This isn't an HD2 killer either, but Darktide is a lot better than SM2 imo. Also, a big issue I have with SM2 is that you can get used to certain weapon combo's in the campaign that you can no longer continue to use once you hit the operations/endgame. Doesn't feel good hitting that wall.
My main issue right now with SM 2 is that you automatically gets assigned to a team, that you are unable to avoid joining and if the team leader feels pissy so can he kick you after half the mission and deny you any rewards. That really ruins your day when that happens.
The fact it was called a helldivers killer in the first place just shows the state of the industry. People cant just enjoy games anymore and always have to compare and debate who's game is best. Just more pseudo-political tribalism bs.

Sm2 is more of left 4 dead 2/40k darktide type of game not sure if you guys ever played those type of games. Now as for helldivers 2 I feel like Arrowhead was able to successfully change the viewpoint of the player from top down to thirdperson from those types of games. I think this type of game has always or for the most part have been topdown viewpoint like helldivers 1 and red solstice 2. I think most people thought sm2 was a helldivers 2 killer was because people got feed up with the nerfs and saw sm2 as new thirdperson horde shooter, not realizing it was going to be something like left 4 dead 2. Helldivers 2 thirdperson viewpoint also probably help it expand to the wider audience. If it was topdown might not have exploded as much.
The Operations there is friendly fire. The Campaign seems to be there for the cinematic effect while the Operations forces that team coordination you want.
As a helldiver with 416 hours in HD2, I will admit having a predisposition that it'd be something like HD2 which is wrong. Now I'm trying to enjoy it realising its two different games, its only infuriating with the crashes so I can't play it properly. Now I've gotten back to HD2, and I've gotten into a much greater appreciation after playing space marines 2. Sure after a few missions it gets repetitive. However, the experience is different each time, its map is open, the way the mission can go can either go very well, from very well to down south, to impossible to pulling a win in the end. You can experiment with load outs and such. And what you've pointed out is, SM2 is too linear. I too will give it more chances, but the crashes need to stop, only managed to get 2 / 8 operation attempts with that. But now my love for HD2 has been revitalized and am looking forward to the big update this 17th.
The aesthetic of Space Marines always hit me funny. The metal bell bottoms just don't do it for me. I tried to get pumped for it but couldn't. Every time I tried to click purchase, those bell bottoms flashed through my brain.

It's ridiculous for anybody to claim that Space Marine 2 is even similar to HellDivers 2. Its game mechanics are very similar to the first game. The exception is the operations game mode. It reminds me of all the content creators talking about Hell Divers 2 while completely ignoring the first Hell Divers. It would be like comparing Hell Divers to Left 4 Dead.
I'm not sure why there is a perception the SM2 was ever supposed to be a Helldivers 2 killer. Whoever you are listening to that was pitching that idea is probably not worth paying attention to. You could simply look at the first game and see that's not what this game was ever going to be. It was never marketed that way. I think most people recognized that this was more in line with the Tide (dark/vermin), and even that's not exactly a one-to-one comparison. Secondly, combat is definitely what you want it to be. If you want to play a shooter, you absolutely can. tactical, heavy, and sniper almost never need to be involved in melee combat. I consistently finish operations with those 3 classes and have 100ish melee damage to 20k+ ranged damage. If it's not your cup of tea, that is what it is. But, let's not act like the combat is bad, it's just a combat style that doesn't fit in your profile. Last, hating on a game for a level design choice that doesn't meet your palate of open world games is just wild. Not every game needs to be open world. This game also just wouldn't work in an open world. The compact nature of levels is meant to force engagements into a more frantic and claustrophobic encounter. Just look at Tide games, very narrow level design. Again, if it aint for you, it aint for you. Not here to bring hate, just a bit confused on hating on design choices that don't align with your opinions. I can agree that matchmaking is bad, content is a bit lacking, but overall the game is stupid fun. Also, discord is available on every platform. Not sure why we're trying to use in game chat like it's 2005.
