Great stuff! It's like a "greatest hits" album...all the good stuff all in one place! I'm not surprised Eric O jumps right in and goes to town on it. It really is great to see all of you together in one place and tackle a fun little issue like that. Ivan, keep up the good work...I've watched all your vids and really like your diagnostic thinking. I've learned a ton from you.
Awesome video.i watch all you guys and I have been a tech for 40 years....I am 64 years old and you all keep me entertained and informed .your challenges that you meet are far more advanced than I ever saw,but I am trying to keep up ....wish I lived closer so I could hang out with you and drink some beers with you ....thank you all for what you do...keep up the great work
all these video's inspire me more than ever. you guys are doing the best imaginable job, not just on the diag and repair but the documenting and explaining. you are all truly gifted and skillful. btw i hope your customer set you up with pizza and beer....
When you used the Tech-2 and commanded the body module and the lock worked in one direction, this told you the wiring is intact and you should have picked up on that, since it is only a 2 wire actuator setup, an advanced tech would have suspected either a switch or relay problem right off the bat, since those items control the direction of electrical flow. No need to remove door panels. A 10 minute job turned into hours of diagnostic time. Good job fellas.
guayaco3299 Probably farther (West Coast of BC Canada)... I would fly down and hang out for a few days / week... maybe go visit Scanner Danner University etc.
Wow looks like so much fun. Wish I was there with the Dream Team. I've been watching Eric and Scanner Danner for years now.You guys are like family to me.Plus watching Ivan grow in his willingness to diagnose. Keith seems to be very knowledgeable in watching you in one of your last Staten videos. I knew about the termination resistors on pins 6 and 14 from my Indiana Emission State Certification course for no comm.issues.Thanks to Ken Sanders. All and all I am looking forward to meeting all of you next year. Ivan keep up the great vids. Love your new Pico Scope too. God Bless You All My Friends.😇😇😇
That was such a weird video! Was funny seeing that many tech on one problem and how different they seemed in there process in helping solve the problem! But to be fair I’m more at ease in my surrounding with all the tools right there! And watching this was quite different! Was still a outstanding video!!!
Quantitative ? holy crap I started out watching a you tube video about a door lock problem, and ended up going to Wikipedia to look up fancy words :) good video I like the way you guys bust each others chops.
This is such a cool scene. It's like being backstage, but the musicians from all the touring acts are jamming together instead of separately getting high in their respective tour buses LOL
Haha, you guys under one roof is great. I love how Paul in the beginning was asking that guy if his truck had any issues, looking for a problem of his own :P.
That was too cool. Going for the Subscribe button. Ivan I loved the 3 part Russian car repair. You fixed it like they would have in the old days. Those videos you made are modern day classics. Great job Buddy. -John
Relays are notorious for going faulty. To test a relay, put 6v across the contacts with 1 amp flowing and measure the voltage drop. Should be about 0.3v depending on the resistance of the contacts.Pulled 5 relays from a faulty microwave combi and all badly pitted.Did a job on the contacts with the help of 400 grit, wet and dry sandpaper and all's well again.Good diagnosis video with Erico verifying his scope and yourself showing us the circuit diagram which is very important for the viewers. The scanner was very reflective and difficult to discern the data.Perhaps for future videos, an umbrella of sorts could be used to block out the glare of the sun that is used when filming.
It's a camp ground, looks like a place to relax kick back by the fire and have a brew not work on cars......lol. The master of automotive electronics (Keith) is hanging out in the gallery giggling like hell. Thanks for the video.
Awesome vid Ivan. Ok this fancy load testing tool Eric was talking about sound like some underground tool only for techs. Mike was right - IF YOU CAN GET SOMEONE ELSE TO DO IT YOUR PROBABLE BETTER OFF.
The Power Diagnostic Team! It's always better to fix it before drinking then after especially after you wake up & walk out to the truck to try and remember why not only the door locks aren't working but why it won't start and why are all these relays removed & why does Paul have stuff drawn on his face:-)
