Megan: I played Ultima 1-5 quite obsessively, and then a bit Ultima Online. have the maps and the special edition still at home. Didn't know he's from TEXAS! respect to this gigantic creator.
Love this. The storyline from ULTIMA IV definately became a corner stone to my thoughts and philosophy. It stayed as a subconscious aspect in my conversations and stories for years. This is a great bio and a perfect opportunity to say, thank you Lord British.
I've always respected Garriots work (didn't know much about him other than his work on the Ultima franchise), but after this I would put him up there with and possibly beyond, Carmack, Chris Roberts, and Kojima as people I'd like to emulate. +Why does footage of people going to, in, and returning from space always look like it was filmed in the 80s.
Amazing house. So jealous. Grew up playing his games on my Commodore 64. Ultima IV is my favorite game in the series, and of all time. Fascinating guy.
Ultima III and IV were the high points of the series. Anyone else remember those? Before everything had to be 3D with lots of special effects. It was more like a computerized board game, and it was great.
The secret passages are incredible, but not so secret anymore. Wonder if that left him a bit empty now that the whole world knows how to stealth around his own house.
Paul Hellyer really put himself out there talking about his beliefs in Aerial Phenomena. This means as soon as he says something like details about ET, the giggle factor kicks in and people will see him as kooky. What most people don't realize is he did a lot of research over the years and the stuff he's talking about deals with what he's learned. Anyone can do it. There's a lot of detail / data out there that will blow your mind. for now.. search anonymousfo here in youtube. Good for him!
Forget the BS about what he has done, look at what this guy has collected, gotta give him quick a huge amount of respect for that.... who has a "collection" of Sputniks? He did something significant in the development of MMORPGs, we can argue how much or how little, but enough to give him plenty of cash... so by modern standards he has succeeded, and he has spent it on cool stuff.... respect.
Ultima Online is still the best MMORPG of all time by a long shot. I've played countless MMORPG's and Online RPG sense the days of Ultima and none can compare in even the smallest of ways to the grandeur of what was UO in the golden days of the game. Most people remember the "classic" version of the game, if you haven't played the enhanced client yet I would definitely recommend looking into it. What makes it more impressive is that the servers are still running and lots of people still play.
ultima online wasn't the first mmorpg, it was however the first one to use the term "mmorpg", previously there where called MUDs (multi user dungeon), but as ultima was so big and popular the term stuck, as well as ultima being such a huge step forward for the genre its not hard to forget that there where others before it.
I don't know how anyone can take this guy seriously. He happened to be in the right time and place when PCs and gaming started. Since he sold UO to EA, he hasn't done a single thing of note. Tabula Rasa? Come on, he's lucky if that's a footnote in his bio as 'the start of the end'. There are millions of other people out there who could've done the same thing as him or even better if they had been there in that time. Keep in mind, while he was in space he was fired. Good timing? Great timing.
I watched a day with a Russian billionaire last night either on this channel or on "Vice", and I can honestly say I'd much rather have Richard Garriott's life.
Cool video Richard (Lord British) Any chance you could see your way to finishing Shroud of the Avatar that has been in Early Access for four years? Tar.
Did anyone else get a little upset at the simplification of modern CPUs? Has this guy seen the x86 instruction set? Or does he have that much cred that he hasn't had to worry about the hardware since the 6502?
It probably hurts him mentaly tho to brag about owning dead children and human bodyparts.. People who brag alot about their belongings do not like themselves specially much, and when you gets to the point when you brag about dead children bodies and bodyparts then youre probably ready to get help to start loving yourself instead of worthless objects he cant take with him when this is over. Just my opinion tho.
a rich geek's house is the coolest thing
so this is the kind of guy that the pawn stars sell vampire hunting kits to. finally, closure to my quandaries.
Megan: I played Ultima 1-5 quite obsessively, and then a bit Ultima Online. have the maps and the special edition still at home.
Didn't know he's from TEXAS!
respect to this gigantic creator.
18:26 the guy in the red shirt to the left of Lord British has the most awkward, prolonged, forced smile EVER
Not such a secret passage anymore..

A lot of the on-board equipment was built in the 80s. Chris Hadfield has some pretty good HD footage, though.
RampageZGaming
I see, thanks-
i never played a single game from him. but i like this guy so much. and his house is awesome!!
he told it like having a human fetus at home is a normal thing :D
This man has everything in his life that i dream of, its awsome!
Dream to be a good person, not a guy off TH-cam.
So you've been going to space when you should have been doing more important things for humanity.
Like remaking Ultima Online.
his house is the best ive ever seen. MTV cribs all combined couldn't touch this!
Amazing house. So jealous. Grew up playing his games on my Commodore 64. Ultima IV is my favorite game in the series, and of all time. Fascinating guy.
Why does he need a kickstarter campaign for his new video game if he can pay $20 million to go to space
I played UO with this guy. So awesome.
I have so much memories with UO. DAMN... I miss the good old UO days.

