One thing I notice that 80-90% of players struggle with in Smite is poor positioning and overextending. These same players also usually lack spatial awareness, good dodging/juke skills, or the knowledge of how to soft peel for themselves long enough for you to catch up to and try to save them. This usually causes them to begin feeding and start BMing their team in VGS. These are things that came naturally to me immediately to about a month or so in playing Smite. This is an issue that is especially prevalent with the ADHD young kids types, and on console. TL;DR : *Duke do you think you can do a video on the Do's and don'ts of how to Position properly?* How to tell when you're overextending for kills, and when to know when to let a kill go (due to the danger of the enemy team turning the tables on you with CC + numbers). Also how to dodge/juke, peel, and delay for yourself if you get caught of of position while help comes. It's something I find hard to explain as a concept to new players who forget constantly, and something that is probably easier shown. Hopefully a vid can help educate newer more impatient players, and get them up to get up to speed.
Wing X Custom I HAVE THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM. And also nobody ever wants to solo, wich i end up doing. And in all my time playing solo, my opponents all play like dogshit. Though i myself dont know what to do late game. So i just get super feeded at early game, destroy 2 enemy towers and just stand there like an idiot trying to protect my team/ try to use my early advantage to kill their hunter/ mid.
When to break from the group, stop chasing and to return to fountain are the first things I teach people. I'm a support/guardian main too (and I play on xbox) I get to observe so much of what people do and how it turns out since I'm always on the frontline.
I agree it's a huge problem, but I doubt a video on it would change much about it. I mean, most people don't even react to a "follow me" when getting chased and you're coming towards them. A lot of it also comes down to warding, which I can only tell people to do so often before we reach the point where we know they simply won't do it.
This and your last "How to" video on counter building are great, (and long overdue) Duke. You're very knowledgeable when it comes to game understanding and mechanics. This saves me time when newer players/friends ask me for guidance while we're playing. Now Instead of going into a long drawn out discussion which will just bore them, I can just refer them to your vids. Here's hoping many more inexperienced players out there find your explanations insightful.
Have been a lurker for a while DukeSloth but today I’m subscribing! I Have to say I love what you do for the community. You take the game seriously and your love for it and the community shows. Your explanations are agreeable because it sounds like you actually do your research however, your openness to a discussion with the community is also admirable as well! Keep it up dukesloth! Smite Legend!
Solid video. The only caveat that I would add is that all the asssins can work as all-ins in the right context, though I will say that's covered by your "none of this is cookie-cutter" thing at the start. For instance, I usually play da ji as an all-in, initiating with my 3 into my 1 and/or 4 and using the 2 to put distance between myself and the enemy while damaging or mitigating. Is it the safest playstyle? Certainly not. Is it fun? Hell yes :)
A video idea from me would be maybe the phases of the game/what each role should be doing during said phases. Farm, team fight, obj contests, stuff like that. Kind of a broad question but I think you could make it understandable for someone like me :)
Right! Great vids duke. I knew most of this stuff already but I still watched the whole thing and this would be really helpful for newer players. I often find myself playing with people that don’t know what they’re doing and I don’t send them here because most of the basic guides are outdated. But these are good
Not sure if you've done a video already on this but it would be good for a video with a comprehensive in-depth guide on jungle routes like for the jungler how they typically due speed, back xp, mana then to mid xp, mid wave then red then wave then either invade enemy jungle backs or do your own and then what to focus on after that. Just maybe a route path/options for all roles.
I was worried that you were going to overgeneralize the Warriors (my favorite class) but I'm quite satisfied that you didn't. Maybe some Hunter or even Mage mains will say you overgeneralized those classes, which I can understand. I think it's enough that you made the distinctions in the Mage class between the Mage ADCs/Assassins/Mage Bruisers because too many times have I come across full damage Hades/Zhong Qui and expect to blow up the enemy team while being right in front of their face. I'd hate to overgeneralize the Hunters because that isn't fair. Although all Hunters use auto attacks to deal damage, I do think there is a distinction between the Hunters who are late game hyper-carries who focus on crit autos (Artemis, Ah Muzen Cab, Rama) and those who come online closer to mid-game because of they are more ability focused (Neith, Skadi, Ullr). That's the best I can do xD although, in a team fight in general, Hunters are the back line who deal damage to primary targets. Back to my Warrior discussion, I consider Guardians to be initiators while Warriors are the jack-of-all-trades gods. Hear me out. Guardians overall have more crowd control than Warriors, so when it comes to initiating, I feel Guardians are better at that, but that also makes them good peelers. With the other tools they have for peeling that Warriors generally don't have, I can see why Guardians are considered better peelers. But I feel Warriors need to deal a significant amount of damage to be considered useful because they have less cc. My arguement: you can build full tank on a Guardian and be easily successful but can't do that quite as easily on Warriors, who need one or two damage items (Frostbound, Gladiator Shield, Masamune) to make an impact. Then again, you play Conquest while I play other game modes where Guardians are almost always initiators while Warriors adjust to the situation accordingly because they are very flexible as a class. So things are different that way. TL;DR: I'm happy you didn't overgeneralize Warriors :)
