- It's more tool-assisted playthrough, than tool-assisted speedrun because there are lots of stages (8-20) which I could pass faster and grab some bonuses only once a game. It was made in just a few days when I had a trip with no internet.

A: It's a tool-assisted movie. I used savestates and slow motion to make it. At the beginning of each level, I made the savestate, destroyed all the walls on the level, loaded the savestate and then destroyed only those walls which hide power-ups and the door. And yeah, it's random, but locations of power-ups and the door are fixed after a level is rendered.
P.S: Back in the day when I recorded that video, I had to sacrifice some quality because the rendering was too long. Today I regret it. - เกม

How the hell he keeps guessing the exit accurately????
It's tool-assisted speedrun. Wikipedia even has a page dedicated to it. At the beginning of each level, I did a savestate, destroyed the whole level to see where the exit and all the items are, loaded that savestate and then blowed only those walls I wanted.
As the whole walkthrough is recorded in an emulator movie, when you play it, it shows everything you've done. Since all those testing, failing and slow sequences are overwritten by new sequences I did after loading savestates throughout the walkthrough, the final movie looks like a perfect speedrun where I already know where the exit is and don't do any mistakes.

I don't know why it took so long for me to find this, but... whoever you are, thank you. This is wonderful. This is the kind of game that you'll never see on TASVideos. They're all about optimization there, and there's so much randomness (as in everything) that this is just about impossible to optimize. I've had _so_ much frustration with this game, and it's gratifying to seen it literally blown apart. Thank you.
One of the things this really illustrates, as was the case with many arcade-style games, was that if you wanted to have any realistic chance of reaching the end, you _could not_ die *at all.* Once you lost those powerups, that was _it._ That's why I never could truly enjoy these games; no matter how powerful I got, doom was never more than a few inches away. That's what makes these kind of videos so great. Did I already mention that? 😊
Oh, and I've always read it is "Tool Assisted Smashfest", or "Tool Assisted Slaughter" as the case may be. I suppose "'Splosion" works here.
Nowadays, tasvideos is a little more lenient, but yeah, this is a kind of game that you gotta beat several times in order to get an optimal route.
See, the thing I've noticed about TASVideos is that, even now, they're _really_ merciless about optimization. Even if it's the very first submission, they won't tolerate _any_ gaps. I've seen some very good submissions rejected for this reason... Shinobi was a particularly heartbreaking example. So regarding a game that's 100% random, who's going to spend possibly _years_ on it and risk getting shot down with "you didn't do this this and this, please make a little effort you lazy bum"? Heck with it. As long as I get to see a game get crushed, that's danged well good enough for me.

i remember there is a bug or something that when you explode a bomb on yourself and keep spamming the bomb button you keep exploding and can move. if you stop spamming the buttom you will die. Later in the game theyy give you a powerup like that

That's super bomberman 2. Not this one.
Yes, there's two powerups in this game, the Flame pass and the Mystery Item. Both make you invulnerable to bombs. I remember that bug too, you must keep spamming bombs but after a short time you'll die anyway.

SpiralPegasus They are randomly placed. This is tool assisted speedrun, so the player can use savestate and before starts to speedrun, player can look the places of power ups and doors, then starts.

watching this playthrough, how can your timing be so perfect? well, i suppose the game system is basic setup where everyone moves around the same and there are no rogue like elements in it, but STILL, jeez the TIMING IS PERFECT!!!!!
This is a TAS: tool-assisted Speedrun. Basically a recording of the most optimal input over countless attempts to make a "perfect" run of the game.

Graphically, for the time it was actually good. Graphics will never be a deciding factor on if a game is good or not but that’s just a personal opinion. Everything is what they should be and it’s not hard to figure out what everything is. For the NES, it did just fine for what it was expected to be. Granted, it was never going to match Arcade graphics because of the limitations of the system.

And it was made by a 14-years-old kid. I have never considered it wizardry. I wasn't even doing much planning, with the exception of locating items and exits behind the scenes.

What I love about this version of the game is the enemy AI, it's so wacky that some of them get stuck despite there are openings. The enemies are also unique in a way. Too bad they nerfed the last enemy type in Bomberman II hard by having random movement, is solid, and slower. The tiger one was rebalanced to have its AI go at full speed when it's on line of sight, and slightly slower and have random movement if not.
Wow I remember when I used to play this on weekends, when I was a kid. I never could end this crap game. I liked it though ✌🏿️🙇🏿
When I was a child, I had a broken Famicom. I couldn't even pass the 1st level, but nobody could kill me! At the beginning of a level my Bomberman was planting bombs all the time and I couldn't move him. As a result, he stant in the corner with unlimited explodes.

I never made it past Stage 18 because I didn't know how to approach that bear head at the end, and always ended against those purple and green blinking coins that appear if you run out of time (here they blink just purple and that creamy orange as usual monsters). I've even beaten them all once (not in that stage, though), but they are quite game over enemies. Also, in my version of the game you died from your own bombs if you didn't evade the blast wave, and bumping into monsters even from behind also got you killed.
Uhh, that is how the game works. You only survive the blast of your own bombs, if you pick-up an upgrade for it on stage 30. And you always get killed when you bump into enemies.

Ive recently got addicted again and I've only been able too reach level 19 the I get too excited and place 3 bombs in wrong spots for getting my 3 blast power ups and kill my self 😂😂.
I used to play this with my father when i was 5 years old....today i am 23 years old and he is no more....watching this game reminds me so much about him....I hope he ll be happy in his next life

Stay on the game home screen for enough time to see the computer play. once computer finishes the game then the home screen appears again and now you can start to play with a lot of power from the 1st stage itself

This means that Lode Runner is the sequel to Bomberman, not Bomberman II, where a fake Bomberman robs a bank and frames Bomberman for the crime

I seem to recall entering a Game Genie code as a kid and starting on level 57, are there unused levels, or is there just an algorythem that generates levels?
All the levels are pre-build. However, some of them might be not shown in the game. I think it's possible to enter them with the help of a hex editor, or, at least, check what will happen if we edit a level number address.
Awe aside, how can you know exactly where the doors at and timing, idk how the tool can do the timing multikill too lol

Technically, I don't know either. Probably, that monster that was blown by the bomb somehow absorbed the remaining kill zone, but, yeah, the door should be burst.

I played each level twice. On the first try, I destroyed all the walls and memorized all the placements. On the second try, I destroyed only those walls which hide items and the door.

Trial and error. It's not a typical walkthrough. It uses emulator tools a lot. At the beginning of each stage, I used a savestate, destroyed all the blocks on the level, marked all the placements, loaded that savestate and destroyed only those blocks that store something behind them.

Strange, the enemy Pontan made its debut much later than expected, when I tried to beat this game, Pontan usually appears as a normal enemy from around lv 41 or earlier, but this version Pontan didn't come until lv 48.
Is there any mechanic behind the game play?
I don't remember which ROM exactly I was using when I made this video. It's not excluded that I used not a good dump (a rom without [!] sign in the end). Romnations site is long gone, so we don't know how many different dumps of Bomberman exist.
It can also be a regional difference. TCRF doesn't say anything about US version being easier than JP version regarding this enemy.

You mean, how would I help you if I were watching your live play? With basic tips only. I don't know which bricks hide items or doors. I made a savestate at the beginning of each level and played each level twice. What you see on the video is my fluent play where I already know which bricks it makes sense to destroy.
