Very well documented.. Among the tombs I salute FWStevens the architect of Bombay. However.... many will not remember The great Indian Freedom Fighter and aide of Lokmanya Tilak.. Barrister, Joseph "Kaka" Baptista, a son of the Soil "Marathi Manoos" Who is credited with the slogan "Swaraj is my Birthright and I shall Have it" May His Soul Rest In Peace!
My grandmother is buried here. I was very small when I visited this graveyard. I hope to go back soon and if luck is by my side....her grave will still be there 🤍
I have an uncle buried there. His name was T A Boyle and he died in Bombay in October 1930 when he was there with the travelling Cox and Harder Show. His family lived in Penang, Malaya (which was then also a British colony).
Settlement and City are different things. As a settlement Mumbai goes back 2000+ years. However it had only 6000 as the population when the British arrived. Must have been even lower when the Portuguese arrived earlier. It was a swamp. Half the land was under the sea as well. And it wasn't even one entity but 7 different Islands. Gerald Aungier founded the CITY of Mumbai in 1670. I'm a Hindu, but I will not lie about my city's history. Founding fathers are people with a vision who build long lasting cities. Just living in a place doesn't make it a city.
