I'm not sure what to do about the living and how much longer the 🍄 probably is the new Start to the.bee season...., Yes they are growing so fast and I want to see if they can
Beginning beekeeper from Murfreesboro here. I installed my packages 18 days ago. I checked my hives today - I have TONS of capped brood and found the queen. I consider my day a success. Do you prefer to have your hives in the sun or the shade?
Sounds like a successful day to me! I prefer my colonies in partial shade. Sunny for several hours and then shaded for a few. If I had to choose between full shade or full sun I would go full sun.
I've seen others with that style lid with the heavier avantech material but I've always wondered why not make it a bit larger and put the four strips on the under side mimicking a telescopic lid.
Looking forward to the video with the split, I was thinking that was What I would have done, given you had got the queen in for the genetics! Great video.
some packages make queen cells spent last summer cutting them out of one,the queen was laying like crazy when i got enough bees i used one to make a nuc
You are right when you say they need feed. but just so everyone knows, that colony is new and probably hasn't got enough forager bee to bring in as much stores as an established hive would. we all live in different financial stages of life. Some need help while other can help boost.
im dealing w dwv ,late treating see if they make it ,using johnos vap,3 oa treats so far, hard to see bees w no wings ,makes me sad ,and angry at myself for not treating earlier
I will just keep the mite levels low. Getting into the summer I will show how we go about treat the mites who spread those viruses around. At this point we have no treatments for viruses just the mites who spread and carry them
Kamon your a believer in not interfering with a supercedure? I have a colony that is in a two deep with a medium super which their working on, next to a double with 3 supers nearly full. The small colony has probably 8 capped queen cells, how long should I wait to make sure the colony remains queen right? Should I expect an inferior daughter and purchase a queen from a proven breeder? Thank you
Oh I interfere. Supersedure queens can be very good queens. Emergency queens is what I don't want. How I typically interfere with a supersedure is to make small split with a good queen cell. This is primarily to give me a greater chance of having at least one queen return. Many times the queen does come back. Occasionally they do not. Insurance policy colonies are a good back up plan.
They are in the upper and back filling the lower will pollen and nectar, l was thinking I would reverse the brood boxes but all the queen cells are in the upper. I’m feeding 1:1 and patties to keep them productive as we’re entering our dearth. Theses were packages in April.
Good video .The viruses caused from those nasty mites have changed beekeeping. Anyone not treating doent have much of a chance. To me honey bee,s are livestock .They need to be monitored for mites and disease. And have proper nutrition for a healthy gut.🐝safe and keep your smoker lit. Konrad
Another great video brotha! I started my own channel as a newbie! Please check out my installation video and let me know what you think! If you like it a quick shout out on your channel would be greatly appreciated! Keep the dad jokes coming!
Lost my voice the day before at the festival..... My wife said she appreciated the break. 😑

Are you still in the morning finding the new baby so, did the same thing happen at my mom's house??
Thanks again! Didn't know bee larvae could be affected that way! :(

Once you treat the honey bees how long does it take to find dead mites if there is any

You can, it is difficult to pry without the inner cover though

How do you treat for mites?
Apiguard, oxalic acid vapor, oxalic acid dribble, and I tried some apivar last year with ok results
@@kamonreynolds Thank you great vids keep it up.
@@stevesoutdoorworld4340 Stevo and Kamon, 2 of my favorite YTers. All in one place. I love it.
Cool

What will you use to treat for the DWV?

@@kamonreynolds You showed us one bee with DWV--were there others in there?
I'm seeing deformed wing in one of my biggest hives now, so I'm pretty upset. I'm knocking the mites down with Apiguard right now.
Hey Kamon, new bee keeper here. Can varroa mite infestation cause K Wing?

Ok, I’ve watched your videos of making splits, I’ll give it a try.
How big is the smaller colony?
10 frames in a double deep

Monitor and treat when necessary. I have Minnesota Hygienic Queens and they keep the varroa below the treatment threshold in my hives.
What city are y’all in? Thanks for the videos from you and your wife.