Like I've said on another YT channel I was never into the WOW and 40K artstyle so that automatically didn't piqued my interest. But I would be willing to play it one day when it's on sale cause I do like how the animations were done. I think Helldivers's aspect and the players involvement in the mission is what makes it special despite it's problems. Plus I'm a sucker for anything that has HALO vibes. Just like Elden Ring brings me back to the days when I played Ocarina of time as a kid.
I'd compare this game to God of War. I never bought the God of War games, but I might get this. Possibly only because seeing seeing the Guards brings the Halo instinct of saving as many marines as possible. If I don't color my space marine to be a helldiver, I'm definitely going to be playing as a Salamander.
The gameplay is definitely not a traditional 3rd person shooter; it’s more of a sword fighting game with power ups like ghost of Tsushima with guns. Also, there is a steep learning curve on the fight mechanics
I just got the game yesterday. I only played 30 minutes so far but this game is not a helldivers killer. I did play the first one years ago when it came out. These are two very different games this is more akin to gears of war. I'm kind of upset I got the Gold edition I wish I could do what I just got the regular edition. Because once I get past the story I might do some PVE but I don't see myself getting it to all that grinding. And I'm never touching the PVP that's not my deal.
You guys are in for a shock when you get into operations lol. Once you play the 3rd and 4th difficulties it gets very difficult. Enemies are sponges and your space marines are very weak in comparison. And I wouldn't worry about PVP your not missing out on much
@@davidponder1654I'm might be a bit bias as I'm not a lover of PVP games more of a PVE player. Probably because I suck at PVP lol. Glad your enjoying it though.
@@SaltyNerdGaming As BRICKY put it: quote "the PVP feels unfinished and half backed. But it SLAPS!" Like the Classes themselves are well balanced vs Each other, each one countering another class. Guns have to cut though your armor bars before doing hp damage, Melee ignores armor and goes straight for your HP bar. But the PVP itself is pretty bare bones with only 3 MODES and 3 MAPS!
I must agree with you guys. I’m not having fun with it. I’d rather play Gears Of War. Which I thought it kinda looked like with what game footage I saw.
I can’t believe that they made this, which I do like, and haven’t brought Darktide to PS5 yet…While I do absolutely enjoy this game it is not a Helldivers killer. Could it contend? With a lot more content. There’s little to no procedural generation so we have little replayability imo. I believe that Warhammer 40K could be easily loved but from a lore perspective there’s a lot and there’s certainly gate keeping in that community. I am absolutely waiting for someone to pull their head out of their butt and bring Darktide over.
I haven't been having fun either with sm2. I kinda like the campaign but i feel like once im done with that I'll uninstall it. Excited for the buffs in hd2 next week.
I have fun with sm2. But totally understand why you don’t like it. Helldivers 2 is still my main and favorite game. Also have a lot of performance problems. And I upgraded my pc for this game. So that part real pissed me off.
the campaign was fun, the operations are fun.. ..once or twice i thoroughly enjoyed SM2 and don't regret buying it but it's not one i'll play frequently, maybe once a week or so i'll hop on with da boyz and run some operations or through the campaign for the hell of it but that's about it
I can parry the little dudes fine but it goes whack on anything bigger. It seems like I’m always in the middle of some other fight or task and timing that damn trigger (ps5) in time just never happens. I’m in the just roll/ dodge crowd. And, spamming roll for half of a level is annoying.
