastery, without being fully committed to that (obvious by his actions afterwards, such as fu***** a stranger he didn't even like on a 2 nd meeting) demonstrates this person needs to do a great deal of work to work on his own confidence and self esteem . He absolutely was willing to allow this chaos. The sooner he understands that, the sooner he won't be hoodwinked again. All the blaming and not self reflection doesn't help. The thought processes he made were equal to a teen boy. Message here ... Work on yourself .

The 'Thai smile' is often taken completely wrongly by foreigners! It is totally misunderstood! A smile here has a completely different signal or body language from that in the West! In Thailand it is usually a sign of 'nervousness' and a 'negative evaluation' on meeting a foreigner. It's also an excuse for 'not understanding' what the foreigner wants! Also a sign that means 'never mind I think I know what you want' --but really am not sure! A smile disguises a 'loss of face'. Do not get taken in by the Thai smile! -If you do you'll end up reading these posts on Dan's forum!
A smile in many parts of Asia is like an animal's fear grimace. It represents every emotion under the sun including deceit and reaction to perceived mental weakness. Mirth (unless it is at your expense) and friendliness has nothing to do with it.
