    Just got one today. Plate on the case says 266se but the starter says XP. ? I think 1980 from the serial number. Beast to pull over and start. Dealer said it has 180 psi compression ( I believe it). Starts and runs well. Since you talk about these often you’re the first person I went to to find more information about it. Thanks for the video, good stuff.

    I own several 200 series saws and they get used pretty hard, the only issue I have had is on my 272XP I kept ripping my recoil rope. I have since installed a rope from a Stihl MS460 and zero problems since.

  • @HemiOrange

    Thats a good truck! The 6.5 get overlooked due to the Dirtymax but they definitely hold they're own. My dad had a 98 in a 1/2 ton extended cab reg box that he took up to 800,000km +. All he did was the waterpump, batteries and alternator. I honestly don't know why he got rid of it because the 04 Dirtymax 3/4 ton he traded in on had nothing but problems.

    THOSE SAWS HAVE A LOT OF COMPRESSION, HARD FOR OLDTIMERS TO START

    • @tracykingston9668
      @tracykingston9668 ปีที่แล้ว

      These saws really should have a compression release from the factory. Sheese, now they are putting compression releases on much smaller cu. in. saws. The aftermarket cylinders usually have compression releases. You could maybe retrofit a release if your cylinder has a boss that could be drilled and tapped. This guy that made the video may know about that. The aftermarket cylinders are really inexpensive BTW.

    I acquired a 1983 266, and the bar/ chain oiler is providing to much oil. Is there an adjustment, or do I have a bigger problem. In the video at 20:20, you installed a shim between the saw and clutch cover. The reason I ask is mine does not have a shim. I ordered a new OEM on off switch, and it will not shut saw off, so for now I choke it to shut down. Love your channel. Thanks.

  • @ktmMX125
    @ktmMX125 ปีที่แล้ว

    I’m a little late to this video but I was just given a 266xp and got it running and it absolutely rips through logs I can go full throttle and really push on it with no bog whatsoever. Only downside is it’s very hard to get started and idk if maybe there’s something I can do to make it easier or if I’m just spoiled since my newer husky has a decomp valve and starts 1st or second pull.

  • @thecornishwildcamper
    @thecornishwildcamper 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Another great video. I'm rebuilding a husqvarna 240 do you use gasket/ sealant around the carb? Exhaust side do you use a heat proof sealant/gasket.

    • @tinmanssaws
      @tinmanssaws  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      On saws with an intake boot I dont use sealant.
      On the exhaust I just use a new gasket. If the gasket is not available I'll use red rtv to seal up the exhaust..

    I have one of these. Purchased it new. It sat for a few years and now it is hard to pull the crank. I pulled the cylinder and cleaned up the carbon (there wasn't much to clean). Compression is 160 psi. I clean the recoil and replace the pulley and rope. It is still very hard to pull the starter. Pulls easy with plug out. With plug in I can turn flywheel rather easily with my fingers. What should I try next? Is this a common problem?

    Hey Tinman, long time watcher first comment.
    Just curious. Are those lines copper? Or copper coated to stop rust? In Australia it’s against the law to use copper. That’s the reason I ask, as always great video.
    Also if you chance an earlier metal chain brake assembly to the newer plastic style flag. You’ll want to change the muffler, as the old style muffler will melt the plastic flag :(
