These roundup videos are the best that Hardware Canucks make. That's exactly the kind of content I'm looking for when I ask: "I have X case, what is the best I can fit in there". I can find my pick according to performance, price, noise, or a balance of those, all within this video. More like these please, for other components: GPUs, motherboards, mice, etc...
Mike, I feel like a lot of people sleep on ID Cooling. Their largest coolers are honestly never discussed…a video diving into their other products (bigger coolers/aio’s) would be awesome.
I agree but I think the lack of discussion about them has led the company to believe there's less demand for their coolers in the EU and North America than there actually is. Therefore, stock is sometimes a bit hard to find.
A few years back there was an absolutely INSANE ID Cooling sale on Newegg. I got 3 argb fans and their best argb CPU cooler for $10. They had 360 AIOs going for like $20
Love these roundups highlighting lesser known brands like ID-Cooling. They're pretty easy to find here in South East Asia but the lack of coverage means people go towards other brands. Looking forward to a 69mm cooler roundup if you plan on doing it. Mostly because of the Big Shuriken 3 😛
For anyone looking for the IS-50X v2, ID Cooling is selling it directly from them via Newegg. Unfortunately it ships from China so you'll have to wait around a month, but I can't recommend it enough. If you're using it with an AMD system make sure to get Noctua's AM4 backplate kit, otherwise you risk flexing your motherboard if you overtighten the mounting screws. ID Cooling does have an AM4 backplate kit, but it's not as good as Noctua's. I used the IS-60 non-EVO, which is the predecessor to the IS-50X v2, in a Fractal Design Node 202 with a 5700G for quite a few compact livestreaming builds. It kept the 5700G from getting above 80C in full stress tests even with the limited airflow of the Node 202, so I'm glad to see that it has a successor. One thing of note: I had to replace the IS-60 non-EVO's stock fan with a Noctua NF-A12x15 to keep the fan blades from scraping against the dust filter of the Node 202. It doesn't look like the IS-50X v2 will have that issue since it's using a different fan that includes rubber vibration pads, but it's something to keep in mind.
Very impressive results on the AXP-100 CU. I'd still love to see the Scythe Big Shuriken 3 for those slightly larger ITX cases. I'm personally looking at a case with 83mm clearance. Keep up the great work!
@@briannentwick260 I'm planning out a console style build in the Silverstone RVZ01-E with a 3700x. I'm thinking the Big Shuriken 3 should be fine, especially for the cost and RAM clearance compared to other coolers, but if there is something that performs better I'd be willing to consider it.

ID Cooling can make extremely competent "affordable" coolers, including low profile heatsinks so i kinda expected it to be one of the best here. Great Video.
If I remember correctly the backplate from the Noctua L9i AM4 mounting kit can improve temps on the ID Coolers. Doing so makes for an even mounting pressure when installing and prevents bending of the motherboard.
It also keeps your board from flexing if you overtighten the screws. The mounting brackets of the cooler can still bend if you fully tighten the screws, but at least you're not risking damaging your motherboard.
@@trevdawg94 yup. Mentioned that in the last part of my comment. That's primarily why I got it. My b550i motherboard was flexing like crazy without it on an IS-60. I ended up ditching the cooler entirely for a AXP-90 X53 when I finally got a FormD T1 though.

I have to agree that the IS-50 is one of the best low profile cooler that is also affordable. I’ve used one of it before, and where the some low profile coolers cannot make it causing very high 80s to 90s degrees celcius (and even shutdown), the IS-50 kept the processor in the 70s. Comparing it with the bigger Noctua cooler, I feel the reasons why the Noctua can’t keep up is because,(1) smaller fan which does not cover the heatsink, and, (2) bottom mount fan which I generally feel is ineffective when compared to mounting the fan on top of the heatsink and blowing downwards into the fin stack. That is why the IS-50 is giving very stiff competition despite being lower in profile. As for the IS-60 EVO, I suspect if you remove the bottom mount fan, the noise level will go down since there is only 1 fan left and the smaller fan is actually noisier due to the higher RPM, with with little impact to the cooling performance.
Noctua NH-L12 Ghost is just the previous-generation NH-L12 with the top NF-F12 (120mm) fan removed. They didn't even change the NF-B9 fan for newer NF-A9. And MSRP for original L12 was $70 since 2013 - but you got an extra fan!

