Congratulations :D I'm with Jonathan when it comes to the green baby. The one thing that irks me a bit about the comments is that random internet strangers say "I was wondering when the family would grow" as if it's a given that it will. Comments like that can be very painful to people if they do want a second child but are not able to. Or rude when they don't want a second child but a stranger is pushing their opinion or hopes on them. I even think this when it's not about strangers but family members, but for Pete's sake if you are a stranger mind your own business.

I'm saying this with the best intentions for you: Try being less offended. Sure some things might not be great for some people and there definitely are douchebags out there, however if you focus to much on that it just darkens your own day. Being offended really is a mental thing, which means you can also not get offended anymore just by thinking about it differently.

You are so right about baby clothes: 20 of each item for girls, 3 for boys. And once they are about 3, not even more teddy bears or planes, just stripes or "Harvard". I was so happy shopping for my little girl, after having a boy first. But aside from the clothes, small boys and small girls are both adorable. Congratulations and enjoy your pregnancy. I'll keep watching because I had both of my children in Turkey as a foreigner - so I can compare to Germany.

Congratulations! Being pregnant having a toddler can be a nightmare. But it's so we worth it, when the age gap isn't too big. Our little ones are now 7, 4 and 2 years old and it is a blessing 🥰
My brother is 9 years younger than me. My mom asked me a few times to take care of him for an hour or two (to say "No" was always an option) and we never fought about toys. This is the good side of a big age gap. In the other hand, they rose two single kids and had to take care of preteens for almost 20 years

And sometimes I took him and a friend to special occasiones I was going with my friends (the beach or skating on a frozen lake). I knew he wouldn't be annoying and he knew, it would have been the last trip if he was annoying. We were, and still are, quite close and always stood together against annoying parents.

And considering the building blocks: You,ve gotten used to them and know never to step down with too much weight, so you won't hurt yourself. That,s so much easier than having a girl cry her eyes out because you just stomped her doll to death.
Finally it's your turn too, on almost all the channels I've followed here in the last year there have been announcements of offspring or the family has expanded a bit and now you've announced it. Congratulations. I got lucky with my last child because he was born and literally a week later they threw up all the covid rules so my parents had managed to sneak in and see him and I was allowed in the hospital. On a positive note the pandemic is officially over now in Germany so hopefully they'll drop the last of the restrictions soon.
Congratulations, what a nice Christmas surprise for all of us watching!! 🥳 I am so happy for the three of you and also happy, that Jack's little brother is healthy and growing as he's supposed to be. I am due in June, but we'll have twins, so we might get our babys the same time around. I think you're lucky that you didn't know about your pregnancy that early, because I can imagine you would've been very anxious about the bleeding. My Frauenarzt also allows the father only to join the three big scans and he was also allowed to join for the First Trimester Screening. I think it's better than nothing, but I would've needed him on the first scan as I was very anxious. Enjoy your second trimester and Merry Christmas to you all!
About the midwifes: actually the birth itself is always accompanied by a midwife. A doctor is only present if there is a problem and afterwards to check the baby.
Possibly the restrictions vary from place to place. My local gynecologist allows my husband to come along for the three major ultrasounds, however under the condition that he is fully vaccinated (and boostered) or he can present a simple negative Covid test. Concerning midwives: Yes, it can be a struggle here. Although I was only a few weeks pregnant by the time I was officially diagnosed by my gynecologist, he urged me to call our local "midwife distribution agency" and to inquire for a midwife. Turns out, even in big cities there is a shortage of midwives. All the best for you and your growing family!
Second and third pregnancies always go by real fast compared to the first one, because the first time you’re just waiting and from then on you always have someone to keep you busy!

I really liked how you put all of this in one video, of course to save from any sudden changes that might occur early in the pregnancy but for us to have all these parts, finding out, telling family, finding out gender etc in one video was so nice. Although I still can't but think now you gotta go for number three to roll the gender dice once more haha I know many think 2 are perfect but somehow many end up with 3 ultimately :D But 2 boys so close in age definitely will be helpful with keeping them busy, Jack's now got a built in playing buddy!

