wish me luck going for Louisiana state board tomorrow
+Tiffany Williams Good luck! How did you do?
We used to do the paper on the other side for the exam before it changed in September: you can still do that, if you want, or have been taught that way.
Thank you for doing the demo because this answer my question about the smoothing of the hair this demo would apply to Utah too. This demo give me more confidence for Utah State board.
stateboard in three days. I'm so nervous yet excited
Good luck!
+BeautyHealthTravel thank you
@luvNique4ever Yes, it is considered a color (the virgin hair to lighten) and it is the same application as the relaxer; easy. I had to memorize all 5 color applications for my test; you guys are lucky!
Good question! At this time, for California test we only apply protective cream around the hairline. We used to base the hairline and the scalp before, but now we only do it for real clients, not at state board.
@salvacaballos Thank you so much for your advice and the insight of the exam. Congratulations on getting your cosmetology license! Best of luck with your career.
Good luck Danielles..... i didn't know they give it on Saturdays..... i am getting ready myself.
@LillyFromTheBlock1 Thank you for your tip on cholesterol cream; yes, it is more slippery and it is hard to work with.
California (don't know if it's different in other states)
Front right - Virgin Lightener
Back right - Tint (color) Retouch
Back Left - Virgin Relaxer
Front left - Relaxer Retouch
Going to state board December 16th!
It's like this in Arizona too! Thanks for commenting the sections! (: Good luck! My date is next week on December fourth!
***** Good luck with your test!
BeautyHealthTravel Thanks so much! Your videos are helping a ton!♥
***** You welcome!
I noticed she said it doesn't matter. It definitely does in California.
Super super appericate this!!!!!!!! your a better help then my teacher, please continue to upload ^_^!!!!! your super awsome!!!
@BeautyHealthTravel pls keep making vids they are so helpful (stateboard)
@taniamgranados You're right, their instructions said 1/4 inch off the scalp, but that is slightly anyway.
I totally agreeeee with the last comment I find this sooooooooooooo helpful pls pls pls keep uploading more of stateboard pls
Texas. ..
Front left 1/8 retouch, back left 1/2 no base relaxer, back right 1/4 virgen tint
I would like to see the relaxer place on with an application bottle... I think its an ideal way to self- relax w/o overlap.
thanks
This was very helpful. I live in Missouri and I would like to know do we have to use one mannequin for our virgin color/color retouch and virgin relaxer/relaxer retouch
@shakeenbake777 Yes, one color and retouch, relaxer and retouch, and a perm; separately.
@TheJuJuBeebb You welcome!
For state boards that adapted NIC test procedures; California is one of them.
Hello, I have my test coming up in a couple weeks. I was trained the old way so i had a couple questions. How often do you redrape the client? Do you wet the hair in the sink at all or just with a water bottle? Do you rinse or wet hair after color or relaxer of do you just leave it and move to a different section? Thanks for your videos, They have definitely made me more confident in re learning this.
It is better to part the hair for haircutting for control; section the hair to 4 sections, and you can leave the guideline. There is a state board haircutting video in this channel, it will help you to do the procedure.
Look for Haircut for state board test: razor and scissors
@TheJuJuBeebb For California, haircut is done by establishing a razor guideline on the nape are, and layering up the back section with razor, followed by the scissors. Don't worry about the precision, although they check it, it is only worth 2 points. Yes, you need to practice, but it doesn't mean that your teachers need to terrify you with a Vidal Sassoon result. Just layer haircut; first with razors, then with scissors. I will try to do a brief video, but, please, give me time.
Do the razor cut on wet hair, cut above your fingers, and follow your guide. Also check the kit companies and training offered by them for Virginia State Board.
please show the sections you are working on, i cant tell from the video whether you are working at the front or the back of the head:(
Me gustaria k alguien haga todo el examen ptactico completo pa las personas .k aplican x experiencia.las de emos ser empoderadas tambien .gracias todo bien ecplicado y pas a paso.
should there be a bonnet or a sma paper on the other side to protect the rest of the hair instead of laying the saturated hair over the other side ?
its not four sections and then "any way you like". You start at the front right side section with :virgin tint to lightening, then back right side: color retouch. Then the back left is next with virgin relaxer, then left front is relaxer retouch. So you start on the right and go back to front. Just FYI
so the virgin hair lighting is not considered a bleach but a color? so apply the virgin hair lightening application the same way as we would the virgin hair relaxer right? 1/2 in away from the scalp up to not including the last 1 inch of hair
thanks so much for the info
So when you step back for the relaxer retouch, do you keep same gloves on and wait till she comes to ask to show smoothing? Or do we throw away gloves from Aplication, and when she comes put new gloves??
so this will be the only color on the test virigin relaxer/retouch and the chemical straightening or perm?
