El-P was the reason why I got into beatmaking.
Any beat in particular?
@@NavieD Pretty much the entire I'll Sleep When You're De@d album, Tasmanian Pain Coaster was the craziest intro track to a rap album I've ever heard.
Same
Dope
@@NavieD Deep Space 9 mm makes me feel like a time travelling samurai. Only El-P can do this shit XD
tapped instantly, not enough people talking about el-p's production. super unique
Same bro. I tapped so fast. He is such an underrated producer, and had a massive influence on me in the early 2000's.
I did not know of him until this vid I’m super excited to study him
Definitely unique. I love his production
he is for sure one of the best producers of all time for me
EL-P’s versatility gives me hope that my approach to making music won’t continue to be slept on. Bless up Navie 🙏🏾
that first beat you made is a fking banger
You missed one crucial ingredient
7 packs of smokes a day
And probably 6 blunts
@@floobiegoobie7931 only six?
He is a massive inspiration to me. His pre RTJ work on cannibal ox, funcrusher plus and fantastic damage changed the way i see beat making. The way he distorts samples and builds up drum breaks into more complex, dense rhythms always dazzles me. He is just that guy man. Great video!
El-P way underrated as a producer. I remember discovering Co-flow`s Funcrusher Plus vinyl in a basement of a record store I had been working at in the late 90's. 20 something years later and, still relevant.
That album and fantastic damage blew my mind, still does
That's interesting because I just saw the album cover and decided to give it a shot. At the time, I didn't fully appreciate it. When they dropped the "End to End Burners" video, I went back to "Funcrusher Plus" and haven't looked back.
Wow! Could it be!?…
An EL-P production tutorial where the beat example actually fucking sounds close to a beat EL-P would make?? You may be the first TH-camr to *ever* do it, so bravo!! It’s apparently a near impossible feat :)
Great video, thanks man
Ha, yeah I was sceptical too!
I'm happy that TH-cam recommended me this video 1 year later.
This is why you’re my favorite teacher on TH-cam. You’re the only one I could trust to do make his style of production accessible
PLEASE MAKE A 1992-1996 CLASSIC RZA VIDEO
A RTJ x jpegmafia collab album would be absolutely incredible
3 years in a bucket, fuck it!
J bave no clue how that would sound but im all for it
I've been doing this but with Death Grips as my inspiration. they do a very similar thing just with different stylistics
Naive D never misses. Straight Fuego as always.
Ayyy thank you bossman
Yeah, I had my doubts that you could create something that sounds in the ballpark or what El-P does, as I think it’s kind of a hard sound to get right, and an easy one to make a mess of. Once your beat came in, it was nice.
Navie like the martial arts master that can do any style.Great breakdown.El P one of my favorite producers, his style always feels grimey and futuristic like from an apocalypse movie
The funny part about this, is that I distinctly remember doing stuff like this when I first started making beats but I never knew how to put it together in a way that sounds intelligible. Using random sounds and layering multiple copies of the same synth with weird effects. I think I need to get back to that after spending so much time trying to teach myself how to write melodies and music theory and shit.
I’ve been doing this type of production for awhile since 09. DJ Paul uses this technique as well.
Awesome. I really glad you listened to us and made this
And older beats from El-P are even crazier, from his solo albums and Company Flow, with some industrial distorted robotic apocaliptic sound, and abstract disordered syncopated drums, very unique innovative producer, one of the best and favorites.
one of your best videos yet 👌
Amazing sound design ! Thank you so much
Been waiting for this one! 🔥👏
Nice!!!!! Can't wait for the next lesson!!! 🔥🔥🔥💪😎👌
This was very informative and just helped me make a fun experimental beat. Thank you.!!
Wow as I was studying El-p’s production you drop this video….divine timing 🙌🏿
Truly amazing! Thank you for exploring El-P’s style with your consistent thoroughness 🙏🏽 there’s no video out there that’ll even touch on his approach, so it’s greatly appreciated 🙌🏽
another banger! your tips are so clutch.
Thank you thank you!