You know I realize sometimes that some jobs take longer than others and we're always worried about how long were taking, I know I do, but one thing I always think about is if it does take longer to find and fix at least you know it was fixed right and it won't be coming back and therefore you won't be spending more time on the job. Sometimes being slower is more effective. Considering poor Eric had the heat on him I thought he did a great job.
LOL!!! Great vid Ivan. I bet that's been the funniest repair you guy have ever done. What's the thing with Keith and his camera phobia? It seems you guys had a great time on this trip. Well deserved. Cheers mates!!!!
Sometimes when there are too many trouble shooters working in close proximity, it causes havoc and makes the simplest of jobs go far too long. Good vid though!
*@**25:40* Is it at all possible- that the relay *_socket plugs_* are loose and / or corroded- if "fiddling with the relay made it work"? That entire fuse panel was wobbly.
I have to agree some people don't even put the plastic insulation water barrier back on the door over the pwr window motor wiring and pwr door lock solenoid and the window regulators lol, but I got ahold of a 88 Chevrolet Monte Carlo SS no aero coupe back window... I pulled the door panel off because nothing on either door worked and under the Dr side the plastic was gone instead was completely covered in black vinyl electrical tape lol,, and I pulled that off and they actually took the time to make a frame around it out of cardboard and the plastic had a tore out hole bigger than the inside door handle release because they yanked the plastic barrier off and it was in the trunk folded lol.some people and inside the door was soaked the window motor was in water and the regulator tracks were rusted and upon further examination the motor and pwr door lock solenoid were unplugged in both doors and the passenger side still had the plastic barrier and had some dampness in the door but nothing like the Dr side door and I spent an hour with crc brake kleen red can and scotch Brite pad cleaning the regulator and track back up and plugged in the wiring and put both sides back together and then patched the in the plastic barrier with black duck brand duct tape and cut the small slit for the inside door handle and tried it and nothing I then found out the pwr accessory circuit breaker relay was no longer silver the top was blueish colored and the pwr window, pdl, and the heater courtesy and radio fuse were visibly smoked without even pulling the fuses out.. I replaced those and went to the junkyard and got a bunch of the 80's gm cars and square body trucks pwr accessory circuit breaker relays, and wahla power windows and door locks and heater fan switch and blower motor function it was ran straight to ignition circuit in the fuse block and straight up to the positive battery cable.., and I got rid of that and it's other problems before that I was thinking it had a shorting out steering column no dash function at all and no dash or dome, courtesy lights check and those fuses are missing?? Who was working on this damn thing I wouldn't let him tune my bicycle.. and the power window motor harness connector plug and the pwr lock solenoid connector plugs laying down in the Dr side door in the water shorted out the pwr accessory circuit breaker relay and blew the wipers pwr window and dl and heater blower motor fuses
Charles was there last year and had planned to go this year but had an issue come up that he couldn't make it at the last minute. He said he'd like to go again next year. Very nice guy and sharp, really like Charles and I'm not a VW person, LOL!
I think this was the wrong approach. Initially the passinger door was unlocking when comanded to lock and locking when comanded to unlock. Then we find out that the actuator on the passenger door was replaced, but some component was taken off the old unit to put on the new one. The simplest explanation is the polarity got reversed. I would have isolated the passenger actuator and found what wire needed to be energized to make the door lock, and which wire made the door unlock. Hook up the appropriate wires . Then the mystery is solved, and no scan tools needed.
so replaced main power fuse and everything starts working. my guess is that the root problem may be a poor connection thru the fuse box causing the relays to work with low voltage pulling high amps for the circuit thus causing the relays to fail. just my 2 cents
I am a tech at Ford I really enjoyed watching #Erico from South Main Auto I do watch Eric the Car Guy Ivan and scannerdanner but you guys were missing Matt from #Schrodingersbox
