    I come back to this every so often. Fallon is a student of music and an emotive singer. Cool how he went from performing bruce covers to duets with bruce live in hyde park or on the latest gaslight album history books.

    I absolutely love this cover. While Bruce's original, amazing version has more angry, raw emotion of someone living in the event, Fallon's version is sad, like someone looking back at life's regrets. You can see it written on his face, especially after the song raps and he realizes he's not alone in the studio.

    To be honest I can't understand the negative comments, I thought this was a genius cover. I have to disagree also with all the 'no emotion' comments, he sounds like The Boss when he sings 'I'm on Fire'.

    • @goat2558
      @goat2558 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I agree with you I can't understand all the negative comments. Especially those that say he is showing no emotion. Are ya'll listening to something different than I am? Listen and watch closely and you'll hear a man singing a song that is personally important to him, a man who is singing to and for himself.
      I don't understand those that think a cover is supposed to be an exact recreation of the original, you want to hear the original then listen to the original. A cover is supposed to be an artist take on the original.

  • @Nello7
    @Nello7 12 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Is the purpose of covering a song to make it better than the original? No, it's a homage to the original artist. It should encompass the journey of the soul of the person who is singing it, in this sense, he rocked it.

    Frank, you couldn't have said it better... Dancing in the Dark, although poppy and synth and fuckin awesome in it's own right, is so dark lyrically.. In a wounded with open hearts type of way.. That's why bruce is king.. Keep rockin fallon

    To all of you attacking this interpretation of a great Springsteen song get a grip.
    This song is 40 some odd years old and when it first came out it was leaking with pure raw emotion but like a fine bourbon it has mellowed with time with the harshness and rough edges slowly smoothed over.
    If you don't like that explanation try this one this is Brian Fallon covering a Bruce Springsteen song and though Fallon is perhaps the greatest talent of this day and age he is not Springsteen and it would be ridiculous for him to try to do a note by note pitch perfect copy what would be the point, why not just punch up the original?

  • @Jessiieee23
    @Jessiieee23 12 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Brian's only covering the song, and he did it beautifully. He showed he's able to put his own spin on an already incredible song. Don't compare it to the original, because nothing will live up to it.

    It's interesting to see the different reactions to this cover. Perhaps each version reflects how different individuals would react and/or cope with a loss of a friend/lover. Springsteen's version shows the torturous wailing and almost pleading liked tone side to it, while Fallon's version offers a soft mournful reaction of grief of nostalgia.

    Not many artists will cover other musicians stuff like he does. Brian Fallon's awesome. I love Bruce Springsteen too. Just appreciate a musician giving it a shot or move the fuck on. Get over it and listen to something else. This ain't his best cover but he's got way more of this kind of stuff than most other established musicians.

    @Jessiieee23 12 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Brain as a great voice, he doesn't have the best voice. But he doesn't need to have the best voice because he sings with soul and heart unlike the majority of artists out today. This cover is exactly that, a cover filled with heart and soul, his voice isn't weak, it's just not Bruce.

    I think you're giving him too much stick. This is probably my favourite Springsteen song (or Jungleland), and yes, he may not hit the high notes, but you can still he is putting a lot of passion into this performance.

    Stixnstone49, your charming homophobia and wonderful vocabulary give you away as a sensitive soul and true patron of the arts. It's no wonder you love Brian Fallon so much.

  • @dwright05
    @dwright05 12 ปีที่แล้ว

    listen to their new song "45". He took a new take on the song. In his acoustic versions he goes for softer and more deep emotions. On full band stuff he goes all out and looks to rock out but still keeps the amazing emotion. It's the mistakes in his voice that make him so great because he forgets the technical side of things in lue of pain and heartache and heart and soul. I'd rather have that than someone who can sing "Bel Canto".

    @jjgrbic Fake accent? at least take the time to research before you make accusations, this is his accent. It's all been said alredy, he's paying homage in a pesonal way, it's a fucking excellent cover, deep and heart hitting. You should really look up the gaslight anthem, cause you will really like 'em given your a Bruce fan (I am too).

  • @Croft64
    @Croft64 13 ปีที่แล้ว

    @jjgrbic Can you do better? I think not. What do you expect him to do? If he did the song too drastically differently, you'd complain about him ruining the song. This is an acoustic cover, with just one man (a great man at that) playing it- you can't expect a full orchestra composition.

  • @jzancan
    @jzancan 15 ปีที่แล้ว

    did you seriously just try and compare the record and this?
    its a man and a guitar. did you expect the invisible band in the background to light up? because i know i did.

    Just stop with all that negative comments. Everyone needs to get over that Brian isn't Bruce, and that it was a cover. If he done this song perfectly, all you would say "he's trying to hard to be bruce, he needs to make a name for himself." Here's food for all your small peanut heads. www.redbull.com/us/en/music/stories/1331626739632/the-gaslight-anthems-brian-fallon-comes-clean

    This is superb. Not quite as good as Johnny Cash's "Hurt" cover, but a great cover nonetheless.

  • @standupjack
    @standupjack 15 ปีที่แล้ว

    Sounds more like his own band's style, though. Why cover a song to make it sound just like the original? It's his own take, and it sounds like it could be an outtake from his own band's album. What's wrong with that?

    The only thing I don't like about this cover is the fact, that the guitar is very drony and doesn't quite fit with the vocals until he switches it up, then it gets really good for a bit, then goes back to the same thing. Other than that its a good vocal track, well done man.

    Yepp, you guys out there criticising this, yoou're right. This is an embarrasssment to both Springsteen and Fallon. This is under-rehearsed and ill-advised. The chords are wrong, the tuning is his own affair, he can sing it in whatever key he wants or has to, but he could at least have tried to give this some form of expression and performance.

    I hardly ever comment, but this is atrocious! Is this guy a professional muso? Seems like an amateur working it out in his bedroom and not paying that much attention to the vocals while he figures out the strumming / playing etc.

    • @BikesAndBatallas
      @BikesAndBatallas 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You should comment even less, apparently. I'm sure you'd be dumbfounded to know that Springsteen is a fan of the very person in this video and has performed with him on various occasions.

    • @mauricegray3035
      @mauricegray3035 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Themistocles so what. That doesn't mean this was good!!!

    • @BikesAndBatallas
      @BikesAndBatallas 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It does, however, mean that he's a professional "muso" and not "an amateur working it out in his befroom and not paying that much attention to the vocals while he figures our the strumming/playing". He's a respected mus[ician] who has a distinct style that is respected by the person whom he is covering. You may not like it, and you are entitled to do so, Maurice, but that doesn't mean that this wasn't good either. Opinions are not formative of fact. Indeed, they are, by definition, subjective. And if we're going to take subjective opinions as instructive, I'm in the Bruce Springsteen camp instead of the "Maurice" and "Reizermo" camp.

    He doesn't attempt to sing any challenging notes in the song. As someone who briefly studied Bel Canto singing, I have a feeling that he did not. Bruce really sings from the chest on this one, while Fallon is stuck in his head voice. Just my opinion (I can do a little better, I want to get on the stage with Bruce).

    Just stumbled across this again and after three years I have to admit that it's as poor as I remember. This is the sort of thing i've seen at a thousand open mic nights over the years. I think people are confusing 'emotion' with 'weak croaky singing'. There's an art to singing poorly. Tom Waits knew how to do it. This guy doesn't.

    yeah, whats the point on covering it to make it sound the same.
    personally i don't feel that the song loses emotion, every time i've listened to this i feel tones of emotion. i feel that it is transfered from the heart wrenching pain in springsteens voice, to the subtle pleas of a soft acoustic style voice. just my opinion, you have yours.
