Harrison Ford is similar except he actually hates Han Solo, people would call him Han and always bombard him with Star Wars questions rather than other anything else he actually enjoyed, like Indiana Jones which he loved.
@@sumbigdumkuntAlec Guinness is a better example of what people are accusing Steven ogg of. Alec Guinness did literally believe Star wars was beneath him and hated the fans, even the kids
@@sumbigdumkunt Ford's never hated Han Solo, he just felt the character didn't have much substance and wasn't a great role model for kids to follow (a smuggler in his mid 30s)
I think he just prefers being recognised as a physical actor rather than just being seen as a voice actor, which would make sense when he did a live-action portrayal of Trevor with corridor

He doesn't hate Trevor. He's mildly annoyed, annoyed enough to make a public statement on a Cameo video (which shouldn't have been public in the first place). But that's it. He doesn't hate the character, he's just annoyed that he's recognised as Trevor. That's it.
But what are you gonna do that’s his most iconic character sorry Simon from The Walking Dead and the hired thug from better call Saul. This is his most iconic character and with iconic characters come to notation that your presence is the character for some people. It’s like the solos character for some people is most iconic character was face from the wash the kidnapper, but now, since GTA has came out, Franklin Clinton is his most iconic character same with Ned Luke it’s Michael DeSanta

I wouldn’t wanna be constantly called by the name of a character I did 11 years ago either. While I get why people call him Trevor, I always make sure to say Steven ogg in any other context that what Trevor is doing in the game. His other roles weren’t as memorable, but I enjoyed them anyway

@@BayAreaMike99 Steven gets the displeasure of his one Memorable Acting role be a raging rapist molesting psycopatyh though, all these other guys can atleast feel proud of their characters etc in some form!
I actually had a chat with the man in Dublin Comicon. Tbh the online perception of his hate for the character is exaggerated. He dosent mind it, he just loves having new interesting projects
In some fairness, even Ned Luke and Solo have said he loathes the fact that he played Trevor. Not just disassociating from him. But almost to the point of outright denying any relations to said character.
I personally don't think he hates it. He still embraces it to some extend. People keep asking him about GTA 6 and if Trevor will be in it, or People asking questions about Trevor as if he was real, as if HE (Steven) is Trevor. I assume this builds a certain frustration with the character.
You’re absolutely right, I’m sure it would irritate you if you were an actor and were constantly known for one role instead of your other roles. It’s like if people only praised Robert Downey Jr for Tropic Thunder and not his other roles.
lore in gta online is that he embraced yoga or something so if he returns he should be the opposite of what we expect him to be. kinda like that girl from the epsilon program who returned from gta 4.
@@krabgrass Robert Downey Jr is the exact WRONG example for this discussion. He embraces being "Tony Stark" and knows that role is what not only saved his career but gave him the iconic role most actors would dream of having to elongate their relevance. He's been "Tony Stark" for soo much longer than Steven Ogg has been "Trevor" yet he doesn't resent his most iconic role because the fans don't know his other lesser roles. Like I get the annoyance that he hasn't had another role near big enough to equate to or surpass the role of "Trevor" but with how he belittles the role because its not physical acting and being ignorant to the medium of video games, it makes him come off at least slightly ungrateful to the role. Let alone it just being an immoral move to take $100+ from 2 "cameo" requests asking him to tap into playing Trevor again, accepting it but doing a half effort attempt while refusing to follow along with the Trevor request, and in a sense kind of mocking the guy's for even asking him to act as "Trevor" again. Even if everyone is reading into his actions and comments too much and he doesn't mind his role as "Trevor", it's pretty irredeemable to his personal character to accept money for a request to play a role, not do the role while taking the money, and then mock the people who asked you to do the role.
The internet just ran with the perception that Steven hates Trevor because of those Cameo videos, which to an extent I do think there is resentment from Steven, but it's not hatred. It's more frustration that kids (mainly I'd assume) are constantly wanting him to talk and be present "in character" as Trevor, which if that's the case I can see becoming very annoying very quick. I do think he loves the character and likes to talk about Trevor, but in a 3rd person perspective, he likes to talk *about* Trevor, not talk *as* Trevor, I think any actor would. Shawn and Ned are more into it cause they're the gamers, they play and have played games for decades, Steven just never got into it, which is perfectly fine.
You hit the nail on the head. He is clearly deeply passionate about his work - when he calls GTA a "cartoon" that's just his boomer way of saying he's an animated character - so he would rather interact with the fans as himself rather than pretending to be something he's not. i don't feel it was appropriate for him to vent his frustrations on cameo, but i also get the impression he's just generally out of the loop and doesn't really understand how it works either.
What the other guy said he can think all of that but dont take a fans money then berate them like a crybaby when he could have just declined the cameo thats the thing that sticks with me.