Timing is everything.
That electrocution thing's a bit strange.
House of my dreams!
If an opportunity came up in my life to go to space at any time, I would drop anything I had going on to do it.
This is the most important piece of history.
ultima online still is the only true mmorpg 2 me
That's exactly how I feel about Everquest. New mmorpgs blow. =/
www.uoforever.com/
Such a geek's geek. awesome man and completely content to live out his geeky and well deserved dreams
That's kind of creepy how he has real human skeletons, real shrunken heads, and real human embryos in his house
Ultima III and IV were the high points of the series. Anyone else remember those? Before everything had to be 3D with lots of special effects. It was more like a computerized board game, and it was great.
what a pimp house, i want a telescope like that one in my house to.
lord british resides in austin that is awesome!
The secret passages are incredible, but not so secret anymore. Wonder if that left him a bit empty now that the whole world knows how to stealth around his own house.
R.I.P. Ultima Online. I miss you Catskills .
All he needed to hear was, " you can't to it" & he it possible. feeling enlightened to pursue My goals.
The house is amazing.
I loved him before but now a new respect.
This is the character that inspired the "douchebag" insult.
I remember ending up in space at the end of Ultima I. Flying that space shuttle around... Great game. Played it on the old 5 1/4in floppy.
I think i have a new personal hero...
why I cant find any of these videos from Motherboard Channel?

Good for him!
Lord H-TOWN what up from a fellow member of the space city!
Forget the BS about what he has done, look at what this guy has collected, gotta give him quick a huge amount of respect for that.... who has a "collection" of Sputniks?

great video!

There are some people on this Earth that do not deserve their wealth, this man is certainly not one of them :D Inspirational

Such a well deserved wealth to a magnificently creative mind
He lives it how he wants to live it. That's his right.
This was amazing.
Lord British has the coolest house in the universe.
Great guy with great house :D
amazing man
I like Richard Garriot. The Ultima games were amazing
Or, as the family refers to him, Sir Pack Rat.
Going to Space > Everything
Also, he didn't fade into obscurity, he's developing a new game called Shroud of the Avatar, which looks amazing.
Very interesting I don't think I blinked once lol
ladies and gentlemen this is how Millionaire Geeks live.
I know that feel bro. **hugs**
Ultima Online T2A bestest game ever.
dopest cribs ever
I remember reading it was for sale recently...
where is the HIGH QUALITY!? cmon dudes!

Games have come a long way, they used to be so shitty i dont think i could do it. Respect for the people who had to play those games.
lol i remember something of a telescope in the castle of Lord British in the Ultima games :D
Howard Wolowitz
He is talking about gaming industry more specificly MMORPGs.
OMG what an awesome house! He should make it a secret dungeon in one of his games or mmorpgs =p.
I need to Fucking design a god dam video game stat!!!
for the love of god someone tell me how to make that spiky oily contraption
btw that's my dream house.
I watched a day with a Russian billionaire last night either on this channel or on "Vice", and I can honestly say I'd much rather have Richard Garriott's life.
astronauts all looked pissed. haha fuck em. this is the future of space!
One man id most definitely enjoy meeting (oh no... My profile picture.... I'll have to explain that one won't i?)
I would get along with this guy pretty well.
Not so secret passages now
no hd...
Cool video Richard (Lord British) Any chance you could see your way to finishing Shroud of the Avatar that has been in Early Access for four years? Tar.
I think this house was up for sale a few years ago......
Did anyone else get a little upset at the simplification of modern CPUs? Has this guy seen the x86 instruction set? Or does he have that much cred that he hasn't had to worry about the hardware since the 6502?
This dude is HEKTIC!
still not for my pocket.
FUCK. he put the Neverland ranch to a straight shame...
Butthirt hahaha nvr hear that one, nice... I cant stop laughing.
RIP Tabula Rasa.
Angel Island Knights of Trinsic HOAAAAAAA!!!!
Okay so anybody concerned about him having a human fetus in a fucking jar??..
Looks like someone is feeling jelly :)
Tabula Rasa was ok but underwhelming, but the Ultima games were awesome. Especially Ultima 7 and Ultima Online.
MTV cribs - Rich Nerds edition
Wait, you don't have one in your living room?????
Holy shit this guy is fucking cool.
Aliens that look like humans? Allot of celeb musicians saying they are different and from out of space? Conspiracies...
the fact that he thinks he has to explain what a multiplayer game is tells it all.
he will burn and fall.
mark my words.
*****
what does that have to do with anything.
btw, Godwin’s law states you just lost this argument, and we didnt even have one.
UO Online was good, hey Richard Garriot maybe its time to do a new Ultima single player ?!?!?
interesting dude!
It's too bad he went absolutely bonkers after UO and Ultima 7
You probably could have done it, to them, those graphics were just like an xbox360 or PS3 to us. That's why they literally think OUR games look real.
Do you have a source on that? Because I heard the publisher forced changes on him and created an unworkable enviorment
got rich of games that even he now admits were terrible, or were terribly implemented.
This is the nerd version of neverland
JESUS

nah it would have happened anyway
Lol... Lord English
He has too much time and money. Do something worth while for humanity bro!!!
Hmmm if I had loads of money to spend on stuff n things, then I'd probably build a Ferret theme park! For Ferrets only! No Humans!
