After Julian mentioned about Escape From The Island not being listed on the cover of the original pressing of The Elder, I went and looked at mine and yes it is not listed on the back cover. It is listed on the actual vinyl label though. Its a West German pressing of it.
Ian made very interesting questions... One very interesting fact that Julian broke ( at least to me) is the band was not ready for a new album and it makes a hell of difference. It was less than 3 months they had toured in Australia and New Zealand. Because of the 1980's millionaire contract, they had a tight schedule. Signing it was a completely lack of direction and arrogance, for sure. They thought their juices would be always running like 1976/78, but they were struggling to make songs. I cannot believe " Nowhere to Run" went nowhere ( intendend joke) .

I was just getting into music at the end of the 70s..kiss were my gateway band to rock and metal...I bought unmasked when it came out...I remember hearing the next album was coming out and bought it the day it was released.. by then I was into sabbath and ac/dc.. what a massive disappointment. The elder is plain rubbish..pompous and bloated rubbish. They didnt have the wit or skill to pull off something like that..and no amount of revisionism can change that. I never played it after the first couple of spins...and havent since. Creatures restored my faith. THAT was the Kiss i wanted.
I've never really liked The Elder , even Ace was not totally on board with this shitty album. Escape From The Island is the best thing on here and that's an instrumental.