My favorite part of Friday 😎 Hell nah it ain't killing Helldivers! and yeah the chat audio cutting out during load screens is BS. Me and K were using the VC in the Discord to avoid that LOL but it shouldn't be that way. We can chat through virtually all of the loading screens in Helldivers 2 Super Fair criticism here. Agreed it's a very linear game. I'm still having fun but grinding the same 6 operations to level up is going to become tedious, repetitive and mundane pretty quickly I think. I know new content will be released but still. And yeah the social menu sucks. Getting into a game with buddies can take some time. Hopefully that gets ironed out. The return of the "GRIP", eh? 😂 Great show gents 🤙
100% having fun with the game, 3 toons over 20 , but it’s not hell divers , wish space marine and hell divers had a baby . The button mashing is annoying. Feels like less strategic and more jumping around . P.s. use the melta , game works best with over-healing

You guys have got to drop the campaign, forget it, forget the operations. It's an on-rails story. The PvP is basically an entirely different game - do that to level 10 or so and actually get a feel for that. It's 6v6 and especially the Capture and Control mode is tactical positional and loadout-centric. Try to find a class you enjoy, get a 3 together ( half the six ) and get on an external voice comms.
Yea i agree its not all that great i play cuz i like warhammer. I even spent the 109 usd just to play early. Its ite the sniper is my fav so far. I play sm2 and hd2 back to back.

It reminds me of all the content creators talking about Hell Divers 2 while completely ignoring the first Hell Divers. It would be like comparing Hell Divers to Left 4 Dead.
This is the only gaming podcast ill watch. Yall are great keep it up
@@crackdog3523 oh man that’s super nice to hear. Thanks!
10:00 there wasn't 12 million people into hell divers when it came out. It sold because it was a good game
I found this regarding the use of the word “grip”. (slang) As much as one can hold in a hand; a handful.
I need to get a grip of nails for my project.
THANK YOU! -Salty.
Funny I mentioned vampire survivors last week.
They need to bring out the sisters of silence 😂😂
The mics cutting out during loading is annoying. Salty is 100% correct.
I’m excited for the 17th -hoping it’s going to be fun. I haven’t played hd2 for about two months.
And I wouldn't worry about PVP your not missing out on much
I can honestly say I’m not looking forward to it. Lol
I thought the pvp wasnt bad actually, better than i was expecting
Would say that meele is secondary when you get up in higher lvl tbh.
Very possible. Like we both said. We will continue before coming to a final conclusion
Don't cheat on HD 2. Hopefully, lessons have been learned 😂
Space Marine 2 is great but definitely not a Helldivers 2 killer. NO game has to kill it when you got Arrowhead at the helm.
I must agree with you guys. I’m not having fun with it. I’d rather play Gears Of War. Which I thought it kinda looked like with what game footage I saw.
Yeah, and I like the cover mechanic in Gears and local co-op.
Wait you could upgrade your weapons in Space marines 2???
I tell ya'll what. Everything feels a whole lot better the moment you step away from media and shitty news.
I have fun with sm2. But totally understand why you don’t like it. Helldivers 2 is still my main and favorite game. Also have a lot of performance problems. And I upgraded my pc for this game. So that part real pissed me off.
the campaign was fun, the operations are fun.. ..once or twice
i thoroughly enjoyed SM2 and don't regret buying it but it's not one i'll play frequently, maybe once a week or so i'll hop on with da boyz and run some operations or through the campaign for the hell of it but that's about it
Had a lot of fun with the campaign and maxing out my bulwark in operations. but the game is not for the long run, sold it today.
27:45 Love the commentary and couldn't agree more.
I agree with you about space marines. I couldn’t get the Perry system down. I’m not having fun.
Glad I’m not alone
@@SaltyNerdGaming I’m mad because I spent 100$.I’m going to wait a few months. And give it another shot before I uninstall.
I can parry the little dudes fine but it goes whack on anything bigger. It seems like I’m always in the middle of some other fight or task and timing that damn trigger (ps5) in time just never happens. I’m in the just roll/ dodge crowd. And, spamming roll for half of a level is annoying.
@@ionmedicaldesigns8122 same here
My favorite part of Friday 😎
Hell nah it ain't killing Helldivers! and yeah the chat audio cutting out during load screens is BS. Me and K were using the VC in the Discord to avoid that LOL but it shouldn't be that way. We can chat through virtually all of the loading screens in Helldivers 2
Super Fair criticism here.
Great show gents 🤙
Thanks brother 👍🏻
Yall should try darktide as a squad.
