Unfortunately there isn't any mention of agencies within the Department of the Interior. The US Park Police, BLM, BIA, and the National Park Rangers all have direct contact policing/enforcement duties. They are assaulted at greater rates than any other agency.
In BP a good 95% of the people we apprehend is the typical immigrant from Mexico/Central America that are coming to the U.S. for a better life. However, there is that five percent that you have to be on the lookout. Great video! You nailed it.
Hi Leon Alfaro I'm 21 and after taking some time off college I plan on returning to school to earn my degree. However I'm a bit confused on what degree should I major in because I plan to have a career with customs and border protection as a agriculture specialist or customs officer or even Border Patrol. I don't have any "Police" experience. Any advice you would recommend for me? I would much appreciate because it's hard enough for me to find a cbp/bp officer online I could talk to.
I’m starting to like the sound of DEA. I like the idea of doing some street work along with investigation work in conjunction. Might up applied if I actually had college time. Looking at BP right now.
Go BP and ask for Laredo south station! You’ll be busy all night with chases and fights running through neighborhoods and houses. Hitting stash houses etc! You’re welcome
Yes...Street cops deal with way more shit than just smugglers and every day migrants.. I applaud the men and women who patrol the streets@@jacobcortez688
I was a special agent for what is now the Defense Counterintelligence and Security Agency, DOD conducting background investigations. No danger whatsoever.
What educational path did you take to become a DEA agent? I’m looking to become an agent in the future and want to know what I should do early on to set myself up for a successful future as a member of the organization.
After I completed my service, I finished my BA degree. Basically, it just about impossible to obtain employment as a federal criminal investigator without a degree. If you do not have investigative experience, you will need a GPA of at least 2.9 or higher.
@@federallawenforcementcaree9900 nowadays I think you need either military or some kind of law enforcement experience. I applied with a masters in public administration and had federal law enforcement internships but was not selected after passing all the steps of the process.
I've been a State Trooper and I've been a Border Patrol Agent. Trooper is a hell of a dangerous job. BP was dangerous is extremely physical. BP is a COMPLETE DIFFERENT BEAST.
So would you comment on the shooting incident in Tuscon that left one DEA agent killed and one seriously injured? This seems to coincide with your comment that DEA and Border Patrol are the two most dangerous federal law enforcement agencies.
BP physical dangers from vehicle accidents and mishaps are a big factor. Investigators of all types can at least control the operational environment more so than uniforms. I do think the BP, DEA and USMS are in their own danger club.
USMS more than DEA only a select few DEA agents go outside the office. USMS even in court can be called to do a raid and BP is more like local PD or Sheriffs for the boarder. BP might actually be safer than patrol officers because they typically go in groups but thats my assumption ive never worked with BP. DEA and USMS are from my own experience.
@@dr.foxysocks2459in BP you’re often working by yourself. I remember working assignments an hour out from the station and having to apprehend groups of 15+ by myself. If anything went down, back up is at least 30 min away. That’s the danger in it.

I will give you the advise I wish I got. Either join the military or go into federal corrections through USAJOBS and type in BOP (bureau of prisons). If you can learn spanish but just military/correctional experience you will go ahead of people with college degrees. good luck
@@Gabriel_the_Shemite Yes, any type of correctional experience will help you in law enforcement it just depends on what you want. So if you want to be FBI, ATF, US Marshals, DEA or any federal type of law enforcement the reason you go into the federal corrections (bureau of prisons or military) is because you are already in the federal system and you have priority to be hired otherwise you are an outsider. County will help regardless but its more beneficial for the department you are wanting to be a cop in. For example, if I want to be a Deputy Sheriff with Los Angeles but they only give me Corrections and I take it and apply again. I am already working with LA so if someone from San Diego corrections wants to be an LA Sheriff to they will go after me because I work with LA Sheriffs already. You can use county sheriff corrections to go federal and still get it because you have experience its just better to already be in the federal system. I got into the feds by doing county corrections so its not impossible but military takes priority over college all day long. unless you already work with the county you are applying to or you are a federal corrections officer applying to a federal law enforcement position. Sorry for the long response but I hope this will help guide you in making a decision. Most agencies want a Bachelors now and I suggest getting it before starting a law enforcement career you will be too busy to go to school.
