When the meteorite impacted, it will get disinterested into many pieces. That's the reason why u won't get a intact rock. Yes, we can find small fragment of rocks scattered 100s of kilometre away.
Asteroid jo aake takrata hai, it's called an impactor. Usually takrane se pehle ka speed is about 25 km/sec se leke 30km/sec. Itne speed se takrane k chalte impactor k parkhachhe uud jaate hain, bas chote fragments (tukde) milenge depending on the composition (kis cheez ka bana hua hai) of the impactor. If it's an iron or metallic meteorite, tab chances Hain k tukde mil jaye.

No doubt its beautiful today, but the devastation it would have caused when it hit is unimaginable. Can you imagine a 30-40 meter object travelling at a speed of 30 km/second? The sheer velocity will crush the atmosphere between the meteor and earth causing an explosion that can devastate cities in a matter of seconds. Read about Tunguska event if anyone is interested.
