  • In this video I take a deep dive into the world of royalty free music libraries and offer my take on which I feel are the best suited for music producers at a beginner level, and others which are better suited to music producers with more experience. Also I offer my experiences with the ones that I work with and earn money with and others which I hope to work with in the near future.

    Hi Steven, dropping a comment to say hi and let you know that I appreciate your videos and want to thank you for the information you share. I have been working with sound design/music production (also Vancouver Film School - sound design for visual media graduate). I produce ambient, soothing, meditative music as a ghost producer on fiverr for over 6 years, been researching about license libraries for couple of years now and your videos helped me narrow it down. So, thanks again!

    I was asked by one of the libraries for screen shots of my DAWs. I sent them 5 of them, because I use all of them to produce music. I also was asked where online I had music. I shared my Spotify link where I have music. This opened up the door to this great opportunity to be accepted.

    Hey Steve,
    Take a look at Beathunterz and Soundvase,
    It's a new library for ghost producer and it is exclusive, just launched last year I think.
    -I like what they did to the website, it's beautifully made.
    -I got 3 of my music accepted there,
    But I don't think i will get sales.
    -They set the price high of each song because it's exclusive and for one buyer only. Meaning to say I can only post my track there.
    -they focus on the idea of your sound and quality.

    Cheers Steve, this is really helpful. People often say that it's easier to get tracks on P5 than AJ, but I weirdly found the opposite - P5 were rejecting most of the tracks that made it onto AJ! Might just be the kind of tracks I'm submitting. Real shame in general about AJ's doors closing though - I know their review waiting times were becoming crazy. I'd also be keen to get onto Motion Array but I'm waiting until I have a higher volume of quality output, or a portfolio of some kind that they can check out - it's probably worth waiting on that one.

    Great video Steve! I have one question regarding sending music in order to be accepted as a contributor in platforms like Motion Array where the quality is kind of crucial for them. Do you think there are more chances to be accepted if I send music in just one genre or as far the quality is good it doesn't really matter? Is it better to send 5 tracks in the same genre, let's say acoustic, or try to show that I can compose music in a different genre and send 1 acoustic track, 1 corporate, 1 rock..? Thanks for your videos, they are really helpful!

    • @Steven_Beddall
      @Steven_Beddall  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Davide! This is a tough question to answer as I think the strategy depends on the library and I don't want to speak for Motion Array, but I think above anything else your application should just include your absolute best work, whether it showcases a broad range of genres or not. With Motion Array I sent them a submission package with different types of music, but if I were pitching to exclusive libraries I would be sending them an 'album' so to speak. I think the folks at Motion Array appreciate that their authors write in a variety of styles, but again if your hip hop tracks (for example) are your strongest material, just send them that.

    • @MakeMusicIncome
      @MakeMusicIncome 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      In my experience they like many things even vocals, solo piano, and genres you wouldn’t expect like jazz or gospel. But the quality and musicianship is critical. Your recordings better be strong especially for those first 5 to get in.

    Great breakdown.
    Question 1: does Artlist allow you to register with a PRO so you get performing rights royalties? (I know ES does not)
    Question 2: so you just have 1 track for each library, you cannot have the same track on different libraries right?
    Edit: Question 3: do you register your music with a PRO or let the library register it for you?

    • @Steven_Beddall

      Artlist allows for PRO registration 👍 I register all tracks myself, unless they are buyouts, in which case I'm not the publisher.