Navie, you killed it on this. Awesome mix of documentarian and teacher here and you absolutely got to the core of the lesson.
Excellent breakdown
One of the most underrated producers ever! So versatile and unique sound he always did he's the legend for reason!!!
So glad to see the GOAT of abstract hip hop on your channel.
Great breakdown thanks Navie
Thank you Delgaaaaaaaa
Dude, yes! I saw that poll! Im so glad you decided to hit up this one.
Hahah I had fun doing this one for sure
Man I love your videos. So insightful. Thanks a lot! El-P is just fantastic, never disappointing or boring. The real deal!
Thank you Androoooooooooooo
Thank you this was good video ✌🏼
Awesome video! El-P is one of my favorite emcees ever
Man, I miss the Weathermen.
🌩🌩🌩
☔
I miss going to any Def Jux show in NYC in the mid 2000s and no matter who’s show it was, just about every motherfucker on the label would show up and rap 😂. Good times.
the goat Navie
The beat you made is dope.
Inspiring Video 🔥
Navie D ...thanks man
Thank you Navie and thank you EL-P
Yo this is sickkk
this is so good, geez
yo!!!!!!!! This got me so hype! Now I know exactly which genre of music I make, "Noise based." I love RTJ and how Killer Mike joined forces with EL P! Such a dope duo! Thanks so much for this video, Navie!
I’d love to see one of these videos on RZA
people need to make more videos discussing his beatmaking
Thank you. 💯✌🏼✊🏼
Du bist wirklich gut im Erklären.
I have to try this
Great Video👌🏻 El-P is the real production GOAT💎 Grew Up listening to:
Company Flow
A Real Def JUKIE😈
Ooh you've been with him for a minute then
I love El-P he’s such an amazing producer, his production on Funcrusher Plus and Fantastic Damage was so ahead it’s time!
Such a crime that Co Flow they split so soon...... End To End Burners is an all time fave...........
@@pussyfruit Cannibal Ox COLD VEIN 💎💎💎❤ My Favorite EL-P productions Now That's some Futuristique Sh!t!!! So sad it got swepted under the covers!!
@@-SC- yoooo cold vein ❤ crazy how much that album still absolutely slaps to this day. Blades of ronin could never really hit the same heights
Man i wished i saw this video in 2001 or 2017. I havent touched reason for a long time but i was always chasing el-p vibes but with west coast underground bounce. Keep making these bro
3:32 - *INSTANT* STANK FACE 🥶
Thank you. The techniques here seem like an extension of the ideas from your Pharrell video. I will put this stuff to good use!
El-P is such a legend
thanks for the tips tan karim benzema
call me sassy but u becoming the teacher ive always wanted
Yooo this is really dope, and great tutorial. EL-P is my favorite producer of all time and I have been studying his craft since 1995. I’ve been producing music for over 20 years now, and he is always someone I always look up to for progression in my skills, him Madlib and J.Dilla (RIP) are my inspirations! I especially love when I discover a sample EL-P flipped maybe in Funcrusher Plus or Cold Vein and I get mad like “How the fuck did he do that?” I pick apart his beats like many try to pick apart Aesops lyrics!
I have never smashed like button this fastly ;)
As someone who love’s abrasive metal/ hardcore, and loves hip hop, EL-Ps production scratches the itch for when I’m in a mood for loud and wild music but don’t want to listen to metal
Thanx
Never hit the like button so quick
This was fantastic vid! I loved the overall take a way of make a sonic collage this really opened my mind to a new perspective of beat making I instantly was reminded of Kanye’s yeezus I can’t wait to implement this new way of thinking into my beats
Oooh I kinda wanna do a Yeezus video soon. That's my fav Kanye album
@@NavieD I would love that I loved the alternative rock and techno influence on the yeezus album sonically I think yeezus is also my fav album to
that third beat reminded me of new slaves
Please do a video on the Bomb Squad
I was waiting for something like this since a long time.
Did some RTJ type beats some months ago, would be awesome to get your input on those! 🔥
A sincere thank you from Italy.
