    I think the general consensus is that ID Cooling is the OEM manufacturer for the Black Ridge. And that their fan quality isn’t always the best, the 92mm is too noisy, the slim 15mm has ARGB and is relatively alright, but the fan rises 1mm to 2mm at high rpm.
    I personally like the IS-60 Evo though (with fan swaps to the Noctua 92mm, and Thermalright slim 120mm), with my Ryzen 4650G. Cinebench R23 max temps are at 72C and gaming temps are in the 50Cs. Also, I didn’t face any of the mounting issues with my MSI B550I Gaming Edge Wifi. If you have longer M3 screws, you can fit full sized 120x25mm fans on top of the ISO-60 Evo, making the height to 74mm with better performance.
    Edit: I had to remove the stock M.2 heatsink from the motherboard though, when using the IS-60 Evo.

    That's weird. I use IS-60 EVO since May 2021, didn't come to any problem. I even managed to use AXP-90 back plate with the cooler, although it needed some dexterity to screw in all 4 mounting points - but it's a bit freaky because the mounting bar looks bent with too much pressure. Now I use Noctua backplate with the IS-60 EVO since it's easier to screw the mounting.
    Motherboard was Gigabyte B550i.

    Oddly enough the mounting on both isnt an usse with alignment, but more with the lack of a backplate.
    The screws on both have a stepdown that indicates a backplate would be used for positional accuracy and proper pressure, so the "standoffs" not going through the cooler isnt an issue. If you still would call it one you may want to look into how the Darkrock pro 3 mounted. Pretty much the same besides the mentioned backplate now does the positioning

      Yeah, as I mentioned, the reason I added the backplate because these coolers will turn my motherboard into a shrimp without using one.

    The mounting on the IS-60 Evo is designed that way. There's no need for washers even with the gap from the leg to the motherboard since the mounting brackets are supposed to bow while the thumbscrews bottom out so you don't accidentally over-tighten it. It has the same purpose as spring loaded screws.
    You'll probably get some extra performance without the washers since there will be more mounting pressure.
    Here's another reviewer's IS-60 Evo and you can see it is also flat: th-cam.com/video/00bqWKUdVLg/w-d-xo.html

      Interesting. A search of "Black Ridge backplate reddit" shows many posts claiming using backplate can improve temp + bending issue. I personally see the improvement with the bending, not sure about the temperature. Thanks for sharing.

      He used an AXP-90 backplate that so the mounting brackets are bowing more than usual. I think motherboard bending isn't an issue even without a backplate since the mounting brackets are designed to bend before your board.

    Note that the Noctua Chromax a9x14 goes up to 2500RPM while the regular one only goes to 2200RPM. This added top range will probably make a significant difference and being a noctua fan, it won't be so loud as to not be worth taking advantage. Highly recommend going with the chromax fan.
    Really appreciate reviews that involve reasonable configurations. For example it's very useless to know how worthlessly the IS-47K with stock fan performs, it only matters how well it performs when paired with a noctua fan. Which in this case is very competitive with the black ridge, so I'm going to grab one cuz it's way easier to source at the moment compared to the black ridge.

    Whats the case used for is-60?

  • @galafendouorden
    @galafendouorden 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    You don't need washers if you use Noctua mounting kit, you should you Noctua screws instead as they are longer.
    BTW, mounting brackets are okay if you scree original screes or Noctua mounting kit you will see that fat parts of screws and mounting brackets touch together which means it was intended to use this way, I have no problem of either mounting my is-60 Evo with the original mounting hardware and with Noctua mounting kit, but I do agree that in combination with Noctua screws and backplate I was more satisfied then with original ones

    Can you fit a 120/140mm fan in the 92mm spot?

    I have the same exact model and after a year of use, the 92 mm fan failed. Had to replace it and also the 120mm fan too

    I'm almost certain that hyper 212 mountings can be used with this and will probably let work better.
    Im ordering an rgb SilverStone 92mm fan and I'm still considering using a large gpu fan from a single fan card, it's 100mm and high powered but quiet, that or scythe looks like it has something that will fit the bill.

    It's the same cooler but opposite Id is better because you can fit taller ram

    • @PokerFaZe
      @PokerFaZe  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It depends on what case you use because the heat pipes need to point up. So if you use the IS-60 cooler in the Meshlicious case for example, you will need to switch to shorter RAM.