100% having fun with the game, 3 toons over 20 , but it’s not hell divers , wish space marine and hell divers had a baby . The button mashing is annoying. Feels like less strategic and more jumping around . P.s. use the melta , game works best with over-healing
😂😂😂 people saw big dudes in armor with guns and said yep thats helldivers 😂😂😂. They obviously know less than me about the massive lore of warhammer 40k
@@luminousparadox7529 admittedly know very little about 40k. But “tactical shooter” was thrown around and we got our heads up out asses about it lol
I think the last console game this guy played was a Sega game 😅
The most impressive open world game you can play,is a console game, called horizon Forbidden West
If I play a game that takes place in Hong Kong, It's not offensive that im not represented in this part of the world
RIGHT!! Apparently this is a hard concept for some.
GTA has NEVER been "woke"! They've been more of a "make fun of the establishment" and "pop culture references".
If Dutch wants a hot chica Helldiver, EVE from Stellar Blade is basically a Helldiver.
Also, thanks for savin me $80.
💪FOR SUPER EARTH!💪
TLoU Part one is a fantastic game, I have 2 platinum trophies and like 17 completions with it. but yes. stop there. Left Behind DLC is good too if you are interested in Ellie's relationship with her 'girlfriend'. I found it quite acceptable with its 'representation', just like it did with Bill in the base game
dutch beer LMAO
I’m glad I didn’t spend 60 bucks on linear bull crap. Also I think Ghosts of Tsushima only requires PSN if you want to play multiplayer.
I love the segment going over game sales 🙌🏻
Nice! Definitely a staple of the show
Dude it was arrogant af for Sony to release that Concord trash when everyone was already well into The First Descendant, which is better and FREE.
Kingdom Come 2 is going to be epic... Making me want to reinstall the first one
Just sharing I played probably 5 hrs and I didn't like it much ;earlier today I processed my refund, I come from about 1200 plus HD2 hrs and totally this is not the same kind at all likely my mistake...
You’re not alone
You guys have got to drop the campaign, forget it, forget the operations. It's an on-rails story. The PvP is basically an entirely different game - do that to level 10 or so and actually get a feel for that. It's 6v6 and especially the Capture and Control mode is tactical positional and loadout-centric. Try to find a class you enjoy, get a 3 together ( half the six ) and get on an external voice comms.
Great recommendations. Thanks!
Sorry I have to correct, but Heineken isnt German Beer, it is Dutch :)
Yes. We learned that. Thanks. lol.
SLAY THE SPIRE
War hammer reminds me of gears of war and I’d much rather play gears of war than war hammer 40k. But helldivers 2 over both.
Haha space marine elevator music that shit is hilarious!
BTW, I've had a PSN account for as long as I can remember and I have never had a problem with it🎉🎉🎉
Noted*
Yea i agree its not all that great i play cuz i like warhammer. I even spent the 109 usd just to play early. Its ite the sniper is my fav so far. I play sm2 and hd2 back to back.
I never thought space marine looked good. Glad I didn’t get it. I’m going to get the flame barrage in helldivers tn
I’ve had more fun on SM2 than I ever did in HD2.
Good! Enjoy what you play.
It's ok to be wrong
It can't be a Helldivers killer. See in Helldivers the controls work and the weapons at least do some kind of damage.
😂😂
nice episode guys
Thanks man. 🤘🏻
Space Marine is fun and all, but it ain't no Helldivers
You have to play operations though, not the story.
Finally the truth! This game is not fun . I bought it so imma play it but not close to killing Helldivers off 😂
I think Remnant 2 has a much better gameplay ….however, Remnant 2 has too many crash issues.
Arrowhead will be the Helldivers 2 killer. (I see others already said this.)
I hate to break it for you, but Heiniken is Dutch, not German. For German beer personally I would advise to try some Jever or if you want something sweeter, you might like Paulaner.
Noted* thanks!
Heineken is dutch not German, but close enough and good choice.
