Great return to a great series! One thing I like is that Dorothea is the only default mage that is both a girl and crestless meaning that as a Gremory she can use the Thyrsus to get into Defiant Magic range very easily and safely. Her stats really holds her back from doing crazy stuff. 11 magic is great, 8 charm is good and then everything else ranges from meh to bad and her highest growth is 45% in Dexterity of all things. Kinda force her into utility with Rally Charm, Link Attacks and Physic.

As for Dorothea, I usually stick her in either dancer or gremory depending on the run and she tends to do pretty well in both, but well, then there's my friend who absolutely ADORES Dorothea, and whenever he plays 3H he get's SO RNG blessed with her that she ends up becoming the strongest unit on the team by a decent margin. I know personal experience doesn't mean anything when it comes to analysing unit performance but the fact it happens EVERY time is very hilarious and very fun
Love to see the return of this series! If you're training swords for Hexblade, Mortal Savant, and a high-level prowess skill, you may as well class into Swordmaster for the base stats. My Dorothea gained something like 6 defense and 10 strength (which is still relevant to offset weapon weight or to use a regular sword attack against a magical unit)! I didn't bother training either riding or flying so I classed into Swordmaster merely as something to do at the Advanced level, and was pleasantly surprised by the stat increases. Plus she rocks the swordmaster outfit.
Every advanced tier class has at least a base defense of 12, so Swordmaster is not unique in this respect specifically for getting more defense, as she would get that same base 12 defense if going Warlock at all, and I think it’s definitely more worth it to push her Reason to higher levels rather than Swords (at least until she wants to enter into a Sword class like Mortal Savant). In terms of strength however, I’d definitely agree it’d a good option to bump to the base of 17 with Swordmaster/Assassin due to ease of access for her (the latter if she goes Archer for Hit+20)
Songstress really saved me during chapters 2 and 3 when Lindhardt has only a scarce few heal casts and I didn't bring many vulneraries. I was able to heal everyone back to full after a few turns between fights which really helped.
Nice to see these videos again I really like them. Dorothea is one of those characters I have not done much with. Dancer and the mage route are the only areas I really use her for. For me the most memorable thing about her in combat is me putting her next to Bernie during chapter 2 and losing Bernie's 5 dmg by accident. I hate that I have done that more than once.
Having used Dorothea on my CF and SS Maddening runs, I can say that while she's obviously not the most powerful magic unit or best magic utility unit, she is still a solid unit overall and can provide consistent utility and usefulness from start to finish thanks to various abilities such as Rally Charm and Songstress in the early game, and Meteor for Linked Attacks and Gambit supports. Plus, she can still inflict solid damage thanks to her reason spells.
She’s a decent enough magic user. Being female gives her an advantage over the other black eagles mages who have terrible master class options, but until then Hubert has better damage, and linhardt has better support. Hexblade can help with the damage but it makes planning for enemy phase more annoying for me
Great that your doing this series again As for Dorothea herself she kinda slots into this roll of like semi offensive support mage that I don't really know where to put in an endgame class so I just shove them in dancer so I don't need to think about it think units like Marianne or flayn and maybe Annette.
I’d say Annette may not be the best dancer bc she can’t rally and dance at the same time, but she can be a good choice if you don’t wanna waste anyone else’s stats on dancer lol
The most underrated spell list in my opinion. Psysic, Meator, and Thoron are incredible useful since she can contribute while being safely out of danger. Meteor alone in an amazing tool for one turing chapters. She was my main magic user in Black Eagles and she impressed me a lot.
Not to mention in dancer she can use Levin+Sword avoid+Axebreaker. She can dance then use fetters of dromi to position next to armor units to enemy phase and kill them in part 2 Otherwise basically becomes a diet Constance. Abusing hexblade, supporting with rally charm, physic, and meteor throughout the game as a Dark flier/Mortal Sevant. Too bad she has banes in both flying & riding tho Her ability is an infinite staff if you have the patience. It’s great for turtling through early game & Hunting by daybreak. Dark flier Dorothea is super clutch in HBD
You get a stat bump. For example on my most recent run I trained her in axes and armor early to get the armor knight class and unlocking it gave her +8 defense. Though I never used the class for combat after.
@@LunarBoo eh I’d argue Lysithea probably is the better Mortal Savant (if focusing on Swords so the lack of Dark Tomefaire isnt an issue) but Lysithea is basically the best unit for most magic classes in the game, and she’d much rather be in Gremory for doubled warp uses so her sword abilities are (rightfully) overlooked to some degree
@Idk Dk They can all make it work, but I think the difference is that while MS works, they would rather be in. With Dorothea, MS is actually straight up competitive with her other options.
i'm probably a bit late to this, but being the only female magic unit(iirc) that can do vantage-wrath-defiant magic with self-procced thyrsus is it's own niche. is it decent? yeah. is it worth it? not really. but is it fun??? yes.
One advantage she gets from going for an early Hexblade is certifying into Thief for the Speed and Dex bump. And i posted this before listening to the whole video, like an idiot.
There’s actually quite a few characters who do, but usually they have better things to do. All of Dorothea, Edelgard, Lysithea, Balthus, Yuri, Constance and Ignatz get boons/budding talents in both Swords and Reason, although for Edelgard, Balthus and Lysithea in particular i can see why the option of Mortal Savant may be overlooked in favour of other classes that suit such great units
Her riding and flying banes are so unfortunate in a game that values movement so much, and while mages like Lorenz and Hubert get to go Paladin for Lancefaire Frozen Lance there’s no such Swordfaire mounted class she can use, and even if there was to do so would require a lot of skill rank investment. I wonder how much better she would be if she didn’t have a flying bane or even if Dark Flier had Swordfaire (in line with its +2 bonus to Sword rank gain, though this would definitely powercreep Mortal Savant) instead of the mostly useless Transmute. I do think you shouldn’t just ignore White Magic Avoid +20, because it does stack with the innate Faith Prowess avoid bonuses (tied with swords for highest avo bonus), and can be fairly decent in enemy phasing enemy mages that she can tank with good Res, and thus it can find use on maps like Ashe’s Paralogue where there exists areas solely of mages. If you really want to, investing in Axes and Armor for Base 12 defense at Lvl 10 can make her a very solid enemy phase unit that both can take physical and magic hits and dodge quite often while healing herself, though of course this slows progress into getting her Swords/Reason/Faith/Authority. Heavy Armor isn’t an awful investment though because Weight -3 is a nice thing to get on mages with low Str, and an investment in Axes can be nice to bump up that Str with Brigand qualifications, but it’s a niche option that only really becomes viable if grinding weapon ranks.
