Usually in a (rock) song, somewhere in the middle the singing is interrupted by a guitar solo. But here the guitar solo IS the song, and somewhere in the middle it is interrupted by singing.

Just when you think that Brian can't break your heart any more with that guitar, then Freddie comes in in the middle and breaks it some more with those lyrics....
This is why Brian May is the best. Simply stunning, the playing, the timing, everything, even the pauses between the notes are perfect. Hardly anyone knows this song but everyone should. Brian May outdid himself on this track. No one could play a guitar with more emotion than him! It's so exquisitely beautiful, haunting and somber all at the same time. I hear the anguish with each note, each riff and cord. Then Freddie's vocals come in and you can feel & hear the heartache and the sadness. The lyrics make sense knowing this song was a collaboration between Brian and Freddie. While all of the band members were close, i think Freddie and Brian balanced each other beautifully with Freddie's vocals and Brian's guitar playing. To know you are going to lose that after 20 years is beyond heartbreaking and you can hear it in this song. :(
This song has always made me cry by the sheer beauty and sound of the guitar, which almost sings a song on it's own. Brian May, one of the best guitarists on the planet.

Sad to hear Jeff Beck passed away January 10th, 2023. I watched Brian remember him in a video just now and he said to listen to Where Were You from Jeff Beck and I did. Well, I can clearly see the inspiration Brian had when he wrote Bijou on the Innuendo album from 1991. Forget about the cat (I have a cat myself, and I love her)! To me, this is about anyone you have a bond with. This song brings tears to my eyes every single time Freddie starts to sing. I love it. Thanks, Mercury, May, Deacon, Taylor.... Queen!
