  • The DSP&P/C&S Railway reached the rich mining district of Leadville from Denver by several mountain passes, the most spectacular of which was Boreas Pass. This video shows the remains and restorations of the facilities at the 11,493 foot crest of that mountain pass in 2018.
My apologies for not filming the interior of the section house. Time constraints kept us on the move.

I have the books "Mineral Belt" by Digerness. Such good photos and stories of this old narrow gauge railroad. My family is four or five generations in Colorado, but I'm just now learning about this wonderful history that ended before I was born. Makes me sad that it's gone. But, that was business. I'm glad some people are trying to preserve and restore some of it. Other folks love this, too. Thanks for this posting!

I'm glad you liked it. I have Digerness' books too-great series! I think it's amazing that you have such a long family history in Colorado. Did any of them work for a railroad?

So I am guessing that the box car will be at the Boreas Pass RR Days in August, a much better place suited for it. Thank you for your continued quality educational videos, we need to preserve the past so we will know our history.

It has become quite a popular spot it seems. Now I can only speak for the two times I've been on the pass, but both times had a good amount of traffic.

Yes, it was moved to Como to join an incredible restoration movement there. The boxcar became the first railcar to travel all the way over Boreas Pass since 1938! (That is counting its move from Breckenridge to the Summit when it was put on display there, and the move recently from the summit to Como).

      @@searchingforthecsnarrowgau8853 I heard about that
btw C&S was not fully merged into BN until 1980
So any books that say 1970 is when BN merged with C&S that is a darned LIE!
BN locos still had C&S on them!