Thanks to your last low profile cooler review, I was able to decide on purchasing Thermalright’s AXP90-X53 full black for my air-cooled Dan A4 H2O build. Although it was able to cool the 5800x3D to perform upto spec on Cinebench R23, I still undervolted it and at 95w load is able to maintain it at 80°C with an ambient of 27°C-ish. Though I’m not confident I did my testing right, so I’m hoping you guys could cover that same model as well, for a more professional result.
I think the X53 is an awesome options but....and I'm not sure why....Thermalright has really cut down their availability in a lot of regions lately. They've also gone completely quiet on the PR front.
@@stanleydesu Well, I can honestly say it's an audible hum, but not loud enough to be annoying in my opinion. Though personally I'm not that sensitive to audial stuff, and can just tune it out as background noise as it gets mixed with the sound of either my air-conditioning or desk fan. I don't have a sound level meter, and I here apps are far from accurate, so can't give an objective measurement either.
You can squeeze a few degrees better performance with IS-60 EVO and Blackridge if you use a backplate. I use Noctua L9a backplate for AM4. On intel side it's a bit difficult since Therlmalright AXP90 backplate has changed a bit to use smaller diameter screw. But recently ID-Cooling has released new IS-47S with backplate, it looked like a good product.
I'd like to give you big kudos for making videos like these. I'm doing some build planning again and this type of data is very helpful. HOWEVER, I'd like to make an important, but kind of subtle point. For some of us who are pretty deep into getting the best possible build, we are only looking for data on the performance of the heatsinks themselves, because we will be using noctua (or whatever else is best) fans on them. So if the comparison is done with only the stock fan (and this is completely the only reasonable default comparison point!), then the data is unfortunately invalid to do the comparisons from my perspective. A cooler with abysmal performance could just have a terrible fan. Very related to this is that the excellent performance of Noctua products in these comparisons is largely (and the exact extent is not quantified either) because of the superior performance of Noctua fans. I know this is a fairly tall order and would require many things to change in order to address, but I feel like if you're going far enough to do the (fantastic!) two dimensional temp/decibel graphs, then you're probably catering to this audience, and I just wanted to make you aware that the use of unknown quantity stock fans makes the data largely invalid. But only to this audience. Unfortunately. It's still totally valid to the more normal audience that would not bother mix and matching fans though. Another fly in the ointment for me right now (planning for a Velka 7 where I'd be squeezing into that exact 47mm of clearance) is the issue of case side panel turbulence. I'm comparing AXP90-X47 with Alpenfohn Black Ridge, and this aspect will disproportionately penalize the AXP90. Since there is no additional space between the side panel and the intake fan, the blades will become much less effective at scooping up air and airflow is likely to drop precipitously while noise also increases. Because I have not been able to find on the internet any quantitative data on the impact of putting on the side panel for an AXP90 I'm unfortunately not able to determine which cooler to choose.
I have an ID Cooling fan I'm using as a case fan. It should be noted that they're listed as 64mm but it actually need 66mm of clearance because the fan blades stick out higher than it's frame
theres a pretty new cooler in town for the 65mm category... Jonsbo Hx6200D... you guys should check it out as well... easy installation, slightly cheaper than TR Axp100 rh, not copper, the normal variant and best of all superb aesthetic in both black and white... i look forward to see that cooler join the round up man...
Please consider testing new ITX coolers, BeQuiet Pure Rock LP and ID Cooling IS 47 XT. Also Thermalright AXP90-53 Full Black will be nice addition to list.
Wow just saw your other video like a couple days ago and decided to get the Thermalright AXP-90 X53. If the AXP-100 is too tall for your case, the AXP-90 X53 is only 53mm tall. For 45$ it was a solid deal.
Love the video. I'd like to see your test system for the video game test. So i can compare your airflow to what mine might be. Also i was disappointed not to see the Scythe Big Shruken 3 on the list.
currently running an R9-7950X with an IS-55 inside using Kryonaut Extreme thermal compound inside of a Lian Li A4 H20 I run the 105 Watt Eco mode and even with Prime95 running a stress test i'm able to keep it at 90C at the most. Which of course is quite high but considering at stock the cpu tries to achieve 95c I think 90c is pretty good. I changed the Max Temperature before the cpu throttles to the stock 95 degrees while actually running at Eco. It allowed me to score about 34,500 in Cinebench R23 multi core score after a 30 minute run while never breaking 89c. I'm quite happy with these results considering PBO results are somewhere around 38,000. Just gotta be okay with letting it heat up a bit.