I want to point out that some people said that Steven Ogg thought that acting in videogames was beneath him was actually based on Burt Reynolds who played Avery Carrington. Who did actually think it was beneath him. Hence why they killed his character and made a vow to never use their favorite actors in their videogames. That is why we see Steven Ogg, Ned Luke, and Shawn Fantino picked as the protagonists instead of someone more A-List.
@@PliskinYT Ray was partly the reason why they stopped, the other part was Burt. They both did not understand/respect video games and how they could be used as entertainment.
Unfortunately for him, fate just hasn't worked out to land him another role as iconic to rival the fame "Trevor" has. Ned Luke and Solo have both went on their own rants about Stevens perspective on "Trevor" and they showcased the same frustrations some of the fans are stating (Ned more so than Solo). Like fine, we can see how it would be annoying for that role to remain his #1 for so long when he doesn't really get the medium's popularity in general. However THIS WAS YOUR BREAK, without this role he wouldn't even have had the fame to land the roles in TWD and Better Call Saul as easily as he did. He may have other roles that he personally may have enjoyed more, but how he has acted towards this role in recent years is belittling to the role, the medium, and in a way also disrespects Ned Luke and Solo for also being in the same situation as him except them being completely grateful for their roles.
Pretty sure he just wants to be recognized for his other works Like Rainn Wilson only being recognized as Dwight from the office Same with most actors; they just want to be recognized for them; not the one character out of the tens or hundreds they may have played in the past No actor wants to be pigeon holed into one role, or one character
Yeah the hell do you expect thats your most famous character it’s like Vin Diesel been mad that he’s been recognized as Dominic Toretto not the guy from triple X some actors like Samuel L Jackson are recognized because they’re Samuel L Jackson, some actors like James Gandolfini are recognized for their characters a.k.a. Tony soprano he said multiple times are people think he would act totally like him, but he was actually the opposite total sweet awesome gentleman guy but people thought since he played Tony, he would act like Tony that’s the same thing with Steven and yes, he was in The Walking Dead as Simon, and the one thug from better call Saul, but in both of those television shows he still had the Trevor demeanor he embodies Trevor whether he likes it or not
I get the frustration, but that's just how it goes. In spite of them trying to create more iconic roles, it just so happens that only 1 really stuck with the audience to that degree. Unfortunately, That is a bit of a reality check to the actors that they may not be as skilled at the profession as they may dream to be and that role was the one that came together well for what they ARE good at. But that still doesn't make it any better that it at least looks and feels as though he's unappreciative of the role to a degree. Gamer or not, that was his one break that gave him the notoriety for people to even notice him on the street to begin with. Without that he role likely may not have gotten his roles in TWD and Better Call Saul, and if he never got the gig from Rockstar, as Ned Luke explains about himself when on this discussion, they would have just been small gig actors who had a few decent roles in some things that they could look back on afterwards. Now that they have these iconic roles, They now have a forever relevance role that everyone will remember them from instead of being just "a former actor".
I think it's terrible when people recognize him in public and just say "HEY TREVOR!" Instead of, "Hey you're Steven Ogg. You're one of my favorite actors!" It should be common courtesy to address an actor by their actual name first, and then segway into talking about their roles after.
The problem is that many people probably only know him as Trevor. They'd never heard of him before GTA5 and haven't seen him in anything since, so they've maybe seen his name in a credit sequence a few times, but have heard the name Trevor hundreds of times while playing GTA5. In other words, a lot of the people who call him Trevor probably don't actually know his real name, or at least can't remember it in the moment. I'm not saying that makes it okay, just that in most cases it is probably not intentionally disrespectful, but more of a "lesser of two evils" kind of thing, compared to "Hey you! Uhm..."
I can see how it would be upsetting. Still though, in highschool people always refer to me as "Jimmy" because they thought the name was fun, but that name is what got me popular, so I had no major problem with it.
It reminds me of a TV show called Eastenders, where there was a character (also called Trevor lol!) and he was a real nasty character who beat and torture his wife. And the actor, Alexander Ferns, explained how he was literally hounded in the streets by the public, and receiving threats, as if he had been the one doing this IRL. And the role nearly ended with his acting career. Reading about it, he even said it interfered with his other option of being a councillor, as the worry was he might trigger victims. 😲 People are nuts.
But to call it a cartoon character is just straight up weird, if you have even half a brain when playing the game, the player should be able to recognize that Trevor is a deeply depressed and misunderstood character, far from a one-dimensional "cartoon character" (I mean, even cartoons can have meaningful characters sometimes). I'd expect that from someone who played the game only superficially, but from the guy who literally played Trevor?
I think it's sad that you know him as Steven Ogg, moat gamers don't pay attention to who plays who or what the actors name are, most of us have a life and don't have time to care THAT much.
