    AWESOME! I wanted a more detailed overview of your system. I do have several questions for you when you have time to answer. (1) What is your total capacity? (2) Do your bins have stirrers and/or powersweeps? (3) Do you empty your bins out every year and clean them out? (4) Do you do anything with all the corn residue (mostly the red chaff)?
    Be safe. Good luck. Prayers to all farmers!

    • @MillennialFarmer
      @MillennialFarmer  8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      thr8061 Our total storage right now is around 250,000 bushels (some of that is beans right now). None of our bins have stirrers but they all have powers weeps in them. Most of our bins usually get emptied every year, but often times we do have some carryover bushels. we do shovel and sweep the bottoms clean whenever we empty them. We also move our carryover grains from one bin to another just to ensure the quality of it (grain sitting tight for too long has more tendency to start spoiling). Usually the red chaffe gets shoveled into a loader bucket and spread back into the fields. Sometimes someone will use the corn fines for feeding (hobby pigs, chickens, etc.)

    I was just watching through your videos and noticed you get over-fillage on your silos, have you ever thought about putting in a video camera in each bin connected to a monitor with wifi in your control booth.

    You were sent back. Do you have any kind of pager to tell you in field that it has shut down? Also thinking back many years ago when a propane pipe had issue. And Farmington,il terminal was hauling by take truck all the way to keep you supply one fall. Trucks setting to load several hours. Was a wet year.

    Hey Zach, pipefitter by trade but grew up on a small farm down by St James, MN. Do you have frequency drives on your plenum fans? I know a lot of the hvac world is going to that and saving big dollars by utilizing the variable speed for the larger motors. Let me know I’m interested in a more in depth look at how the controls work on your setup. Keep the videos comin!

    • @MillennialFarmer
      @MillennialFarmer  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Joel Ostmo grain storage has been one of our best returns on investment so we benefit quite a bit from it. We also haul most of our corn about 40 miles away, so we need the trucks to do that efficiently.

  • @WaltzingAustralia

    This probably won't mean as much to anyone else, but I was pleased to see the name Sukup on the drier, simply because in my book on the history of corn, Midwest Maize, I wrote about Eugene Sukup and the invention of the processing system. So kind of like seeing an old friend for me. (And always enjoy your presentations on farming technology.)

    • @MillennialFarmer
      @MillennialFarmer  8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Noel Hohberger We have plugged them a few times, always when we're trying to feed the corn through too fast. We have also blown the pipe collars apart twice but since we started supporting the pipes better we haven't had that issue for a few years.

    Is your wet corn bin bottom cone or flat and need to powersweep every few days ? Also where did you get them power hopper bottom gate openers and the price of them ? I'm getting lazy.. lol

    • @MillennialFarmer
      @MillennialFarmer  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      JGM It's a flat bottom. We empty it completely every week-10 days if the corn is really wet. at 22% it stays on the bottom for a while with no problems. The electric hopper bottoms are an add on kit but I forget how much they cost...

    • @MillennialFarmer
      @MillennialFarmer  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      JGM There are several after market companies that make kits for them. A local trailer dealer should be able to help you out.

    How do yu like the air system? I am in Owatonna MN and we run a wet and dry leg with drop tubes to all the bins. I was told the air system is slower but your dryer is large as mine and it must flow enough to keep up with the dryer. Thanks just saw your vids yesterday and I really enjoy them.

    • @MillennialFarmer
      @MillennialFarmer  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Allen Yule We love it. When we have dry corn we do wish it was faster though. It's the 6" system also. You probably typically have drier corn than we do so you may want to check into the speed of it. It goes faster when we're blowing into the bins that are closer to the motor.

    • @ugly1354
      @ugly1354 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I am picking corn generally 18-20% and we deffinetly dry ours to the 15% mark. Are you on 3 phase power? We are on single phase and have a phase converter to get three phase. It is the kink in our setup.
