Really good video. It's nice when someone takes the time and describes each step, including the bolt sizes etc. especially since I would have likely tried to pull that bolt out that holds in the ignition coil, not knowing it doesn't remove fully.
Really well done video man. Love that you included the tool list and also a lot of people wouldn't know about replacing the original paper gasket with a stronger one.
I've had this vz for a year now (first car) and it's an absolute shitbox so I'm starting to learn to do simple things as I go to cut down on costs since the timing chain is about to send itself into space, this has to be by far one of the best videos to learn from. changed all my plugs without destroying a thing 10/10
Im on to my second VZ, both '05. First one was written off a couple years ago but had 260k on her, current one i got a year ago and shes sitting on just over 100k now. Realised this means I'll be coming across all the big replacements and mechanics hate working on them. If you've still got yours, would absolutely love and appreciate more videos like this one. I've been diagnosing issues using the holden forum which is great, but I'm a visual learner. Much prefer to learn how to do it myself without having to travel the countryside and forking out money better spent elsewhere.
Thk you great vid straight and. No over doing the talk, I'm doing my VZ for the first time thks to your vid I'll be more confidant in the job at hand ,
Awesome video, thanks mate! Quick question, is the torque wrench essential when threading the plugs back in? Or am I able to get away with a tight twist in :D
Good video, but never use antisieze on spark plugs oil maybe but not necessary and could make it hard to remove the plug after cooking. Antisieze has metal particles which once the plug and head get hot will run along the threads with the oil carrier. This can then find its way to the end of the plug. As the plug sparks and ignition is started the fine metal of the antisieze is sprayed and will adhere to the porcelain insulator thus causing a short circuit, no more spark!
@@JamesMayer125 Neither was I until it happened to me! Best to install plugs with clean threads. Most are cadmium plated which is a bit of a help. Not over tightening is your best bet for easy extraction later.
Yeah maybe they weren’t the problem. Hard to say really without knowing what’s going on. If you changed the coils and plugs you can probably rule them out now
380k on my 04 VZ, it's burning oil so much it goes black 2 weeks after changing. But man it's still driving, absolute road warrior! Meanwhile my wife's 2011 VE is nothing but problem after problem, I honestly hate it. We're trading it in very soon but I'll keep the VZ for a few more years. Might even reco the engine and see how long I can keep it on the road.
Hello. I am from Brazil and here we have the models from 99 to 2011. I would like to know if you are difficult to acquire parts. Oh, where do you live? Here in Brazil few have seen spare parts for this reason and sadness. but tell me I'm with a friend.
just a question, can a person apply for apprenticeship for a car mechanic even tho the person is clueless in cars. i mean should i already have a knowledge about cars going in to the apprenticeship or will they teach me things beginning from the basics?
Yeah don’t see why anyone can’t apply. You can apply to a tafe (in Australia) and they will teach you the basics. Basics would be a bonus though. I’m not an expert though I’m afraid. Hope it all works out :)
Nice Spannering and Socketeering James 😁 Job well done 👍🏻, bodywork on your car looks great for a 2006 model and yeah I make a similar noise in morning before my first cuppa coffee ☕️😂, nice camera work too JAMES in a tight area 👌🏻
Interesting. The fuel system shouldn’t have been touched so we can cross that off the list. I’d say check all your ignition coil connections see if they are seated in properly and make sure they are in the right spot. But other then that the spark plugs gap could be wrong. My car ran horribly for a about a minute or so when I first started it then came back smoothly. Hope this helps

😂😂 yeah I’ve heard lots of things about the alloytecs. I’m holding out hope mine had a few more years left in her. Glad I could help mate
Great job @james, very informative with a bit of humour chucked in! 👍🏼

Great guide. Replacing the plugs was enough for ours. Don't buy cheap coils - the engine will start and run for five seconds.
Best vid !!! Well done and explained 10 out of 10 James :)
Glad I could help!
Good video mate, just wondering if your "check power train" code went away after the ignition coil change, as my VZ Crewman has the same code.
Hi, have you got a pic on releasing the coil pack plugs? I've got an RA Rodeo but look the same. Also what were the torque specs you applied?
Can you make a video on basic at home service we can do ourselves for this car like oil water etc???????? ❤❤ plsss
I put plugs back in an when I revered it the was smell of oil leaking around the plug I put back in. Great video.
Did mine with a eBay kit 3 years ago has ran perfectly since.
Thanks James. Excellent video, and also appreciate the realistic #*-& design comments. Kiwi VZ
Well done nicely done. One question you skipped that process of removing those bloody co plugs which can be a nightmare to unclip.
Thk you great vid straight and. No over doing the talk, I'm doing my VZ for the first time thks to your vid I'll be more confidant in the job at hand ,
Do you need this rtv gasket masker if you have a metal gasket
Probably don’t really need to. It is a gasket after all. Just an extra layer really
Awesome video, thanks mate! Quick question, is the torque wrench essential when threading the plugs back in? Or am I able to get away with a tight twist in :D
Torque wrench is definitely not essential. If I wasn’t filming a video I probably wouldn’t use it either haha
Good Video mate!, I was dreading doing this but the video made it look easy
Crank angle sensor were is it located
How much would this cost at a mechanics ?
Thanks mate, well done.
Thanks James and random mate. Legends. Funny c nts too!
Love the videos, normally exclusive to ve videos but we have the same engine somewhat (ly7 hfv6 08 sv6)
Doing mine right now while watching
Your the man !
Thank You James

Good to know. I wasn’t aware of that before. Cheers

Cheers, very helpful
Hey mate, in the video the RTV is put on so it comes into contact with the bottom of the gasket. Do you put any on the top of the gasket?
Sure do. Just make sure you don’t have any over hanging the inlets
Cheers mate.
I use metal gaskets, also invest in a k&n air filter, let your engine breath.
And more vz material needs to come available, so don't stop
I just unbolt the plhemem on mine put a block of wood to hold it up and change plugs
That’s a great idea for it. Thanks for sharing
What about the gasket, can you change that with this method?
Not having tried this I can’t guarantee but as there is two separate gaskets I don’t see why not
What do you think Gordon?
i changed my coils and spark plugs, but the car still won't start. is it because they were never the problem? the car is cranking just won't start
Yeah maybe they weren’t the problem. Hard to say really without knowing what’s going on. If you changed the coils and plugs you can probably rule them out now
Hey James great video do you want to do my 2006 VZ I will pay you 150 and supply the parts I am too old to work on cars these days lol
260 000 on my 06 VZ. Burns a bit of oil but its hanging in there.

Man changed all my spark plugs and coils and the same bank 3 still not working after putting a new one in
Nice bro
Seeing this engine I'm glad my V6 has a timing belt😅.
You got a Mitsubishi
Oh Spannering , Socketeering and I always forget the Screwing 😂
Should have bought a Ford!
Those plugs seemed to be in way too tight.
Nice Spannering and Socketeering James 😁