Oh wow, I was watching this video, presuming it was some famous video with hundreds of thousands of views like usual; didn't expect it to be this small. Great video.

I still don't think it's OK for him to advertise that he's "the famous voice of Trevor from hit game GTA V" in his cameo, and then immediately afterwards get upset when he gets asked to do a Trevor impression. You glazed right over his whole cameo situation, the main reason people are upset with him in the first place.
He doesn’t hate Trevor, he hates the fact that people call him Trevor and treat him as if he is Trevor. I think he is worried he will be typecasted or be a one hit wonder as an actor. Steven Ogg is a talented actor and deserves more legitimate work.
Knowing games or not, he is an amazing actor. He has crushed every role I have seen him play. If you meet any actors, give them respect and use their real name, or at worst say "Oh, you're the actor for Trevor in GTA, I love that game".
Bruce Campbell hates being called Ash. Bruce went as far as to say: "If you think I am Ash, you need help." It's not as uncommon or absurd for people that played the roles of characters to want people to know them as them and not the characters they portrayed.
Rockstar : "Hey! Thanks for taking the job, Steven! Now we can start recording your voice, face and facial movements, scanning your body and body language with million-dollar equipment, and get you to do some minor stunts involving firearms and vehicles!" Steven : "Sounds like a kids joint to me."
The Corridor video is old af, also one interviews. Though i agree that he does not hate the character, he hates being ”trevor” he wants to be seen for his other great roles. The same way Leonardo Decapro would not want to be ”The Titanic Guy”
Yes, but what are you gonna do at the end of the day either you hate the character or you embrace it and sometimes people who embrace the character feel better
The thing is he may have not gotten a few of those roles without the Trevor role being so popular. Also in some of his other roles, he is still pretty much acting like Trevor. Whereas your example of Leonardo DiCaprio, a lot of his roles are very different from each other.
you can't convince me he's not triggered by the mere mention of GTA or Trevor. The way he says he's not a cartoon, trolls cameo donors by acting like he doesn't know what GTA even is, These clips are all older than the clips that basically confirm if he's not getting paid to talk about it he'll just snub you if you remind him of that project in any way.
@@TheJinx64 he gaslights you like he doesn't know what you're even talking about when you mention GTA. He'll act like he doesn't understand the references you make when you bring up his past.
Thank God someone said this. All that coverage I saw rubbed me the wrong way. I felt he was just annoyed with being called Trevor, and people took that and ran with it. Overall, I think he's a talented actor and a good guy, but he just made a bad decision lashing out at Hugo like that.
He doesn’t know video games, as he said. He doesn’t hate Trevor or GTA, he just doesn’t understand video games. Nothing wrong with that, the other actors engage a lot more with the community because they’re gamers. Hell, solo, Franklin’s actor is the oldest one of the main cast, and he’s done a lot of videos on TH-camr with Slick (Lamar’s actor)
If Steve Ogg has any hate for the character, it's because some fans won't let him move on from that role. Steve's done a lot since GTA V..... And I for one have enjoyed all of his roles since.
Most people just really misheard him. What I got from the one interview was that he thought it was cool, but he just physically didn't understand how big of a thing gta is. He still thinks it is awesome that everyone still loves it, but to him, it just doesn't make sense. And then, like you said, constantly being remembered as Trevor instead of Trevor being remembered as him. It would honestly piss me off too.
the guy just wanted to be treated like himself, i mean just look at 6:37 "How about just a hug man?" you can tell that he doesn't want to act and behave violent because of his acting in GTA V, and he would rather be chill and be Steven Ogg than Trevor Phillips i felt bad for him
Just like the cast of red dead 2, Stephen Ogg, Ned Luke, and Shawn Fonteno aren't just voice actors. They are the actors. The game is motion captured, so it was filmed like a movie on a set, and the actors's faces were used for the character's likenesses. Saying Stephen Ogg is the voice actor for Trevor is like saying that Leonardo Dicaprio is the voice actor for Jack in Titanic, or that Tom Cruise is the voice actor for Maverick in Top Gun. Like sure, it's true, but it hardly encapsulates their role in the things that they're in.
I also think people misunderstand him when says Trevor is a 'cartoon'. I think he's saying that Trevor is Rockstar intellectual property that took hundreds of developers and artists to create, millions of dollars in mocap equipment. So when fans on cameo tell him 'we miss Trevor', he really dosen't really know what to do with that note? Steven Ogg doing a rushed impression of Trevor on a street corner for a $30 Cameo is not really Trevor, and he can't really break into Rockstar and force them ro make a Trevor-centric GTA: Online expansion, so...?
Some actors hate their most famous role, because it means that their other works go unrecognized. And it's a double edged sword. If it leads to steady work, it has its perks. But it does feel nice to branch out, and experience some variety.
