Thank you for being so clear, thorough, and organized in your presentations. Best master beekeeper teacher I have experienced yet. Thank you for taking the time to share your knowledge.
I'm glad you mentioned, green grass in the smoker. I always put a handful of green grass or weeds over lit smoker fuel, inorder to cool the smoke. Also glad that you mentioned, the fact once you are stung it's not just important to remove the stinger, but hide the alarm pheromone!!! Great information that I never hear given to the new beekeepers. Grea information here .
You had a beautiful assistant today. Love her bee suit! Too cute. I’m guessing that was your daughter. Thanks for another great video. Kamon, good morning from Lugoff, SC. Been enjoying your videos and knowledge for about six months now. I'm in my fourth year of beekeeping and find your wit and wisdom to be quite refreshing. I saw this post about Albert Zook in Lawrenceburg the other day and wanted to pass on my experiences with him. Some of my first hives came from Albert. Then during my second year of beekeeping I drove from here in South Carolina to his place to meet him and pick up a couple more hives. He makes his hives out of cypress wood, which when sealed with a number of coats of tung oil, provide a beautiful hive to have in ones yard. When I watched your video of box dipping, I didn't realize they came from Albert. He is very humble about his craft, and surprisingly young, at least to a 65 year old man. It was a pleasure to have met him, and a pleasure to spend time watching and learning from you. Best of luck in your future endeavors. I wish for you and your family a blessed and Merry Christmas and much good luck in the New Year.
Hey Don thanks for the kind words and you a right, Albert is a great fellow to talk to and get equipment from. Hope you have a great bee season to come, and Merry Christmas from the Reynolds family!

I try to wait until I have $100 dollar order for the free shipping from Mann Lake. It's really cheaper for me to buy boxes and frames than to make them. I still make migratory covers, shims, screened bottom boards, screened inner covers, solar powered and non power ventilation boxes.
For the mann lake customers. There is a disclaimer in their shipping policy where they just do "whatever is best for the company". If one item on your order is back-ordered they can, at their discretion, put a hold on an entire order. I got screwed big time at a bad time. I never did get my ultra bee that I ordered in march 2019. Their policy effed me good. Dadant has free shipping on orders over $100. Dadant manufactures some of the items mann lake sells. I have comb that is 6+ years old. It was part of the feral hive that was removed from an abandoned house. The comb was banded into foundationless frames. The bees anchored it in. They lay in it every year.
I have never ever seen or heard of bees tearing down old comb and replacing with new, some say the queens prefer new comb to lay in but i don't know as i have never asked her 😆 What i have noticed is bees seam to overwinter better on older comb. Kamon..you mentioned in this video that not all swarm cells are at the bottom but could be on the sides or face of the frame. You said to take them out to avoid swarming, but maybe they are supersedure cells and if you eliminate them all then you might become queenless. Almost all my hives (13) superseded their 2019 queens. Our honey is really mild and smooth and we have a decent bit around so I would have to say it can't be really strong but we do blend all our honey together so maybe so..... I'm not sure
That is what I have heard for 16 years but I don't see reduction at this point. Also, many claim that the bees natural size is smaller 4.9mm instead of the 5.2-5.4 mm that is used for the average foundation. If that was the case then they should do better with it getting smaller. There are alot of papers and "studies" going one way or the other and I read them but the folks I listen to these days are the ones who have kept bees alive and thriving for decades (since they have boots on the ground and it is not easy) most of them use combs for much longer than a couple years. Just my opinion. Thanks for watching!

They likely won't kill each other but sometimes it does happen. The nurse bees will waltz in Everytime. The forager will fly back home but it is not there. They will either find another colony or get the boot
Nucs is short for nucleus colony. I think it is a poor term but goodness so is the term honey "super" I imagine they were called nucleus colonies since they are a small hive. Got to love all the weird lingo in beekeeping
Really enjoy your work, Kamon. I'm a sideline beekeeper with about 150 colonies and have to say you remind me of me... Albeit, a younger better looking version of me. Anyway, regarding queens laying in queen cells: I've often thought perhaps, since the cups are almost always present but rarely used, that, maybe, the queen has an instinctive aversion to laying in a cup where she has to lay in an upward orientation. Therefore only doing so when she has nowhere else to lay due to everything else already occupied, thus triggering swarm mode. Like your version of the eggs being cannibalized, I have so scientific evidence for my version either. Just another idea. Again, really enjoy your work.
Yes and that is due to guys like me switching years ago to Mann lake for their better frames, service and products. Kelley's 16 years ago was different but they were not managed well and they lost alot of big customers because they were behind the times. I don't like that Mann lake has so much control but they do provide alot of products I need!
I don't understand you gave brood box 2 unwax frame in the middle of brood area. Wax bees age 12-18 they work chain shape on frame this stop traffic brood area disturbing nurse bees. Nurse bees kicked them don't let them work in wax bees. Because they are feeding looking eggs. This main objection hives. You are making big mistake I think. You have to put unwax frame 2 and 9 number..
hey caveman: play some music for 2 days straight and don't look at your bees. Bluegrass is ok, but not rap. no rap your bees would be better if you play one note of rap you wil begin to deteriorate physically. 100 straight days of nothing but bees and 2 days of bluegrass. sweet kamon.

Mann lake frames all day!
mann lake is running kelly now
Yes and that is due to guys like me switching years ago to Mann lake for their better frames, service and products.
Not "large" but rather, aristocratic. An aristocratic nose.
I am going to mention this to my wife!
@@kamonreynolds :)
:-D :-D
Does that make to opinions aristocratic?
And i have snow on the ground and some fragile nucs :(
Sorry about that make sure they have some feed if they need it!
Is it true you hand picked that nose? I love seeing your rug rats in your video's. Please keep them coming.
hey caveman: play some music for 2 days straight and don't look at your bees. Bluegrass is ok, but not rap. no rap your bees would be better if you play one note of rap you wil begin to deteriorate physically. 100 straight days of nothing but bees and 2 days of bluegrass. sweet kamon.