Is the id-50x 57mm or 55mm tall? Many ads say 55mm in the title and then 57mm in the specs. Even IDs own website is inconsistent. The is-50x v1 page shows 55mm height in the graphic at the bottom, yet 57 in the specs tab.
Im interested in a 135mm height over motherboard cpu coolers. The Thermalright Peerless Assassin 120 Mini, the Thermalright Silver Arrow 130 and Thermaltake Silver Soul 135 should be the top pics. Would like to see data on it.
Could i use this for a micro atx build??? its for a build with 5600g, i was plannig on using lian li a3 matx and an asus tuf b550 m mobo. I guess i have to check for issues with the hight no or am i in the clear?
I want a downdraft cooler for a standard case and of course I'd like it to perform well. I have room for a better thicker finstack and a regular or even extra thick 120mm fan but as far as I know, nobody is making such a cooler. Even the CM 71C if the extrusion and copper core were 4 inches tall would make me happy. The Stealth cooler is not bad at 65W in my little 5600G APU box MSI Pro DP20Z, it's practically a test bench situation, practically touching the grill for fresh air and the case is so small that hot air is blown directly out, working so well I can even overclock the graphics and ram with Ryzen Master.
Big tanks and lots of praise for tackling this topic and making such a great test. I would like another step and not just in size. Looking into the Question: "If I can't fit a 120 mm Fan Tower-Cooler what is my best Option? Is it a 92 mm Tower cooler or is it a thicker or fanj swaped top blower cooler?" Would a Noctua NH-D9L obliterate this test linup?
Thermalright SS110 is a better choice for performance and looks IMO(they come in all white or black). Their new TL-B9 92mm fans are also better than NF-A9's even when noise normalized according to Chinese reviewers.
Hi there, great round up for low profile fans. Building my first mini ITX and wondering if Noctua NH-L9 is able to fit on Asus ROG Strix X570-I mobo. Thanks in advance.
I went from a coolermaster tower to the K12 and the difference in cooling is night and day... not only is my core temperatures lower across the board, but I've literally pegged my processor with an artificial load for an hour and the temps would not exceed 44C while the coolermaster was always sitting at 70C from how poorly it mated to the die.
wounder how good tr axp 100 cu full copper will be if I pair it with noctua fan (yes I know noctua fan cost another 30 bucks) or I maybe goes for a Arctic Liquid Freezer III 240 insted and pair it with noctua fans idk.
Help! i bought the v3 id cooling. is it the same thing ? cause i can't find any precise tech specs on the heatsink but i can't help notice the v2 is slightly bigger somehow. pls help if u know
Quite liked the scythe shuriken for quiet cooling, but the fan bearing just dies too fast. Went through at least three of them in the same box a couple of years.
@@HardwareCanucks thanks for the response! CM website has it at 61.5mm high. Was looking into these "low profile" coolers (non towers) from a price to perf perspective and where I'm from, the M5 is relatively cheap with higher availability, but similar pricing to the id50x. They look so similar so was curious which one would perform better.
Would the X V2 be enough to cool a 13600kf? This is what I'm using for my first ever build and I don't plan on over clocking or anything just stock out the box.
can't speak for the 65mm version but i've used noctua's regular nh-l9 twice now, once for a 5700g deskmini and once for a 12100f itx build, and it's a really nice cooler for cramped spaces.
Hi @HardwareCanucks, Thanks for the video and exhaustive review. Probably the best thing over all LPCs is missing and you may be interested to check and test it out. Alpenfohn Black Ridge cooler with Noctua NF-A9x14 under and NF-A12x25 on top. It gives the best performance in low profile air cooling segment with only 72mm of height. Another thing you forgot to mention - thermal paste. You probably didn't use the OEM ones and it gives a huge difference in performance. I have IS-60V2 (which is very very similar to IS-50XV2) paired with my Ryzen 5 3600. And with OEM ID-Cooling thermal paste it sucks. It makes my R5 3500 fry at 95-96 Celcius in AIDA CPU+FPU stress test. So if you go with ID-Cooling stuff, be ready to buy a syringe of Cryonaut or Arctic MX-4. One idea for your further videos and tests if you don't mind - 140mm AIOs. It is a good option for some miniITX builds and increases potential for CPU upgrade.
I wish you guys would test DeepCool's AS500 PLUS single-tower cooler. They say it's great for the 5950X and goes toe-to-toe against even the Noctua and Assassin III. Nobody seems to have done a proper review of it since they already tested the AS500 which is the single fan version. I find it odd that for all the praise, I've never seen it in the fan tier videos of most popular PC tech TH-camrs since it came out. Only KitGuru mentions it a bit.