Congratulations. We "forgot" the Mutterpass last week for our first appointment at the Frauenarzt. So the second child will have it own when it grows up. Now my wife has to carry both but this will be worth it.
First of all my congratulations to you. These are some exciting news and I am happy for you guys. Beeing pregnant watching and feeling the baby grow in you and eventually giving birth is a really special experience. My first pregnancy was completely unplanned and unexpected and came in a very difficult time in my life. When I had my first doctor's appointment I was already about 14 weeks pregnant. Funny enough cause I think Jack and my firstborn share the same birthday date. Of course some years apart, as the result just turned 14 a month ago. But until today it still doesn't make sense to me because I don't know how I could have gotten pregnant at this point. I also had my monthly period. I would have loved to do some check up appointments at a midwife but I had gestation diabetes and had to inject insulin and that made it a high risk pregnancy and I had to go to the doctor's every time. I really felt pushed around medically wise. Like I had to go and see so many different doctors. It was annoying even though I knew it was for the greater good.
Herzlichen Glückwunsch. Unser Hausarzt hat noch immer strenge Regeln. Er sagt, daß es nicht nur zu seinem Schutz ist, sondern auch für die verschiedenen empfindlichen Personen, die in seine Praxis kommen.
It is not only your gynecologist, most gynecologists in Bayern, where I live, have the same restrictions. It is quite sad, because if they do a test, desinfect their hands and wear a mask, then the partners don't pose any danger. I wish doctors would reconsider taking away such precious moments from dads.

I completely understand your frustration about covid-related protocols and I really do hope, that experience will not be as extreme as it has probably have been with Jack. But I really do feel, it has become a kind of new normal. My twitter feed is full of alarming anecdotes about how our medical sector in Germany is still completely overwhelmed and in deep trouble and not really recovering from the pandemic. I kind of fear, yes, this might be part of the new normal. I really do hope that your pregnancy this time will still work out fine and the fact that you found a midwife gives me the hope that you have still a confident journey. About that "it was starting to show" thing: When I watched that Amtrak video, I might have "noticed something", but maybe it is just me but I am conditioned to be absolutely unassuming with things like that. Why should I be in a position to think about something like that? So yes, for me it was still an absolute surprise, when the title of your video came up. Again, all my best wishes!
In America, I went to a mainstream hospital for both of my kids and saw mostly midwives. Since I was not high risk the OB was only present for a couple visits. It’s far more common now in the states because of costs.

As a father with a 7 year old girl and 4 year old boy. Two is a good number. But i totally understand trying for a third, to have the experience of having a girl growing up in your home. Then again my cousin has three boys... she really wanted a girl. It backfired a bit, i remember a neighbour who had three boys then tried for a girl, she got them... twin girls. My oldest is the most tough and capable soccer player in our town. (Totally ubiased dad opinion). 😁
First of all, congrats to a new gummybear. Uuups, I know americans are a bit crazy from our point of view about naming their kids, but I think you have been already through the strict naming conventions here in Germany. Crossing m fingers that the whole pregnancy with gummybear(damned named him again that way) will go smooth and finally both of you will be healthy. Also congrats to Jonathan for his coming son and Jack for his coming brother. At least Merry Christmas to all of you. Have a nice break and enjoy the christmas days.
Naming shouldn't really be an issue. German Standesämter have some rules, yes, but will usually accept a first name even if it is not a typical German first name as long as it is common in another country and not mostly known as a name for a geographic place, a brand name or a name that affects the fundamental rights of a child because it is too ridiculous or has another negative impact on a child's dignity. Just don't call it something like "Mississippi", "Nutella", "Adolf" or "Osama bin Laden" and it will probably fine.

I got lucky with my last child because he was born and literally a week later they threw up all the covid rules so my parents had managed to sneak in and see him and I was allowed in the hospital. On a positive note the pandemic is officially over now in Germany so hopefully they'll drop the last of the restrictions soon.

Congratulations, what a nice Christmas surprise for all of us watching!! 🥳 I am so happy for the three of you and also happy, that Jack's little brother is healthy and growing as he's supposed to be. I am due in June, but we'll have twins, so we might get our babys the same time around. I think you're lucky that you didn't know about your pregnancy that early, because I can imagine you would've been very anxious about the bleeding. My Frauenarzt also allows the father only to join the three big scans and he was also allowed to join for the First Trimester Screening. I think it's better than nothing, but I would've needed him on the first scan as I was very anxious.

About the midwifes: actually the birth itself is always accompanied by a midwife. A doctor is only present if there is a problem and afterwards to check the baby.