Playing armchair mechanic: I wonder if it would have been easier/quicker to discover this bad ground by doing voltage drop testing (with or without a LoadPro) instead of going to the old (un)faithful test light. The voltage drop on the ground side should have been pretty quick to diagnose with a couple voltage measurements. More then .5V drop on a 12 volt circuit is excessive resistance. Yeah, its kind of understood that voltage drop testing is done on a loaded circuit. Can't have voltage drop without current flow. So just don't unplug anything before you start testing, and go from there. My point is that the brainwork could likely have been reduced using voltage (drop) testing. A couple voltage measurements would have told you if it was an open, short or excessive resistance pretty quickly. Just sayin'...
l wish you could look at my car unlock and lock button will not work. window controls will not work drivers side. key fob also does work at unlocking the doors. gas latch doesn't work and trunk release won't work!!!!
Wish I could have made it down there last weekend. I've got a P04DB00 Code that the dealer can't figure out. Been in 4 times in the last 2 weeks. Now they're ordering an Oil Separator for it.??????? 2015 Dodge Dart Aero 1.4L w/turbo
Keith, looks like they put a new air flow sensor of some kind (crankcase ventilation sensor) on it which didn't fix the problem. Now they're thinking it's the PCV assembly.
Probably give us the old parts rather than any new and improved ones so we'll have to come back. I think the parts they put in should have a 2 year unlimited mile warranty though which is longer than the original one lasted.
At 20 minutes in, the scope on a rope and a DMM has fooled me with a fuse check once. The car once had an aftermarket "fuse tap" , the kind that wrap around the fuse blade. This was likely performed to add a true keyed, not BCM controlled, ACC or IGN source for aftermarket stereos and accessories. The car was sold and the OEM equipment was properly installed and everything worked, for a while at least. One would assume the fuse is fine with a probe test, why no power down the line to the load..? The fuse tap was removed with the stereo and the fuse was put back in place. It was the powered side of the fuse block that had a firm grasp on the fuse blade. A test lite says ITs GOOD! The load side was spread out from the fuse tap, which is a shitty device made to speed up install production and make it easy.... easy to fuck shit up! The load side didn't have a grasp on the fuse blade at all. The factory stereo gets the ACC Power from Class 2 Data, no true ACC source in the harness.. see? I love having days like that - the ones that make you re-think the simple stuff.
As a GM tech. Those lock/unlock relays good bad all the time. Even one was bad we would replace both. To prevent a come back . Or my favorite line " ever since " .
some times it's not good to have 4 guys that are dignostic techs because each one has a different way and then it seems ego gets in the way anyways that's one big bill for a unlock diagnosis lol
Eric is the man. Not only can he do the mechanics but the man can diagnose and fix any electrical problem.
Awesome job fellas! This is great example of why Eric O. is an awesome mechanic at South Main Auto.
The best part is hearing SD in the background telling someone "We're TH-cam mechanics".
LOL at Paul trying to get some sidework at 8:50 "is your truck running good?"
Great stuff! It's like a "greatest hits" album...all the good stuff all in one place! I'm not surprised Eric O jumps right in and goes to town on it. This is my third time watching / listening to this video. It's great to hear everyone come together, laugh and pick on each other.
Eric O was on fire to get that thing fixed. Guess he was all jazzed up from the meetup and chomping at the bit to show his stuff! Great job guys!
That man is a beast
Yeah, and so are you. Can't wait to see you in action!
all these video's inspire me more than ever. you guys are doing the best imaginable job, not just on the diag and repair but the documenting and explaining. you are all truly gifted and skillful. btw i hope your customer set you up with pizza and beer....
Only watched 1st 3 minutes so far and pure gold!!! I love it!
haha yeah that was entertaining, especially the "customer interview" part :)
honest to a fault sometimes! haha!
you and Eric have the best absolute # 1 videos on you tube man.
No pressure,No pressure........
I would have crumbled long ago...
Thanks to all of you for sharing,Like this very much...
Same with me... don't work well under pressure. Looking to attend next year... how far away are you from there?