IS-60 evo actually has two fans, and there are much better fans with ARGB you can put in the second fan slot under the 120. Reccomend the SilverStone one that does 2500rpm
BTW, IS-60 Evo performs better without a bottom fan. Using Noctua backplate kit for nh-l9 for am4 works like a charm, hope is-60 evo includes similar one by default
What's the nominal height of the stock Intel cooler (i3-6100)? Have it in a case with minimal clearance, and it would be great to see how much lower these are...
How do they perform against a ryzen wraith spire vc, I have it in my set up but is barely enough to content Temps of 5600x, have it at 1.019v to get max Temps of 67c
Awesome testing, I was curious if I could go little bit taller with my cooler, but as I can see, my 3700X with Thermalright AXP-90R Copper is sufficient enough. Maybe it would be good idea, just comparing these air coolers to simple 120 AIO, just to see, if there is any benefit.
Yeah so, FYI anyone who wants to build in a Fractal Node 202 (my go to low profile ITX case), the Scythe BIG Shuriken 2 Rev.B is the way to go. It literally just fits into the case and gives the best thermal performance imo. The fan shroud does slightly touch the fan filter, but the fan blades themselves don't, I can 100% confirm this.
@@Vlad_Shv Hey Vlad, yeah so it is a 92mm fan from memory (I did build it a few years ago) but it seems to cool the CPU with no problems at all. It’s got an i5-8400 in it. The PC has pretty much run 24/7 since build as it acts as my Plex Media Server (I managed to squeeze in a Strix 1060 6GB for the hardware transcoding) Great case and great system all round.
@@Vlad_Shv No problem at all my friend, glad I could provide some info for you. You're 100% right about getting good info when trying to build an ITX rig.
Would love a roundup like this for top down coolers without size restrictions - something to compare them to tower coolers etc :)
We already did that. th-cam.com/video/meZ9YqsMP_I/w-d-xo.html
I have an ID Cooling fan I'm using as a case fan. It should be noted that they're listed as 64mm but it actually need 66mm of clearance because the fan blades stick out higher than it's frame
Is there any difference if i swap out id cooling is 50x fan with noctua?
theres a pretty new cooler in town for the 65mm category...
Excellent review. Thank you.
Wow just saw your other video like a couple days ago and decided to get the Thermalright AXP-90 X53. If the AXP-100 is too tall for your case, the AXP-90 X53 is only 53mm tall. For 45$ it was a solid deal.
now i wanna see how temps change when you swap out the fan on the is-50 or is-60 for other brands' slim 120mm to thick (phanteks t30) 120mm fans
How does the is-60 EVO run without the top fan installed?
is-47k performance
Love the video. I'd like to see your test system for the video game test. So i can compare your airflow to what mine might be. Also i was disappointed not to see the Scythe Big Shruken 3 on the list.
I'll make sure to post it in the next video.
Scythe Shuriken 2 for me, great build, great value
currently running an R9-7950X with an IS-55 inside using Kryonaut Extreme thermal compound inside of a Lian Li A4 H20 I run the 105 Watt Eco mode and even with Prime95 running a stress test i'm able to keep it at 90C at the most.
That copper is so damn nice!!
I am looking for a cooler that is good for i5-12600k
What about rackmount cooling solutions from Dynatron? 1U and 2U solutions would fit these categories but rather loud
Could i use this for a micro atx build??? its for a build with 5600g, i was plannig on using lian li a3 matx and an asus tuf b550 m mobo. I guess i have to check for issues with the hight no or am i in the clear?
I have the IS-50x and I installed a standart 120 x 25mm fan on it. Dropped CPU temp by another 10%
Great i should do this
I want a downdraft cooler for a standard case and of course I'd like it to perform well.
Is it a 92 mm Tower cooler or is it a thicker or fanj swaped top blower cooler?"
Would a Noctua NH-D9L obliterate this test linup?
It would yeah
Thermalright SS110 is a better choice for performance and looks IMO(they come in all white or black). Their new TL-B9 92mm fans are also better than NF-A9's even when noise normalized according to Chinese reviewers.
Hi there, great round up for low profile fans. Building my first mini ITX and wondering if Noctua NH-L9 is able to fit on Asus ROG Strix X570-I mobo. Thanks in advance.
Will like to see more how AXP-100 and LS-50X V2 compete with each other in different ITX cases, and a Noctua fan swap...