Besides the cameo stuff as according to comments he straight up doesn't do the lines people _paid_ him to say, this is just another case of an actor being recognized for a single role when they've done more stuff before & after. A similar thing happened to Sir Alec Guinness who played Obi-Wan Kenobi in the Original Trilogy, there's a misconception that he hated the role but he was simply sick of only getting recognized for Star Wars. Unless it's their favorite project, most actors get sick of being asked about one or two roles when they've done dozens of them especially if it's been years or even decades since they did it. What's hard for Steve Ogg is that GTA V is one of the best selling games across multiple generations and continues to sell well so there's always people who only know him as Trevor, and thus only have questions about that project if they ever meet him....and likely a lot of the same questions so he probably feels like he's a broken record when interviewed.
His perspective shifted later. He was more positive, but he became more bitter/frustrated afterwards, because he doesn't even want to work with Rockstar anymore.
It must be unbearable to be so tied to something for so many years, it happens to all actors whether they want it or not to a greater or lesser extent, Steven had the fortune and bad luck to play one of the main characters on the most profitable entertainment medium of history. Imagine how many people he must pass every day saying "Are you TrEVOr fRoM GTA V??"
This Steven Ogg story started hitting my recommendations recently. (I just started replaying GTA V) Your video is interesting because all of the other videos have cut off the clips, after the negative comments. They didn't include his attempts to smooth out what he is trying to explain, nor include the more positive takes. Glad I took the time to hear the alternative side of the argument. Have to agree though with your take on the Cameo. To my mind, they seemed unprofessional and a F U to the customer. And seriously overpriced for the level of effort he puts into them.
I hated this situation so much because I can’t imagine being an actor and only being referred to as one character for the rest of my life like I’m stuck as the one character that’s all I’ll ever be, and then people started complaining and bringing Keanu Reeves into it saying that he was grateful for his role in the game, he was in but that’s Keanu Reeves and that was a recent game. Is it really bad to show some respect for the actor and not call him the name of a character he did 11 years ago
He seems to forget some times that this role put him on the map. Were im from this is called being ungrateful. I think its ridiculous to play a role so well and then get pissed of because you did an awesome job as an actor on a project and get noticed world wide for it. He should be grateful and cherish this character. Because remember Steven …this role put you on the map.
I think I saw a video where steven ogg said that most people that come up to him tell him to do crazy things like punch them, scream at them and curse at them, showing how people only think of Trevor as a crazy maniac, when in actuality he's actually a broken loyal friend. I think in the end he also said that instead of all that how about just asking for a hug.
I love the dude, I can totally understand not wanting to be known as one character for your whole life, Like Christopher Mintz(McLovin), and several others. I don't think Norman Reedus can be in anything anymore without "Daryl Dixon" being what everyone calls him. And Trevor really actually is a cartoon character though. He's violently expressive, animated, over the top and goofy, he i*is* a cartoon, that doesn't mean it's a bad thing.
Underrated video indeed. Watching all these new moments with Steven and realizing he became a victim of misunderstanding and slander on the part of lovers of cheap hype is kind of even makes me ashamed of myself, because I watched couple of these videos too and thought "Oh what a douche he is actually" without even checking is this all about him or are there other sides to it. And here they are. Of course, it is unlikely that speculations can greatly affect Steven's reputation in general, but some individuals are capable of undeservedly pestering him at times. I hope this subject will get more attention.
He doesn't hate Trevor he hates the way fans treat him as if he's only ever gonna be valid as Trevor and will never be recognized for anything else he has done. He goes on the walking dead as Simon, "OMG TREVOR IS ON THE WALKING DEAD WHY ISNT HE THE BIG BAD INSTEAD OF NEGAN?" or he shows up on better call Saul "OMG ITS TREVOR WHY IS HE NOT DOING CRAZY THINGS?" If there's any hatred of Trevor from him it's directly the fans fault.
The thing that's odd to me is he claims to know nothing about the game world yet makes the distinction between him and the character he stomps out being from separate games..
I wonder how is Steven ogg not voicing rick in rick and morty he would do a great voice as rick and he even sounds like him and he actually likes cartoons so I think he would've genuinely enjoyed it
The only reason Steven accepted the role of Trevor is because he did not fully understand what he was getting himself into. He had no concept of how big of a deal the Grand Theft Auto franchise had become and how its protagonists go on to becoming larger than life legends who are embraced by fans all over the world. He probably looked at video games as being something for kids, or man boys living in the basement of their parent's house. His use of the word cartoon in reference to GTA 5 is clearly meant to reduce it to something that isn't a big deal. Being typecast as video game character is the worst thing could have happened to Steven due to his negative opinion of video games. That's the reason Trevor's fame is so infuriating especially when it became obvious it wasn't going to go away. Steven Ogg may not have hated Trevor in the beginning however he most certainly is aware of the mistake he made when he agreed to voice the character. He'll never admit it publicly however his actions have revealed that over time he grew to hate Trevor.
