Still at the beginner stage, epic at just hanging there, not so great at the gaining altitude stage. Also exemplary at plummeting off the bar when done hanging around. 😁
I needed this today. Yesterday I ran a 1hr 29 10K, came third from last, and was pipped to the finish by the winner of the half marathon that was happening at the same time. It’s easy to take away from that that I’m a terrible runner, and maybe I am, but I’m a runner, and that on its own is more than most.
Great job! Everyone has to start somewhere. Some take their start point as a confirmation that it isn't for them, others take it as a challenge to improve.
This video is more important than most will think. People see the influencers they follow warming up on bench press with 100kg as if that’s normal. Being able to bench 100kg puts you into the top 1% of the population in terms of strength. It’s not normal. But social media makes people think they’re weak if they can’t do it.
Well, if you regularly go to the gym for a couple of years and train there instead of watching TH-cam it's kinda normal and expected of you. Nothing crazy about benching this weight. Most people cannot do that cause they don't want to not because it's that hard.
100% - I have just been on a holiday resort for while, mainly shall we say people of below average fitness. I was in the gym on the resort most days, usually empty, doing a decent workout and feeling "fit" - then one day I hit the gym at a busy time and the small % of the people staying at the resort who were quite fit all seemed to be in the gym that day, and all seemed to be stronger than me!
Been working on pullups with my PT for a long while now. I can still remember the feeling of, having spent ages working on eccentrics, managing a single pullup. Next week I managed two and a few months later 3 sets of 5. Of all the health related things I've managed post-50, that's probably my proudest gym one.
In my 60th year on this planet I sometimes get depressed that I'll never be as fast cycling or running or bench press as much as I could when I was 30 but your channel cheers me up. I am at least a minute a mile slower running than when I was 50 and my 5k now is nearly 8 minutes slower than when I was 30. I am similarly way slower on a bike. I realise, as I think you do too , that you can't compete against your younger self...and you shouldn't... but compared to the rest of the world I think we are doing ok. My Garmin reckons I'm Excellent vo2 running and Superior vo2 still for cycling for my age. Many studies show great increase in life expectancy for keeping fit. You don't need to keep winning races. You just need to see your grandkids grow up. I had a MacD's 2 weeks ago for the first time in years and felt proper ill next day! I worry that our health system is gonna explode in a few years.
Absolute legend Mark! Your sense of humor dealing with the public was as great as your sense of humor alone in your pain cave!! As someone who regularly was at the gym but due to circumstances have turned into a McDonalds connoisseur, your channel is great motivation to get up and do 2 pull-ups!
Ran my first 100k ultra yesterday. Inspired by your ultra videos. Can't walk today, litterally crawling around my appartment on all four. 😅 Totally worth it though!
Congrats! That’s on my to do list still - also inspired by Mark’s videos. I hope to run a (fast-ish) marathon in September and I’m looking to tackle 100k next year.
Awesome, how long did that take you? I want to do a 100k trail ultra during winter as there's one held here, think it has a 24 hour time limit so should be fairly easy even with the mountains.
What a nice message to send out. Been loving the wisdom you've been sharing in the last few videos, helps put things into a nicer perspective. Thank you!
Im not sure what’s more impressive about the last guy; him banging out 2 with ease, or how he keeps his hat from falling off the back of his head. Either way; props to him, because his adorable little girl got motivated, and couldn’t wait to try. Happy meal, well deserved. 🤘🏼
Was barely able to do half a chin up last year, steady slow effort, did 4 yesterday in gym. This channel is like a rudder in fitness, showing and helping me stay focused on small gains to get above average. Thanks! Looking forward to my €20
Now I don't feel bad after offering my family to $40 to do 2 pull ups. This has been a standing offer at our house for over a year now. Out of 4 kids, only the 8 year old daughter has succeeded. She'll feel great about herself after having watched this video. thanks again.
I just did a half marathon on Saturday. I did not do nearly as well as I had planned for. I ended up finishing in the bottom third of runners. You're right though, the bottom third is significantly more than what most people can do.
Last year I decided to start working on my pull ups after getting in shape and realizing I could actually do one. I've gone from being able to do maybe 3 last June, to doing close to 3 sets of 10 (10-10-8) after about 8 months. As with most things, if you work on it consistently and incrementally, you will be surprised by how far you can get no matter where your starting point may have been.
The "go, go, go, go" sounds identical to the COD 4 guy when you do the very first mission in the shooting range, the one who also says "flash bang through the door"

I found your videos because of cycling. And I am someone who always strives to be above average and then continue to push myself to a point where doing said activity, isn't even fun anymore. Thanks for making me take a look at what I am doing, and stop being so OCD and enjoy it!