I was Sassoon trained, and we aren't allowed to razor cut, but now will be taking the practical in Virginia, how exactly do they want the cut done?
How many mannequins do you need for the entire NIC cosmetology test 2013?
Thankyou !!! so no strand test?
this video is helping i take state board today 😊
good luck
HI
So i can still do round layer for state board right? does anything change at all? can you do brief video about haircuting please?
Ps no strand test n do we clean our implements before the instructor makes us demonstrate the smoothing part of the exam or after?????
WOW
THANK YOU SO MUCH
your the best =)
Is this the requirements for all states or a specific state? TIA
Once you are done, you are done applying, so don't worry about the gloves.
Shaving cream works better for me, since it is not so heavy as cholesterol.
What product are u using to apply? Shampoo? What works best? I feel like conditioner is too slippery . Your videos are the best!
Thank you: I am using shaving cream for state board test.
can someone please tell me how hard the state board is? i just did the relaxer retouch and virgin bleach and it took me like 25 minutes for both and i’m fairly certain i failed it
Just keep practicing, and visit your state's board website for information on timing. The more you practice and visualize that you have passed the test, the more confident you will feel. Good luck!
how is that a retouch? its not on the scalp
i sing sometimes , you can not put a relaxer on the scalp, it will give the client chemical burns.
Dezi Lue that’s the whole point of a retouch tho
hey can somebody tell me why they leave ends without applying product
Because the ends are porous and will get damaged fast, so the product is applied to the ends last.
@TheRocknrollqueen19 OK
@TheRocknrollqueen19 Afterwards. First finish the whole procedure, and let the examiner watch you smooth the relaxer retouch, and then place the implements in the soiled implement container. You don't have to sanitize them, just place them in the container and cover the lid. Easy, yes?
thanks again for all your videos happy new yea=)
Thank you! Happy New Year to you too!
We do that in California: one mannequin and 4 sections
Is this updated for 2016 state board barber testing?
Loving your pink ring...:)
huh i thought that they said slighty off the scalp???
Wish me luck I am going for my Massachusetts state board this Saturday!
Good luck! I didn't know they had testing on Saturdays.
where I can find this instructions, because I'm out of State and was graduated in 1978, please help me , my test is in August 29
You can find them at the official state board website in a pdf form. We have the procedures at this site, too, but they are in segments for each one. We also have the whole theory class and the tests; look them up in our playlists. Good luck!
Thank you so very much.
You welcome!
I'm nervous tomorrow I will have my state board 😬
Do you guys do the 4 sections. One is relaxer one is color or highlights or a than one would be the cut or perm etc.... I'm taken my Pennsylvania boards on the 10th of Feb.. I have to retest so I'm going in it on a pray. The beauty schools around here will not give me this info.. All I know is they do 4 sections and u get 8 out of 14 things.. If anyone can help please let me know asap.. Tyvm..
This works for California; one section is for color, one for color re-touch, one for relaxer, and the last one for relaxer-retouch. If you want to know for sure what works for your state, visit their website; also visit the kit companies providing practical test kits; they usually have free classes once you rent their kit.
I contacted a Kit company they didn't offer any class sadly. I passed the written with your videos. I feel good about taken the test I'm not one for surprises.. I haven't tested in 17 yes. Keep the videos updated there awesome and have help greatly..
Only one is enough if it has the right length; usually shoulder length mannequin.
You welcome!
I gotta be the asshole and ask everybody WHY this is on my BARBER exam?!?!?
Does this application apply to black hair too
Yes, this applies to anyone who has curly hair and wants to make it straight.
Is this what they are looking for in every state? I worry about how long to spend on each step
casey smith On the website for your state's state board they would have some instructions for students, and it will arrive in your appointment letter also, so please check your state's website for state board, and if you have kit companies there, they would help, too.

She is applying 1 inch not 1/2 from scalp.
Wish me luck . April 28 / 16 . this do this ...
+www.Gallardohairdesign.com Best of luck to you tomorrow!
STATEBOARD TOMORROW AHHH
Good luck!
Please be careful when you tell others that it does not matter which side you apply because here in Missouri, color and relaxer is exclusive to one side and if you get it wrong you will fail. Good video however.
exactly! you have to know which section
Sherrie Cooper Yep!!
Confirmed. Because here in North Carolina you must memorize which side to do what. and if you complete the wrong process on the wrong quadrant they will deduct major pointa
+Christina Nguyen yes I do, you need to know?
+Christina Nguyen right front is virgin color, right back color retouch, left front is relaxer retouch, and left back is virgin replaxer.