I agree in the split in hunters between hyper carries and ability focus, but that would be something for a topic of power curves, not what's happening in teamfights or their positioning. In the end, either of them probably ends up in the backline. In a well-coordinated team an adc like Jing might be better off pushing forward to utilize all her steroids but that's generally not applicable for most games.
I play a lot of hunters, mainly cause my buddy plays support and he wants to lane with me in conquest. I do think there are the three types of hunters, AA based (Rama, Artemis, Hachiman) and the more ability based (Skadi, Ulr, Cernunnos) then the more hybrid hunters who mainly use abilities to help with their autos or maybe use it more in a team fight (Hou Yi, Chernobog, Medusa).
xzero 737 That last one is the "in between" class xD Honestly, I don't like how that was used in this video. I get it that it's the role where the god can do more than one thing, but to me it feels like a "put everything else here" pile
Make a video about the new ranked system and if it will be healthy to limit players to only be able to play alone in ranked. Imo it's very bad to limit players from playing rankeds with a friend, because casuals aren't fun.
Capitolino Andrioleta probably because some people don't want shit players in high Elo just because they got carried by their friend or won a game because there were 2 parties of 2. Solo queue only is a good idea imo
Every time I play Arena, I play speed vamana. I think vamana has the highest base speed out of any God. I usually go 10 and O unless they have two Guardians.
i was wondering if you can make a video revisiting the executioner/titan bane interaction now that titans bane has been nerfed. just something that's been in the back of my mind
Let's say you are an artemis(or any AA based god) which is a straightforward goddess with attack speed which most people build into crit. If we take the usual artemis crit build against a squishy mage/adc it would very effective since you burst them down fast with crit and the penetration of executioner(which should always build). Against a warrior or a guardian it's different, you would need more attacks to damage a tanky opponent even with executioner, so in a 1v1 scenario artemis can kill everyone...but that's how things worked in previous seasons. Now guardians and warriors have the option to build into midgardian mail and hide of the nemean lion together making AA gods kill themselves especially if they have crit. So if an osiris ults an artemis while he has both of these items that artemis will not only do very little damage against him but she is nuking her hp/attack speed/and movement thanks to nemean and mail. So personally when i see any god picking these 2 items i do not go for crit but executioner+titans bane and i will tell you why: if we take the base psys defense values of osiris we get 77 at lvl 20 77+40(mail)+70(nemean)=187 and if they have an aura (sov, thebes)it goes up to 200 which means that titans *ignores 40% physical defense* Also how much defense do you ignore? If they had 200 defense after 3 basics it will be as if they had 76. So it would be as if that osiris didn't have physical defense items at all. On top of that you can even fit quins in that build to make sure they are going to die and add only deathbringer as a crit item. Sorry for the long post
A small edit that i realized just as i wrote this one. Yea if the titans bane wording is correct if you apply 3 stack of executioner that 200 physical defense goes to 128 so titans would not scale to 40% physical pen because their defense at that point is not 200 but 128 so it would scale accordingly...to 25% pen, so it's not as if they had 76 defense but 96.....yea...but the fact that it counters said comb is still true
His clear is pretty much a fire-and-forget and when it can clear waves you pretty much never see your opponent any more because they plop that down, go invis and run around so Loki is also extremely predictable in his move-set and can be countered fairly easily in solo since the target is expecting it usually.
You have to keep in mind that we're talking about warriors, not necessarily solos. Could also be sups. All initiators mostly focus on diving backline while the "inbetween" characters are frontlining more frequently.
Jonathon 922 hi, advice from a random person who has been playing for a long while now. Just make sure you are one of those players who can let go. Even if you beat someone down to like 10 health dont keep chasing them and allow yourself to be killed because you cant let go of the kill
This so much! Any time I meet someone new to Smite and I offer to help them a bit, the first things I teach them is when to back from lane, and when to stop the chase.
I message people in casual conquest that get on my team and have no idea what they are doing your videos, helping the community. Better me do that than release my inner toxic.
If you are playing Hercules, please use your 2 (earthbreaker) but DON'T USE YOUR 1 (driving strike) cause what is the point of sending the enemy towards your team, if you are just gonna push them back? This happens way too often and it is annoying
you can walk forward a bit just after the 2 so you can turn around and use your 1 to push them further, don't know if you know this but thought I'd point it out for others
I find that Hel often ends up being more long-range than expected, with most of her kit still working at long range and the heal making it beneficial to be close to the team. Going close/mid-range makes her easier to punish unless she has a bruiser build so you need a better team for it to work though it most certainly is possible. Disagree on Khepri though.
DukeSloth yeah, i usually build her bruiser And ok, maybe Khepris root isnt initiation per se but 2s of being unable to move is often enough to get the follow-up dmg/cc or use abduct afterwards
mosescuh 184 depends... he has a predictable cone stun. People can slip around you at your sides, or jump over him while casting and people will just beads to continue chasing his wall is good if placed right but yet again if they have a leap it’s not doing much. It really depend on the team comp. also his ult doesn’t provide the initiation or hard cc aoe peel that other guardians have
Anubis is long range in most fights, so he falls under the general mages that aren't listed. Unless ahead, you will rarely go close just to use your 1.