Yeah, maybe he didn't fully understand how popular this role was. He was in video games before GTA V but nobody really talks about them because they weren't as good or popular. I struggle to even find what he did in some of those games.
@@weppwebb2885 Nothing here is made up. Steven didn't know what he was getting into, and he has still never played GTA V. He isn't into video games, its not a big deal to him, and he wants to be known as more than just the psycho canadian bank robber. He has a career outside of GTA V, you know.
Steven should be far from internet if he does not like be called Trevor. He's like the actor of Spider-Man in the 00's, the first thought that kicks in your mind is PETER PARKER 😮
btw the cameo was him being asked to say hi to the gta 6 protagonists so maybe he was being honest about people seeing him as Trevor whilst also avoiding acknowledging the cameo question as it was before gta 6 leaks
As a big Trevor fan back when the game came out, I remember finding Steven's social media and quickly discovering 'oh hey he isn't a huge fan of Trevor. That's too bad.' Silently knowing he would have a similar fate to Young Maylay (read: being annoyed forever over a character they don't really even care that much for.) I understand his frustration: he is an actor, not a single character from one franchise. I'm bummed he's disappointed fans, though instead of taking their money he should put a clause on his cameo that he isn't interested in doing messages as Trevor. It's rude to take people's money then insult them. I really appreciate actors like Ned Luke, Shawn Fonteno, now Neil Newbon (Astarion) who LOVE their characters and are more than happy to humor fans. It just speaks to how fulfilled they are as actors, to truly appreciate how much people love their work.
I think the "cartoon character" doesn't communicate the way he feels correctly. He views Trevor as a larger than life maniac as you'd see in a cartoon, when you forget he's not super familiar with video games, it sounds disingenuous and childish, but in reality he's just struggling to articulate how he feels and doesn't understand all the terminology.
It is understandable that Steven Ogg has grew tired of being associated with Trevor since it seems people who are familiar with from the game, aren't too familiar with the other roles he's played in movies and tv shows. Video games are a more popular form of entertainment than movies are even at the time of GTA V's release after all. Since being associated with a character they play results in an actor risking to becoming type-cast to be offered to play the same or similar kind of characters. However, all of your clips of interview as well as using CorridorDigital GTA VR video where they got Steven to reprise his role as Trevor are not good examples. These were from 2014-2017 in which at the time, he was clearly receptive and tolerant of people associating him with Trevor. The controversy stemmed from his actions in cameo, which was in 2022, which is a considerable of time for Steven to start to sour more towards Trevor and potentially GTA V as a whole. You could have used a more recent example in a form of the Streamily GTA V Q&A which at the time of this video's release was only a couple or so months old. The stream does seem to show that he embraced Trevor, at least for the most part. But before hand, it was clear that he was very bitter about being associated with the character and has taken out that bitterness on fans, his actions on cameo back in 2022 indicate this well. But the problem with Steven was that he technically scammed those who paid him over $130 bucks by failing to do do what was paid of him to do, instead giving a half-assed job and complaining and whining on a tangent over the nature of the cameo request. Pretty genuinely scummy thing for an actor who made millions in his various actor roles.
People are leaving out the fact that this vid of steven was a cameo. Not a public statement of some sort. He didnt make a public statement, he stole a fan's money on cameo and sent the fan that video. He stole $180 from a fan. A fan asked him to say two custom lines as trevor, but steven mocked the fan instead. AND stole his money.
I get not wanting to be recognized as a "cartoon" when he is an actor in productions that are "real". However, I think he also understands that GTA V was, and forever will be, a cultural standout when it comes to entertainment in general and he's most likely glad to be a part of something so big. You can also argue it helps nothing that the character looks exactly like him in game.
He doesn’t hate Trevor. He hates the fact that it’s the only role that he’s mostly known for because he plays other roles and he’s a pretty good actor too
for context, imagine you did something admittedly pretty cool, 10 years ago, where were you ten years ago? imagine how...at least bored you would be hearing "DUDE THAT THING YOU DID ten years ago WAS AWESOME" like he's a real living breathing dude he wants to further his portfolio get new gigs and be known for something else other than that ONE thing, there was apparently one instance of him snapping at a fan, if true, dude should at least apologize, we all have bad days and the most innocuous of sht can send you a bit off the rails, again IF true, hope the best for him, I personally enjoyed him in TWD and BCS and wish him the best of luck
that makes rockstar a true one of a kind, they knew that steven ogg is a crazy man and he will fit perfectly for the role of trevor, crazy a a little bit funny angry smart wired but most important his paranoid and it's the same thing applies on steven ogg so the dude is mental for real and maybe tomorrow he'll say i love trevor i am sorry for what had said about him, and the very next day he'll say F trevor, now u know.