Possibly the restrictions vary from place to place. My local gynecologist allows my husband to come along for the three major ultrasounds, however under the condition that he is fully vaccinated (and boostered) or he can present a simple negative Covid test.
Concerning midwives: Yes, it can be a struggle here. Although I was only a few weeks pregnant by the time I was officially diagnosed by my gynecologist, he urged me to call our local "midwife distribution agency" and to inquire for a midwife. Turns out, even in big cities there is a shortage of midwives.

Congrats! I really liked how you put all of this in one video, of course to save from any sudden changes that might occur early in the pregnancy but for us to have all these parts, finding out, telling family, finding out gender etc in one video was so nice.
Although I still can't but think now you gotta go for number three to roll the gender dice once more haha I know many think 2 are perfect but somehow many end up with 3 ultimately :D But 2 boys so close in age definitely will be helpful with keeping them busy, Jack's now got a built in playing buddy!

First of all my congratulations to you. These are some exciting news and I am happy for you guys. Beeing pregnant watching and feeling the baby grow in you and eventually giving birth is a really special experience.
My first pregnancy was completely unplanned and unexpected and came in a very difficult time in my life. When I had my first doctor's appointment I was already about 14 weeks pregnant. Funny enough cause I think Jack and my firstborn share the same birthday date. Of course some years apart, as the result just turned 14 a month ago. But until today it still doesn't make sense to me because I don't know how I could have gotten pregnant at this point. I also had my monthly period.
I would have loved to do some check up appointments at a midwife but I had gestation diabetes and had to inject insulin and that made it a high risk pregnancy and I had to go to the doctor's every time. I really felt pushed around medically wise. Like I had to go and see so many different doctors. It was annoying even though I knew it was for the greater good.
Herzlichen Glückwunsch. Unser Hausarzt hat noch immer strenge Regeln. Er sagt, daß es nicht nur zu seinem Schutz ist, sondern auch für die verschiedenen empfindlichen Personen, die in seine Praxis kommen.

It is not only your gynecologist, most gynecologists in Bayern, where I live, have the same restrictions. It is quite sad, because if they do a test, desinfect their hands and wear a mask, then the partners don't pose any danger. I wish doctors would reconsider taking away such precious moments from dads.

I completely understand your frustration about covid-related protocols and I really do hope, that experience will not be as extreme as it has probably have been with Jack. But I really do feel, it has become a kind of new normal. My twitter feed is full of alarming anecdotes about how our medical sector in Germany is still completely overwhelmed and in deep trouble and not really recovering from the pandemic. I kind of fear, yes, this might be part of the new normal. I really do hope that your pregnancy this time will still work out fine and the fact that you found a midwife gives me the hope that you have still a confident journey.
About that "it was starting to show" thing: When I watched that Amtrak video, I might have "noticed something", but maybe it is just me but I am conditioned to be absolutely unassuming with things like that. Why should I be in a position to think about something like that? So yes, for me it was still an absolute surprise, when the title of your video came up.

In America, I went to a mainstream hospital for both of my kids and saw mostly midwives. Since I was not high risk the OB was only present for a couple visits. It’s far more common now in the states because of costs.

As a father with a 7 year old girl and 4 year old boy.
Two is a good number. But i totally understand trying for a third, to have the experience of having a girl growing up in your home.
Then again my cousin has three boys... she really wanted a girl. It backfired a bit, i remember a neighbour who had three boys then tried for a girl, she got them... twin girls.
My oldest is the most tough and capable soccer player in our town. (Totally ubiased dad opinion). 😁

First of all, congrats to a new gummybear. Uuups, I know americans are a bit crazy from our point of view about naming their kids, but I think you have been already through the strict naming conventions here in Germany. Crossing m fingers that the whole pregnancy with gummybear(damned named him again that way) will go smooth and finally both of you will be healthy. Also congrats to Jonathan for his coming son and Jack for his coming brother. At least Merry Christmas to all of you. Have a nice break and enjoy the christmas days.
Naming shouldn't really be an issue. German Standesämter have some rules, yes, but will usually accept a first name even if it is not a typical German first name as long as it is common in another country and not mostly known as a name for a geographic place, a brand name or a name that affects the fundamental rights of a child because it is too ridiculous or has another negative impact on a child's dignity. Just don't call it something like "Mississippi", "Nutella", "Adolf" or "Osama bin Laden" and it will probably fine.