Yeah, that would be great.
Hello, everyone ! 🌞😉👍
Very good !
Thank you very much !
where can i get the thermaright axp-100 i cannot find it anywhere
wish the scythe big shuriken 3 rev b was in this roundup
Help! i bought the v3 id cooling. is it the same thing ? cause i can't find any precise tech specs on the heatsink but i can't help notice the v2 is slightly bigger somehow. pls help if u know
May i know if ID cooling 50x version 2 fit for acer veriton x6660g? Kindly assist me on this. Tq 😊
Quite liked the scythe shuriken for quiet cooling, but the fan bearing just dies too fast. Went through at least three of them in the same box a couple of years.
Love your work! How does the Cooler Master Geminii M5 compare to the ID IS50x? Look fairly similar and as your video shows, size isn't everything 😂
The M5 is quite a bit taller and runs in a very different category if memory serves...
I would love to see some low profile coolers with easy modifications like a fan swap e.g. IS 50x w/ NF-A12 vs L12 Ghost
Would the X V2 be enough to cool a 13600kf? This is what I'm using for my first ever build and I don't plan on over clocking or anything just stock out the box.
what thermal paste did you use at comparing all those cooler?
I would also like to know! Is it the Scythe Big Shuriken 3 that holds a 12600k or 12700k?
What if you put a noctua fan in the is-50x v2
can't speak for the 65mm version but i've used noctua's regular nh-l9 twice now, once for a 5700g deskmini and once for a 12100f itx build, and it's a really nice cooler for cramped spaces.
Yup. Check the last video. :)
What happens if you use the same fan on each cooler? Because I think that the Alpenfohn with a Phanteks T30 beats the AXP.
Hi @HardwareCanucks,
Thanks for the video and exhaustive review.
Thanks for the feedback. I actually looked at the Black Ridge a few weeks ago and tested with multiple fan configurations. :)
@@HardwareCanucks are you gonna release a video about Black Ridge?
Is there any good low profile cooler that used existing backplate from my Intel stock cooler? I dont want to remove my motherboard when installing.
Any recommendations for coolers that will fit in the my64 commodore clone case? They say 30mm is the recommendation for size
IS-30X from the last video?
IS-60 evo actually has two fans, and there are much better fans with ARGB you can put in the second fan slot under the 120. Reccomend the SilverStone one that does 2500rpm
you should do a top tierlist
My wallet is screaming at me. I want to buy something I don't need LOL.
Is noctua l9i good for intel 12400f vs the stock cooler?
Timestamp 11:51 *Noctua L12 Ghost, Not Thermalright
How do they perform against a ryzen wraith spire vc, I have it in my set up but is barely enough to content Temps of 5600x, have it at 1.019v to get max Temps of 67c
Would've liked to see the be quiet! SHADOW ROCK LP included.
Shadow Rock LP is 75mm which (IMO) is outside the "low profile" size.
Have you tested the Thermalright AXP-120-X67 ?
Considering that Thermalright copper heatsink for my 1600AF passive build. Can it be mounted so the heatpipe ends point towards the top of the case?
Sadly no. Its a single orientation for AMD systems.
@@HardwareCanucks Well good, because it's impossible to find in Norway anyway :D
Awesome testing,
I was curious if I could go little bit taller with my cooler, but as I can see, my 3700X with Thermalright AXP-90R Copper is sufficient enough.
Maybe it would be good idea, just comparing these air coolers to simple 120 AIO, just to see, if there is any benefit.
This might sound dumb but is the r7 5800x running at full clock speed? With auto voltage or under voltage?
One additional thing I would suggest is for your CPU choice, go the 12400. In such a small form factor, the management of heat is a big thing so you wouldn't want to go too crazy but the x400 line of CPU's (like my 8400 etc) work really well. I hope your build goes well and suits all of your needs!
I wonder what performance ID IS-50X V2 will have, if you replace their fan with a noctua fan.
Been rocking a noctua L9x65 for awhile and my computer hasn't exploded yet so that's cool! In a Fractal Ridge
That Thermalright one just pops out.
How is the Thermalright SI-100 compared to these?
best down draft coolers plus if down draft coolers even cool vrms or not
For a 7800x3D gaming. Would the Ghost or 50X be best?
What would you recommend for an i7 12700k inside a Fractal Terra ?
Have you gotten your hands on the IS 55 from ID cooling?
Yup!
Not sure if it was user error or I got a bad product, but when I was screwing down an ID55 the screw literally snapped.