3:53 It's pretty insane and sorta speaks to people's unhealthy obsession with fictional characters, Steven doesn't need to embrace Trevor the same way as fans of the game too. He's entitled to feel how he wants to just like any of us and to guess how someone feels without any idea of how the person is off camera in a normal circumstance just based of interviews is extra crazy.
The only valid argument i have heard against him is that he doesn't really do what his cameo customers want when rhey ask him to talk about Trevor. Other than that i am 100% on stveens side. He doesn't owe anyone anything and hes perfectly allowed to he annoyed by 10+ years of people coming up to him asking him the same questions and making the same jokes. Hes a human being with his own thoughts and feelings towards things. Just because he isn't what you built him up to be in your head doesn't make him an asshole lol
My sister watches Walking Dead (I don’t) but doesn’t play video games. So she has no clue what I mean when I say “Hey that’s Trevor!” when I sometimes see Steven Ogg on it.
doe it though? he's always done before and after gta the same crazy asshats. you gonna tell me the favoutir, standout actor from the biggest game in the world ain't gonna have more than one opourity. tell that to robert pattison, daniel radcliffe, jonah hill, adam sandler, jim carrey, heath leder, robin williams.
This is the problem when the actor looks like his work. He portrayed Trevor so much that Trevor looks like a mirror image of him. It is a shame he just doesnt embrace it and play along like many other actors like Keanu Reeves or Rowan Atkinson among others. I mean, is not like people know his real name. People will relate an actor to their character's name as not everyone knows their name. People like Keanu knows that so they let it slide.
He's an amazing actor. His performance as Trevor was perfection, and the script he was given was amazing. It's impossible to imagine anyone else in this role. Similar to Shatner as captain kirk. Shatner hated being solely remembered for this role and later in life accepted and revelled in the fame. It's Ogg's greatest work.
He's dedicated to his work and he probably emphasizes every role he's played but the fact that he dislikes he's recognized as Trevor rather than the other work he's done is really off putting like bro you're a millionaire and very loved
Alot of people forget that when gta 5 was being made, Steven Ogg was not a well known actor. Rockstar is notorious for not paying voice actors much. He probably wasn't paid that much and never expected Trevor to be as famous as it became.
I think the video game world is just different than movies in general. Why should the actors get paid so much when there are also hundreds/thousands of devs who contribute way more hours of their lives making the game, we just don't see their face. They all play a part in making the game.
@@SoAaron_The actor who play Micah Bell looks exactly like the character in real life. All the actors in LA Noire look like the actors in real life. James Mccaffrey in Max Payne 3 looks just like the character in the game. Rockstar does make the actors look just like the characters many times with their motion capture. I expect them to do the same in GTA 6. Acting is just as important as the quality of the VFX. Same with Andy Serkis as Ceasar and Gollum or Bill Nighy as Davey Jones. Same with the actor who played Vaas in Far Cry 3. He wasn’t even supposed to be a major character but Micheal Mando’s acting convinced the devs they should make him a main villian.
@@SoAaron_ Making the character is a collaborative effort of writers, actors and animators. It is unfair to think that soley animator deserve more when it was all of skill of many people to make the characters.
@@petermj1098 Okay but I mean every single dev, so that is thousands in the case of GTA V and RDR2. Each dev spends thosuands of hours over several years making the game. I understand acting isn't easy either but they have around 100+ hours of voice acting for V then idk how much more of motion capture. Its certainly not close to the average dev. So I can understand actors getting paid not a lot but still a somewhat decent amount when you factor in every dev's salary.
He's a method actor reason why his work in GTAV is so iconic and loved by many, and sadly after the game he's has moved on since GTAV since Steven Ogg gotten other roles. He's ok to go back to the role as seen, but he only treats it as a job and wants to be recognized as Steven Ogg the actor, the person behind those characters he played.
Honestly, I think his reaction in that one camio is like if Bryan Cranston got mad over people addressing him as walter white, or will smith as the fresh prince of bel air. It's really not that different of an experience from what actors in big TV shows go through after their big break wraps up production
Actors often fight against this kind of thing. He's a working actor in actively search of new roles, and doesn't want casting directors to see him as purely one job he had 14 years ago. One day, he'll learn to embrace it. After all, the are 1 million actors in the USA. How many of them EVER get to do anything of note, let alone be responsible for the greatest and most iconic performance of all time.