Class named Guardian that implies guarding your teamamtes from harm. Contains only one god dedicated tokeeping eye over their teammates. GJ HiRez
Khepri?
I don’t know where this endless stream of awesome vids came from but keep it coming duke!

Smite Legend!
Thanks for making the video duke. You're the best!
You should do a video about when is it a good time to gank different lanes and how to initiate with each lane
Already covered that a while ago in the pros talking about season 5 jungle vid! Adapting had a part on it
DukeSloth , did you just day ravana is a warrior?
Solid video. Memphis Giles there's a "dictionary" tab in the game (forget if that's the exact name) where it explains most of the lingo
Right! Great vids duke. I knew most of this stuff already but I still watched the whole thing and this would be really helpful for newer players. I often find myself playing with people that don’t know what they’re doing and I don’t send them here because most of the basic guides are outdated. But these are good
Duke thank you for the hard work. This video was important for me because i am a hercules main looking to branch out.
Your new videos are fire! This and the counter building one are perfect to introduce to friends who are newer to Smite. Keep them coming :)
You have been killing it with these videos lately, keep it up.
Hey Duke, I feel like there should be a 'What ever happened' for Vulcan. What do you think?
Geb's roll is so much fun as an initiate or intimidate. It also works by just rolling around them so they can't flee.
Very helpful duke. More basic information vids like this please!
Knowing who you can fight and when you can fight them makes any carry role in conquest crazy easy.
would Agni be medium range since you need to get close after a bomb stun to hit flame wave?