I was waiting for Paul to say pin 16 on the dlc to verify you have a good ground for your test light.great job love it.

way to go Eric O, you the man, sorry, you the technician
While you were filming the fuse panel/relay swap sequence, I kept waiting for scannerdanner to bring out his water bottle to find the problem!!!

Awesome vid Ivan. Ok this fancy load testing tool Eric was talking about sound like some underground tool only for techs. Mike was right - IF YOU CAN GET SOMEONE ELSE TO DO IT YOUR PROBABLE BETTER OFF.
It's called a Power Probe lol
+Nathan Spain HAHA nope it was the LOADPRO but don't tell anybody. LOL
"Always check your equipment". Would that be Paul??? LOL!! Great dude..
good to see top techs in the country get together ...an make a difference hahaha stay well my friends keep up the good videos
Mike got some one else to do it. (ha ha) He won a lottery with 4 techs on hand. Great video Ivan and it was nice to meet you guys at the met up!
Ain't that the truth! Then, he just stands there like it happens every day. No biggie! lol
It was nice to meet you at the meet up. I'll be subbing your channel!

Thanks Wyatt, same here!
The Power Diagnostic Team! (engine running, doors locked, lock relays removed is worse)
The boys are all together. Should have made Scanner do the diag!
I was off duty :-)
and this truck was in good hands. They didn't need me.
Great place and time for the car to breakdown. :)
It's funny when you got a few guys thinking they know what they're doing lol! Good vid
Wow a 10 minute job, but you were able to stretch the video to 30 minutes.....hahaha Another great and entertaining video by Ivan and Eric.
and charge the guy for 2 problems, apparently lock and unlock are 2 issues...
all my favorite mechanics is there i hop you going to give Eric some lessons
Love the on the fly repairs.
You know I realize sometimes that some jobs take longer than others and we're always worried about how long were taking, I know I do, but one thing I always think about is if it does take longer to find and fix at least you know it was fixed right and it won't be coming back and therefore you won't be spending more time on the job. It was really nice to "work" with no time constraints in the company of great friends :)
Ivan question for you. That new launch pad you have, what is the model number on it and how do you like it so far? Was thinking about getting one.
It's the X431 windows-based unit. I love it so far. The newer one is the PadII Android tablet, which is a bit faster and has a nicer screen.
Do you have to update it every year to use the tool?
great work all of you and great friends
LOL!!! Great vid Ivan. I bet that's been the funniest repair you guy have ever done. What's the thing with Keith and his camera phobia?
It seems you guys had a great time on this trip. Well deserved. Cheers mates!!!!
What was the time and materials on that job? I was impressed from the hit. Good hunting.
Love when u guys do crossovers.
Sometimes when there are too many trouble shooters working in close proximity, it causes havoc and makes the simplest of jobs go far too long. Good vid though!
So start my own channel?
LIKE :)
Heck yeah! Can't wait to see your vids.
Let me know brother im in.
I'll be there!
Absolutely. Do it!
Where is James Danner from You tube community?
where was etcg at during this ?
Hope Scanner Danner was on BBQ duty whilst all this was happening. Nice work fellas!
I was on beer duty
*@**25:40* Is it at all possible- that the relay *_socket plugs_* are loose and / or corroded- if "fiddling with the relay made it work"? That entire fuse panel was wobbly.
new relays put in. Works fine so far.
Looks like a good time. Reminds me of going to the track. Can't afford that anymore, hahaha.
Cheers guys! Enjoy the cold ones
Cool to get a couple of great mechanics together for some fun and....work./Uh!!
I wonder if scannerdanner was working on fuel trims while Eric figured out the locks?

