This is a great vid of how this very complicated planter works. Always wondered how. Might be worth an update for those who signed on in later years. Take care and be safe.
Watching this in 2022. Wow how much your videos and the different equipment y'all have. Greetings from rice & sugar cane farming country in South Louisiana
Mind reader. Was hoping in the last video that you’d explain how the planter works. Very interesting. Boy had farming come a long way. Could you imagine doing everything by hand? Glad I found your channel.
Very educational video. Good to actually see how each part works. Seems complicated, but you explained it very well. Keep up the good work. New subscriber.
Thank you for your videos. It means a lot and you explain well. It's something different than just watching tractors In the field like most youtube videos. Keep um coming!
I'm a "city boy" but after watch your videos I'm starting to think I could be a farmer too lol. Great job, Thanks for taking the time to show many of us how Farms work :)
Thank you so much to explain how that works I saw somebody else using a vacuum they said to plant with and I didn't quite figure out what the hell is going on but you explained it perfectly thank you so much for taking the time out to do so enjoy your Channel. I have never noticed any other planter has wheels I see that yours runs on tracks is that correct that what I saw. And I'm guessing that is just for flotation order those tracks driving any other kind of gear or function in the planter or is it strictly for flotation?
Valdemir Ansino Gallas Sorry I'm late on the response. We apply most of our fertilizer in the fall before the ground freezes. Many farmers around here do it in the spring also. Both are common.
That's extremely dependent on weather in our area. If the forecast makes it look like we have plenty of time to get things planted we will work from roughly 7 AM until about 9 at night this time of year. If it's a late spring because it doesn't stop raining, we will go much longer hours. If rain is coming tomorrow and we are close to finishing we will keep going until we're either done or it rains! Every day is different.
I want one for Christmas, but I’ll need no till plates cuz I believe you can lower costs with no till cover cropping systems. I’m not a farmer just a wannabe and I wanna know how the hell you get started and how many years until I can have this sexy thing.
Just found your channel and I think its freaking awesome, I've always lived in the "country" a little farm town called Kelseyville. And I've never ever had a chance to learn anything about these farming machines. But for some reason deep inside I feel terrible while you're explaining all these videos because I feel like its wasting time.
Explaining was the whole reason he started this channel. It sure wasn't started to save time on the farm, haha. Zach's vision was to bring greater unity and understanding between the farming community and the general public. I think it's a great goal, and much needed. I also think he does a great job of it. Plus it's just good fun to watch. Thankfully his channel has grown to the point where the money he makes should offset the time he loses making the videos. I think by now it more than compensates, especially if you count all the multiple streams of income and the special deals that his brand and online presence has enabled. I'm sure it's somewhat difficult to quantify, but again his goal was education and outreach, not so much to make it "worth" the time financially.
Yes we grew some in the past (long before I was running the planter) and never found enough of a yield gain to justify the extra equipment. Less than half of the guys in our area plant beans in 15 inch rows. A few are on 22" for both corn and beans.
We are really liking them so far. They don't sink in at all like the tires did and they definitely don't ridge up when turning. We had some wheel bolts come loose on them but after cleaning them and using good loc-tite we haven't had any issues now for several hundred acres.
No. 80-90% of the guys in our area do but we didn't see a consistent return from it so we quit using it several years ago. Sometimes we could visually see the color difference in the plants when we ran side-by-side trials but it rarely translated into a yield difference that would pay for itself.

I Farm in Michigan and I just wanted to say thank you for doing a good job of showing what we do
Thanks Dave!
I'm a 3rd generation farmer in Michigan and also would like to say thanks for showing what really goes on
Thanks for your explanation of the planter - much appreciated
Very informative video.. It's actually a much more complex process than I initially thought. Thanks for stopping your tractor to show us how it works.

Start with 3 million dollars, better to have 10 million.
Finally it all makes sense. Always wondered about this.
It's fascinating to see how farming machinery functions. Thanks Zack!
I was wondering. Thanks. So kind of like pulling a large discer for tractor load.
Thank you!
So fascinating! Love your channel, I'm binge watching it at the moment! :)
Gives me a great image! Now I know the basics of how a planter works!

How you enjoying those new tracks on the planter? You showed us when knew but nothing yet about them.

buffalostate1 Thanks!

very helpful . thank you
In the plant in southern Brazil. Our planters are combined fertilizer / seed. At what time you guys apply the fertilizer.?
Valdemir Ansino Gallas Sorry I'm late on the response. We apply most of our fertilizer in the fall before the ground freezes. Many farmers around here do it in the spring also. Both are common.
I suppose depending on how good the metal is cutting the trench, a fat rock could be bad. I'd be curious what your farm does to mitigate rocks.
great videos. what time in the morning do most farmers start planting and for how long in one day?
That's extremely dependent on weather in our area. If the forecast makes it look like we have plenty of time to get things planted we will work from roughly 7 AM until about 9 at night this time of year. If it's a late spring because it doesn't stop raining, we will go much longer hours. If rain is coming tomorrow and we are close to finishing we will keep going until we're either done or it rains! Every day is different.
So do different seeds take different 'seed wheels'? Some seeds are small, some are bigger.
Why no row cleaners? Are you trying to do the what IH guys do and run just the openers?
In the past we had more problems with row cleaners than we think they were worth. We haven't run them for several years.
Awesome. I know guys our here are switching to smaller size cleaners to decrease planter weight.
I want one for Christmas, but I’ll need no till plates cuz I believe you can lower costs with no till cover cropping systems. I’m not a farmer just a wannabe and I wanna know how the hell you get started and how many years until I can have this sexy thing.
good machinery

Very informational cool!
Is it all hydraulically operated or is the fan operated by pto?
good job on explaining, love it
ReolSPro Thank you!
How mutch glisophate do you spay per acre?
Awesome! Are the tracks just to keep compaction to a minimum?
Yep!
so where does the power for the fans come from? A PTO alternator?
From what I saw, they all run off of hydraulics
Do you still use the marker blades?
might sounds like a stupid question but what it powering the fans?
How many acres do you guys run?
Nathan Gano 2,500
Can you make a plowing video
What kind of planter!
How much is this machine?
What model
Have you looked into 15" row beans?
Yes we grew some in the past (long before I was running the planter) and never found enough of a yield gain to justify the extra equipment. Less than half of the guys in our area plant beans in 15 inch rows. A few are on 22" for both corn and beans.
What model 8r is that on the planter
Cool
What's the Arms on the side of the machine for
That's what I want to know also. I have been looking all over for the answer.
Me to
Never knew.
are racing again this year u should make videos on your car
Yep! We ran the first race with the mod last night. For now I'm going to stick to the farming but maybe I will throw in some racing later this summer.
How many price corn planter machine in India
How do you guys like the tracks on the planter?
We are really liking them so far. They don't sink in at all like the tires did and they definitely don't ridge up when turning. We had some wheel bolts come loose on them but after cleaning them and using good loc-tite we haven't had any issues now for several hundred acres.
Are the tracks a factory option or aftermarket option?
They are aftermarket but available through the JD dealers
+MN Millennial Farmer you know the brand by chance. Looking for something similar for our case ih.
+Agricon100 they are made by Soucy
so you don't run any liquid for corn?
No. 80-90% of the guys in our area do but we didn't see a consistent return from it so we quit using it several years ago. Sometimes we could visually see the color difference in the plants when we ran side-by-side trials but it rarely translated into a yield difference that would pay for itself.
im gen z i wish i was a farmer out in the middleanowhere lol