Honestly i would love to see any performance from Steven. I only know him from gta 5 but the range of emotions he portrays there is just insane. Going from 0 to 300 in the blink of an eye in such a believeable manner is just insane voice-/acting performance in my opinion. I very rarely find game characters (heck, even movie characters for that matter) to be likeable especially when the character in question is such a crazy lunatic who could potentially kill everybody if the wind changes direction at the wrong time but Steven/Trevor managed to do this for me. Don't get me wrong Franklyn and Micheal were great characters and did awesome jobs aswell but for me Steven/Trevor carried all the momentum of the story, his sudden outbursts which could lead to the termination of entire gangs while still caring about those who are close to him are just something special. Every mission which he was involved in felt like something special.
The actors who play Michael and Franklin basically confirmed that he doesn’t like to be associated with the character at all, they also said they don’t appreciate the way he treats his fans
Steven communicates quite clearly, why do so many people draw so much BS out of it. Just for the sake of creating a controversy? By embarassing because you didn't listen? I don't get it, thanks for your video :D
I think them making the character look like him so much is really making the character stick to him. Especially for everyone who's first introduction of him came from GTA5.
Maybe I’m just on something, but wasn’t there a controversy around the time of rdr2 release where people hated the actor that played micah because of micahs character? Maybe I’m not remembering something correctly
I think he doesn't hate Trevor ,but he hates that he is associated with him by alot of people abit shadowing his amazing actor carreer in movies and tv series
I mean i get that he want to be recogised as steven and not trevor, but i still would love a comback as trevor in gta online or gta 6. Give him a 4th wall break where he screams that everything is a cartoon or something
I think he's probably weirded out by the fact people are still talking about the character 11 years later. As an outsider he probably thinks the rest of the gaming world has long since moved on from GTA V and it's just a small cult of weird, obsessive fans that have an unhealthy interest in this psycho character. In reality, GTA is so big and popular that players only really move on when the next one comes out. I'm in the middle of replaying it for about the 6th time right now. When GTA VI finally does come out the cameo requests for all three actors will probably drop off pretty hard all together.
I thinkSteven knows what he signed up for and I don’t think he hates Trevor and it doesn’t seem like he’s not gonna take rockstar calls again. I guess he just wants to be known from his different acting sources instead of just being Trevor, which if I were in his shoes, I would not want to be a sociopath killer as like my only acting that everybody remembers of, but if it ever comes down to Stephen Ogg, just getting another call to do the role again I don’t think he wouldn’t mind as long as it was just a one last time thing which I do thinkthe three guys will return on the very last DLC before GTA six release because rockstar is not gonna end this game without a big bang because of the amount of money and effort they went into this compared to their other games
The story i heard was Steven Ogg hated Trevor Philips because he didn't like being known only as Trevor. As it can negatively effect job opportunities as an actor. I believed it because such a thing happened with Tobey Maguire with spider man.

It just internet being internet, thats more the reason why i have entirely stopped watching essays, reviews etc.
You are probably right, but it makes you look ungrateful when GTA V is his biggest role and he complains to the fans
@@Bluberyline827i don’t think GTA Online can be considered canon. Most of it doesn’t make sense
For real. If I had to deal with children and neckbeards constantly wanting me to do weird stuff for the sake of being Trevor, I’d get annoyed too.

I thought Ray Liotta (Tommy Vercetti) was the reason Rockstar stopped hiring A-List celebs
@@PliskinYT Ray was partly the reason why they stopped, the other part was Burt. They both did not understand/respect video games and how they could be used as entertainment.
Burt Reynolds can't have thought it was _that_ much beneath him, given that he did Saints' Row: The Third in 2011.

And guess, he always acts like Trevor 💀
Me personally I see him more as Simon from TWD, I enjoyed him more as that character than Trevor tbh
Well unfortunately that’s too bad for him because he will always be Trevor. He just has to accept it.
No he literally does hate GTA and Trevor you're literally just too stupid fanboy.
Pretty sure he just wants to be recognized for his other works
Like Rainn Wilson only being recognized as Dwight from the office
Same with most actors; they just want to be recognized for them; not the one character out of the tens or hundreds they may have played in the past
No actor wants to be pigeon holed into one role, or one character
Yeah the hell do you expect thats your most famous character it’s like Vin Diesel been mad that he’s been recognized as Dominic Toretto not the guy from triple X some actors like Samuel L Jackson are recognized because they’re Samuel L Jackson, some actors like James Gandolfini are recognized for their characters a.k.a. Tony soprano he said multiple times are people think he would act totally like him, but he was actually the opposite total sweet awesome gentleman guy but people thought since he played Tony, he would act like Tony that’s the same thing with Steven and yes, he was in The Walking Dead as Simon, and the one thug from better call Saul, but in both of those television shows he still had the Trevor demeanor he embodies Trevor whether he likes it or not
Adam Wests Batman.
I don’t get it because if he never played Trevor his acting career never would have took off
Johnny depp doesn't seem to mind it
I think it's terrible when people recognize him in public and just say "HEY TREVOR!" Instead of, "Hey you're Steven Ogg. You're one of my favorite actors!"
