  • Ben Verlander welcomes back Hall of Famer John Smoltz to discuss the postponement of the Atlanta Braves and New York Mets series, which has HUGE playoff implications. They also discuss the wild nature of the Wild Card race in both the American and National League and with emphasis on playoff seeding. They also talk about who they think will round out all of the playoff spots and also discuss the Rowdy Tellez DFA situation.

Although I haven't listened to every episode, it seems as if Ben has spent more time discussing the Twins rally sausage than on the Tigers ballclub this season.

The Rowdy situation reminds me of some situations within the Dodgers in the middle of the year. They usually kept guys on the roster long enough for them to get the incentive markers even if they didn't play them every game. I believe Paxton and Nick Ahmed both got theirs, but I could be wrong. But I mean the ownership comparison is apple to oranges really... as that was the biggest turnaround for the Dodgers organization. I still remember the late '90s and '00s.
edit: Actually, I think the Ahmed thing was just to give him enough time for his 10 year. I'd need to go check.

Too many playoff teams period. Division winners 1 wild card per league. Too much crap for more money for mlb.

That was some bull. Just pay Rowdy if it wasn't about money, as the team says. Sucks.

If the braves and mets were smart they wouldnt play this doubke header and each forfeit a game. Everybody wins except arizona and im sorry but dont give the mlb that satisfaction that they can do whatever they want. There can be a way to get out of it

Not as exciting as last years' end to the season but I think it's basically the same result. THE ASTROS ARE INEVITABLE. lol. Respect your perspectives.

Ben, which team are you rooting for? You know which two teams I’m talking about. Your team or the team your brother is on? Win, win for you I would say?

In the Diamondback/Padres final two games, the Padres are using two pitchers who are not very good. They are saving their three best pitchers for the wildcard series.

Oh wow, Ben. You brought John Smoltz on to comment on the Mets-Braves run. John Smoltz, the Atlantan patron saint of finishing business and double-taps. Sorry Mets fans.

The Braves and Mets situation hasn't even played out fully. But man have Mets pundits and especially that GiraffeNeckMarc guy WAY blown this out of proportion. He's called Braves "evil" and that they are sabotaging the Mets. He then attacked the city itself saying that only idiots live there. Well, anyway, thank YOU John for keeping a level head about it.

The Tigers in the playoffs is even more of a surprise than the KC Royals because of how far back they were. It is said that the best trades are the ones you don't make. Tarik Skubal not being dealt at the deadline is a great example of such. Kudos to A.J. Hinch, who has really done an excellent job at helping in bringing a winning culture to Detroit.

"..then the next thing ya know, postponed the last two games.."
Um, newsflash- there was actually a reason for the postponement ... as in, a massive tropical storm going through the region.
The question becomes why didn't mlb have the foresight on Sunday to schedule a doubleheader on that Tuesday that they did play.

Hey, I am a casual baseball fan from Japan and don't get me wrong, I'm not a hater of you.
Just want to tell I was so disappointed on how you handled the post about Ohtani couple days ago, about him putting blame on the Angels about his low RISP start of this season.
Its such an obvious fake news, almost the last thing Shohei can possibly say, what I'm mad about is,
    - A "reliable source" like you spreading such fake news
    - Someone who calls himself "the biggest fan" of Shohei, getting baited, believing such stupid news.
I now really feel uneasy looking at your content, and all those "prasing Shohei" thing seems to me like a performance just to gain Japanese viewership.
Are you sure you're gonna just delete the post with no explanation?
I'm sure that you have your own story about this (I also made tons of mistake retweeting malicious contents when I'm in bed, not concentrating, just for humor, hype), all I want is have some sort of reasonable explanation of your mistake, so that I can still enjoy your content from now on.
Anyways, I have been enjoying your content for 2 years, and had surely spread my knowledge on this sport. thanks.