Loving this series
Another video idea is
Smite / mmo words and phrases like peel, gank ,and others for new people
Jonathon 922 already a video
You can check in the learn tab for most, if not all terms

Can you please update the video "gods by power curve"?
Wouldn't it be nice if Vamana passive would stack pre-ult ...
Can you do a building for beginners?
What about Poseidon? Where does he fit?
Just started playing on ps4. My guan yu solo build is getting wrecked by Izanami and Arachne. Any advice on countering these guys?
i was wondering if you can make a video revisiting the executioner/titan bane interaction now that titans bane has been nerfed. just something that's been in the back of my mind
Justin Melendez I see them build both in the pro league all the time and it always leaves me confused

How about a guide on how to build offensive supports and bruisers like erlang shen or cabroken *ahem* cabrakan
I need more details I can lane with no problem the team fight stage is where I fall off
I love Loki but I despise anyone that plays Loki solo
TheProdigy 177 same, Loki does not belong in Conquest
Why?

Of course just in my experience of course fought a number of them, and been on teams with a number of them.
Vigil he can be easily countered and most gods do the solo/adc roles better.
The solos should definetly be categorised different, it should be diving backline/frontlining or both
I get thats probably what u mean, but hard initiating with a support or a solo is very different
You have to keep in mind that we're talking about warriors, not necessarily solos. Could also be sups. All initiators mostly focus on diving backline while the "inbetween" characters are frontlining more frequently.
Been playing smite for a while now
Wanted to know else should we learn or get perfected

I'm still waiting for that new outro dukesloth
why you play with vamana ?
You didn't do all the mages, is it because it's mostly self explanatory?
I message people in casual conquest that get on my team and have no idea what they are doing your videos, helping the community. Better me do that than release my inner toxic.

Noremarc I know this, but many hercules players I have played with don't know this. Thank you for mentioning that tho
Great vid
How come you didn't mention all of the gods?
what we learned from this video - always blame Loki.
You forgot Hel
She is close/mid range
And Khepris root is a good engage
I find that Hel often ends up being more long-range than expected, with most of her kit still working at long range and the heal making it beneficial to be close to the team. Going close/mid-range makes her easier to punish unless she has a bruiser build so you need a better team for it to work though it most certainly is possible.
Disagree on Khepri though.
DukeSloth yeah, i usually build her bruiser
And ok, maybe Khepris root isnt initiation per se but 2s of being unable to move is often enough to get the follow-up dmg/cc or use abduct afterwards
Damn that Nemesis was annoying
Where’s Agni :,(
I think you forgot to place Ra
Where is isis is she long range mage ?
Discordia? I know you aren't forgetting my main!
Pls update this
Assassin's should steal enemies speed buff
You do realize that you missed out Ra right?
Ymir has really good peel
mosescuh 184 depends... he has a predictable cone stun. People can slip around you at your sides, or jump over him while casting and people will just beads to continue chasing his wall is good if placed right but yet again if they have a leap it’s not doing much. It really depend on the team comp. also his ult doesn’t provide the initiation or hard cc aoe peel that other guardians have
TFW Duke forgets Egyptian gods exist. :(
Finally baron is balanced
I absolutely love that he didn’t mention Anubis as an Anubis main that would love to not be THAT GUY when playing Anubis. >/sarcasm
Eternal Blue he just isn't viable right now.
Anubis is long range in most fights, so he falls under the general mages that aren't listed. Unless ahead, you will rarely go close just to use your 1.
Carlos Marte My positive win percentage says OTHERWISE
Eternal Blue and what rank are you? Silver?
DukeSloth I understand, but thanks for replying, Duke! I was mainly being sarcastic and trying to make a joke about how much my best god is ignored by the pro/ranked scene.
no hel mention :(
(Joke disclaimer)
2:30
Yeah uhmmm... kuzenbo...
You just want to build 900 power and pray that their adc is shit to try and 1v1 him. Otherwise you can also try to build armor and try to engage, only for your team, with wich you cant communicate (because casual ps4), run away and see you die.
What about Ra 😎
so are u a carry?
Any Thanatos mains out there?
I rather fight a loki jungle team than ne zha she/he is absolutely broken
Amaterasuuu
Ugh Ravana is assassin in 5.13
sexy mechanics enough said
But we’re is hel
This is just a game and these are not real Gods but characters in the game. There is only one God and that is Jesus Christ
Nu Wa?
Whoops, thought I added her to mid range. Had her in mind but then forgot to mention her I guess, my bad!
WARRIORS UNITE!
