One thing that I like about the bayou is that both arthur and john will sometimes look around their surroundings on foot, it's a pretty cool detail since even they can be scared of the nightfolk
2:17 I get how this shot was supposed to be dramatic and scary, but it was pretty damn funny hearing that goofy "tink" noise when the Night Folk got pistol-whipped
Fun fact: The night folk can actually be heard in the day. Its not actually the night folk, but rather sounds like someone being tortured, and since the ones inflicting this pain onto him make no noise themselves, I have to assume this is the sound of someone becoming a victim of the night folk. R.I.P. lil bro
Officially my SCARIEST Night Folk encounter. There's a Legendary Bounty Mission on RDO, the target I think is Phillip Carlier or something like that. The story is after committing his crime he went underground in Bayou Nwa for years, and living life away from society has done a toll on his mind. What's scary is this fucker not only drugs you before trying to kill you when the mission starts, but when you survive that ordeal you're literally left in the middle of the swamp with absolutely no clue as to where to go. Meanwhile the target has gone into complete hiding. And to make matters worse, he has terribly ill-natured alligators protecting him, and they'll immediately target you if you're simply in the same vicinity. But that's just the icing on the cake; this bounty mission is the only known time in RDO where you legitimately encounter Night Folk. Their lack of vocal communication makes them the perfect ambush predators. As I'm patrolling the Bayou for the bounty target, it's too deathly silent. I'm watching for incoming gators and human silhouettes in the trees. But for long minutes nothing happens. And that's when I heard it. The faintest sound of a knife being pulled out of its sheath. Had it been just a mite fainter, I wouldn't have heard it, and it would've been instant death. But it was just loud enough to hear, and I did the quickest 180° spin before maiming the fucker with a tomahawk. I've decided I'm making all the noise at that point, because that's when all of the shadows in the trees started moving. All hell had broken loose at that one moment. There’s something TERRIBLY wrong with these Night Folk, and this is the only video I’ve seen that digs as deep as I feared it goes. And I fear the origins of these Night Folk are even worse than that. A group of mutes doesn’t just get lost in the wild and go insane. There has to be something much darker and much more evil to it. I honestly strongly agree with the possibility that rituals were conducted in the swamp, some of which went horribly wrong and that’s disrupting the spiritual balance in the region, punishing those responsible by taking their humanity. Or are they actual zombies…? Haitian and West African folklore takes the concept of zombies VERY seriously. And the Red Dead universe does not hold back regarding the racist history of the United States. Zombies by definition don’t have to be shambling and brain dead. In lots of other media zombies are portrayed as fast, strong, agile, and even intelligent. Maybe that’s the case with the Night Folk if they really are zombies. Either way, unlike Skinners and Murfrees, the Night Folk are something FAR worse than a murder gang. Probably something far worse than a cult in general. But maybe this is an area where Rockstar is playing the “some mysteries are best left unsolved” game. We might not ever know…
I know using the spirits for evil or bad purposes is a huge no-no in voodoo. Considering how the symbols in the game are a hodge-podge of voodoo and Palo mayombe symbols, it's possible that the ritual or enchantment they were trying cast backfired either due to the symbols not being drawn correctly, or because the spirits they were trying to invoke purposely sabotaged the spell to "teach them a lesson" as voodoo spirits are known to do.
They arent the reason I hate the swamp. I actually love seeing them because I love a good melee only fight in the game and they are pretty durable so I dont knock em out in just a couple punches. The things that really keep me put of the swamps are the fucking gators 😢
I refuse to ride through the bayou at night😭 it’s literally all I need to 100% the game but I spent all game avoiding the night folk before I knew there was a stranger mission behind it. I do NOT want to force a night folk encounter 😭

That pronunciation of Creole was... something alright.

That’s what made me stay! Loved this cover of the Nightfolk. You even showed the sigils ahhh truly dark stuff!

they do that anyways
I've noticed this too. Arthur seems nervous and looks around way more than normal if you're riding through the bayou at night
They do it everywhere
That one random encounter where you lose your horse and have to chase it through the swamp, terrifying
Man the night folks are the only people that makes me check my time on rdr2

I appreciate how the game director of rockstar was like, hey let’s throw in some Haitian voodoo, but don’t make it obvious.
I mean, there are some very large voodoo veve's painted on trees in the swamp, and at the pagan ritual site. So i'd say it is pretty obvious.
Usually when it starts getting dark I just make sure I'm like around Rhodes or take my chances near Van Horn instead lol

Well, nothing a few bonks from your shooting iron can't solve. 😂
great video as always man!
The swamp is the Highlight erea of the Game!
You should group your rdr2 videos into a playlist
I will do that tomorrow morning I don’t think I can do that in the app but if I can I will. Thanks for the idea

The swamp is beautiful but scary because of gator jumpscares and the night folk
This video is so good to listen to ❤
Thank you so much! I appreciate it
One of them night folk was armed 4:25
I feel kinda bad for the poor people in the bayou that can't afford a way to move out of the swamp
They don’t hunt me I hunt them
Thank god for the dead eye cause that’s freaky
Bro said mobs lol
Lmfao I am an Azeroth kid at heart
Ohhh, they think that darkness is their ally..... but they merely adopted the dark. I was born in it.... molded by it..... 😁🖤
I found them near beaver hollow during the day.
Those are the murfrees
nice
Thanks!