It should be common courtesy to address an actor by their actual name first, and then segway into talking about their roles after.

He doesn’t hate Trevor, he hates the fact that people call him Trevor and treat him as if he is Trevor. I think he is worried he will be typecasted or be a one hit wonder as an actor. Steven Ogg is a talented actor and deserves more legitimate work.

It would honestly piss me off too.
the guy just wanted to be treated like himself, i mean just look at 6:37 "How about just a hug man?" you can tell that he doesn't want to act and behave violent because of his acting in GTA V, and he would rather be chill and be Steven Ogg than Trevor Phillips
i felt bad for him
Just like the cast of red dead 2, Stephen Ogg, Ned Luke, and Shawn Fonteno aren't just voice actors.
Steven Ogg dosent hate trevor, but it was said that he wants to be recognized not only as Trevor.
He wasnt putting anything down. Steven is smart n well spoken
Steven Ogg as Trevor is one of the best performances ever
He doesn't hate Trevor he hates the way fans treat him as if he's only ever gonna be valid as Trevor and will never be recognized for anything else he has done. He goes on the walking dead as Simon, "OMG TREVOR IS ON THE WALKING DEAD WHY ISNT HE THE BIG BAD INSTEAD OF NEGAN?" or he shows up on better call Saul "OMG ITS TREVOR WHY IS HE NOT DOING CRAZY THINGS?"
If there's any hatred of Trevor from him it's directly the fans fault.
The thing that's odd to me is he claims to know nothing about the game world yet makes the distinction between him and the character he stomps out being from separate games..
I mean he probably asked someone or someone told him who johnny was.
Jesus Christ calm down... Idk what he did to you but that's just making up bullshit
The cameo was after the GTA 6 leaks
Ogg and Walton Goggins need to do a meth version of fight club
Boyd and Trevor havoc? yes indeed
I'm only concerned about the cameo situation because he got paid for not showing the character he played
Steven is an amazing actor. I’d love to see him take on more roles in big films.
0:30 YO THats me in the chat
1:02 did mf just say childhood was running around the playground with guns 😭🙏
😂 water guns probably
"jgda-a" Is all I hear when you say "GTA"
This may sound crazy, but gta v net worth is $8.5 billion, which is more than Game of Thrones net worth $3.1billion
262 comments as of now and I feel like 200 of them are the very same thing just written slightly different. Is this the dead internet?
you missed the clip of steven at 2013 comic con were someone asks him to curse at them and does
I feel like also he gets type casted. Another reason why he has a lot of displacement for the character.
I do not think he hates him but hates the fact that everyone recognises him has Trevor n he’s a kind guy.
He definitely needs to understand the fact of how big gta is and the fact he'll never have a role bigger than that he is Trevor forever
My sister watches Walking Dead (I don’t) but doesn’t play video games. So she has no clue what I mean when I say “Hey that’s Trevor!” when I sometimes see Steven Ogg on it.
lots of actors dislike being known for only one role, Steven Ogg has more to offer than Trevor.
doe it though? he's always done before and after gta the same crazy asshats. you gonna tell me the favoutir, standout actor from the biggest game in the world ain't gonna have more than one opourity. tell that to robert pattison, daniel radcliffe, jonah hill, adam sandler, jim carrey, heath leder, robin williams.
Ned and Shawn being excited to be a part of the game while Steven is like "...I don't get it." feels... oddly in character.
yo that guy looks like trevor from gta just me?????
Anyone remember Steven Ogg play as Trevor in that GTA 5 Online In Real Life video by Corridor Digital? He embraced the character to a point.
@@petermj1098 Yeah I know all this, what does it change about my comment?
1:06 " running around the playground with guns" relatable.
5:38 He didn't *really* have a roll in Better call Saul. He was in 2 episodes as an unnamed character.
HugoOne
More than just "that guy".
Some respect on the name
I think he doesn't hate Trevor ,but he hates that he is associated with him by alot of people abit shadowing his amazing actor carreer in movies and tv series
Doesn't help that they made the character look exactly like him, only crazier 😂
Steven has been known as Trevor by people for longer than Michael was retired and hiding from Trevor, think about that
I mean i get that he want to be recogised as steven and not trevor, but i still would love a comback as trevor in gta online or gta 6. Give him a 4th wall break where he screams that everything is a cartoon or something
0:11 one word, money
He hates being called Trevor, because thats not who he is.
He is Steven Ogg, have the decency to call him by his name.
If I ever request a Steven Ogg cameo, I’ll respect his wishes and refer to him as Steven
5:30 this is a Cameo, someone paid him to say this
I thinkSteven knows what he signed up for and I don’t think he hates Trevor and it doesn’t seem like he’s not gonna take rockstar calls again.