Navie D is for the people ✊🏼
That beat is hella interesting. One suggestion for a future vid is analyzing NICK WIZ - imo he is one of the 90s producers who doesn't get enough recognition ... the video called "Best Nick Wiz Beat Flips (Samples)" made me really appreciation his style of boom bap.
cheers and keep up the amazing content!
This video made me go listen to run the jewels albums. El-P’s style is dope. I want to see a video for Aesop Rock’s production too. His style is 🔥! They were on the same label Def Jux with RJD2 (i bet you can’t make a beat like him!) so it’s one umbrella. 💪🏾.
my friend pedro goes hard af. i only play for the soundtrack now. i beat the game a while back. but that soundtrack keeps me coming back. fire
Dang that was good
Omg i Was doing this things without knowing this producer😮 thanks again Navie !! A video of portishead or chinese man can be posible?, they flips samples in a interesting way , the swagy drums and the ambient is very good ...
Ah, finally somebody interesting. Good job
I thought this was about EP from the Doppelgangaz for a second. Such a great duo.
El-P IS DOPE!
One of your better beats too tbh
Yes yes yes finally el-p got covered by navie
This analysis is fire, i hope you can do decap next
Didn't even know Decap made popular beats. Thought he was mostly a sound maker.
Thank you Mo!
@@Aryeh487 he does produce mainly and his boombap stuff is jaw knocking
Damn son, this is one of your most useful videos. Thanks a lot.
Side note: htf has EM never gotten on an El P beat? That’s an L for Marshall.
please do the avalanches
Props for mentioning the Bomb Squad. Sometimes feels like them and PE have been memory holed 🤔
u kno i liked it
You should consider breaking down Monte booker or dj Dahi both pretty cool and inspirational producers
While we're in this lane, might as well hit up Mr. DJ and/or Organized Noise. Love this region of hip hop! Apologies if you've done Organized Noise before, bc I don't remember, if so. lol Cheers, Navie!
Patriotism still floors me everytime I listen to it.
Instant like for Navie’s Ds.
YAAAAAAY
yeeee
@@NavieD made something using some of the tips in the video. It’s more NIN than El-P but they use a lot of the same basic ideas.
Company Flow!
wish i could like this twice
I’ll sleep when you’re dead was the album responsible for getting me into beatmaking
In reference to part 1, could you make you track then duplicate it across multiple instruments then just delete a part from each one to get the same effect?
The sample he uses is from paul williams “electric piano solos” and its filled with good samples if anyone wants to check out 🔥
When are you going to get one from Budamunk?
I gotta sit down with his Run The Jewels projects with Killer Mike. I didn't listen to him but I knew he was underground
The whole RTJ series has so many amazing beats
You should check out his first solo album Fantastic Damage. Some of those beats are my favorite to this day and I think it release in ‘02.
@@BIG_PASTA also Company Flow, Cannibal Ox..
@@jaydonuts5499 definitely, his work with Can Ox is insane… The Cold Vein is perhaps his most sonically cohesive work to date imo. That said, there’s just something about Fantastic Damage that still tops the all the rest for me. I could go on and on about it but I’ll spare ya 😂
@@BIG_PASTA Fantastic Damage is definitely in my top 5 favorite hip hop albums. First time I listened to it I wasn’t expecting much. Instantly mind blown by his production & lyrics. I’ve always loved the sci fi / cyber punk sound. I always thought he used a wide array of instruments for that album too but it’s kinda refreshing hearing he only used a sampler & turntable. I was hoping he would go more into what he was sampling, I wonder if he took some sounds from movies as well as records
He also seems to leave more low end in his beats, under 40hz.
Wow hes got a unique type of sound/production sounds a bit like clams casino
Please a video for me''❤❤
In case an artist walk into my my end to do a beat for his lyrics (vocal) how do I go by that
You gotta do this video format with $crim from Suicideboys
HE GONNA UNZIP AND TAKE US TO BROWN TOWN BOIS
Yo hit that fucking like button we almost got to see the navie goods 😮
Can you make a video on Death Grips please 🙏🏻