Haha @ the play in the steering. I thought the steering box in my jeep was gone and turns out the steering shaft is way passed shot.
That's a lotta talent in one car park!
Good times... hoping to attend next year! Hope no-one shows up with a VW or Audi... I couldn't take the pressure.
Let me know if you go and I will be sure to drive out there with my '03 A4 1.8t and put you right on the spot! hahaha
***** I just realized that something came up... can't make it, sorry! :)
Hey, no worries, Charles the Humble Mechanic will take it! ;)
Helga's Pennsylvania Cooking He's gonna be there?
Charles was there last year and had planned to go this year but had an issue come up that he couldn't make it at the last minute. He said he'd like to go again next year. Very nice guy and sharp, really like Charles and I'm not a VW person, LOL!
so the sort story was ..... replaced the power fuse and the two grey cube things worked ...?
Hi there. I really enjoy your videos. I'm wondering if you are related to actor Michael J. Anderson? Your face is so similar
WHY YOU GUYS DIDINT USE A POWER PROBE
Only these guys will fix cars WHILE THEY ARE CAMPING!
so what did Eric charge mike . $ 1000.00 diagnostic fee ?
Great job guys!
How many You Tubers doe it take to ???????????? Just kidding. Looks like a good time was had by all. Nice job to all.
That was a good time!
I'd love to see Keith with his own channel. Gotta get over the camera shyness :-)
What is etcg? ... or am I missing something... ?
It always takes longer when someone is watching which is weird but proves true more often than not.
Then the mystery is solved, and no scan tools needed.
so replaced main power fuse and everything starts working. my guess is that the root problem may be a poor connection thru the fuse box causing the relays to work with low voltage pulling high amps for the circuit thus causing the relays to fail. just my 2 cents
so did you tighten that loose nut behind the wheel mr danner pointed out? thats alot of play you showed.. dangerous..
I am a tech at Ford I really enjoyed watching #Erico from South Main Auto I do watch Eric the Car Guy Ivan and scannerdanner but you guys were missing Matt from #Schrodingersbox
I really enjoy Eric O. and Ivan. even some scanner Danner. I must say Keith can be a bit much.
I can hear Chris fix too!

Old video but a good one. Good job!
There's your problem lady... :-)
You missed one key word: LOADED voltage drop testing! Test light was faithful as always...just took a bit of brainwork to interpret the results :)
Yeah, its kind of understood that voltage drop testing is done on a loaded circuit. Can't have voltage drop without current flow. So just don't unplug anything before you start testing, and go from there. My point is that the brainwork could likely have been reduced using voltage (drop) testing. Last time I saw this issue, I fell off my dinosaur. LOL.
brian from fordtechmakuloco and scotty should have been there too!!
Yeah there would be a lot more stuff to fix if Kilmer had been there.
Pure gold guys...!
Eric O., in the know!
l wish you could look at my car unlock and lock button will not work. window controls will not work drivers side. key fob also does work at unlocking the doors. gas latch doesn't work and trunk release won't work!!!!
So what was wrong with her car?
Looks like the relay isn't working right.
this reminds me of that Ford F150 they brought in on a tow truck.
Wish I could have made it down there last weekend. I've got a P04DB00 Code that the dealer can't figure out. Been in 4 times in the last 2 weeks. Now they're ordering an Oil Separator for it.???????
2015 Dodge Dart Aero 1.4L w/turbo
I'll see what I can dig up on that
Keith, looks like they put a new air flow sensor of some kind (crankcase ventilation sensor) on it which didn't fix the problem. Now they're thinking it's the PCV assembly.
+Baxrok2 They're correct , however I'm checking into whether or not the parts have been improved
Yup, I'm hoping that the new separator will fix the oil leak problem also. Car is going back in Tuesday if they get the part.
Probably give us the old parts rather than any new and improved ones so we'll have to come back. I think the parts they put in should have a 2 year unlimited mile warranty though which is longer than the original one lasted.
That was nice video and gethering
Where is Schroedinger box?
Couldn't make it...probably time constraints.

Shame... Being important scientist is not easy;(
Surprisingly Eric O was allowed to leave the house without the Mrs.
Gee four heavy hitters, should have been able to put you hand over the truck and the fix just come to you!
12:01 ...kilmer....lol

I love having days like that - the ones that make you re-think the simple stuff.
How many times have you had issues like this on a toyota/honda?
and when you have a domestic electrical gremlins are just normal aren't they? Thats why I quit buying them....
As a GM tech. Those lock/unlock relays good bad all the time.

Was Dan Sullivan invited to this meet up?LOL
his name was on the white bord so......
