2:13:57 One of the top 3 defensive plays I have ever seen in the history of football at any level. This should be in the film room of every defensive coordinator to demonstrate what maximum effort looks like in a football game. Yes, a whole lot of this was Justin Smith and his enormous strength, but a whole lot of this was a ,man more determined to get to the quarterback than any defensive lineman ever. An unbelievable individual play that has largely been ignored because it didn't lead to a touchdown or a game winning score. It's simply one of the greatest efforts I have ever seen by an athlete in the history of sports. Justin Smith's play goes beyond football. It's an inspiration and should be an inspiration to athletes everywhere.
I don't even have to go to the time you posted to see what play you are refering to. Has to be when JS literally pushed the offensive lineman into Drew Brees and took him down while still engaged with the lineman blocking him. That man truly deserves consideration to be inducted into the HOF.

Yeah I just saw same thing man - the saints got one more TD if they have rules of today. He hit him , speared him, helmet to helmet and knocked the guy out and they awarded the 49ers the ball. That's like 1920s rules. That should have been penalty and then saints get a TD there 1st and goal at the one. Fking niners lost in next round anyway and the dum guy is crying. @@surferguy1974 Bold take on picking that time over the '11 and '12 teams. I was there (Section 20), having travelled halfway across the world to watch the first playoff game in a decade. A memorable day from every respect. Glorious weather, the city never looked more beautiful, a game for the ages. Afterwards I lost my voice for 2 days. Happy memories.
Man, the Saints have fan crushing playoff losses. This 2011 final seconds loss to Niners, 2017, Minny beats them with a miracle last second 61 yard TD, 2018, the no call PI loss in OT to Rams and then 2019 OT loss at home to Minny. I think the Saints take the cake with soul crushing playoff losses.
Loved this game because I knew my Giants would have had a hard time going into New Orleans and winning the next week. Had a feeling we were Super Bowl bound when the Niners won! Big Blue!!!!
They shoulda just knocked down the old one and built a new one right there at Hunter's Point. Santa Clara isn't even near the water much less in the Bay Area.
@@Miatacrosser they werent getting enough money from what I was told... its a shame the fans weren't more "faithful" as they always put it as being. I'm a niners fan and I have always watched them play even during some of the toughest seasons
The Monday night game against the Seahawks and the Sunday night game against the packers had the crowd ROCKING. If the team is good people will pay to come. Levi’s is getting there
More like a tail of 2 halves. 9ers Dominated 1st half, then SAINTS came Marching STRONG in the second, & only ONE Play from advancing (Just like the "Minn Miracle" last yr) I'm a lifelong N.O. fan, but I can't hate this one cuz it was just an Amazing Football Game! WhoDat for LIFE!!!
Damn. We were a fuckin squad back then. Miss those days and hate how Alex Smith was treated and taken for granted. Miss all those guys, but looking forward to this season as a Niner fan also
@Robert Johnson Did Alex raise his game? Or was there 1 great play call that lead to the easy TD run, as well as the Saints gift-wrapping them field position and making his job easy?
Still love rewatching this. Got the photo of Alex running into the end zone on my desk at work. And the greatest KO in NFL history for my money as a biased niners fan
Watching this on TV, you could tell the Fans brought the noise all game. Went to a DEVO concert that night in S.F. and ran into a friend who went to the game. First thing he tells me how loud it was for the game.
Saints fan here. This was one of the all-time great NFL playoff games, but it will be largely forgotten because the 49ers couldn’t get it done against the Giants the following week. This was just an insane football game with two very, very good football teams that year. So entertaining. And what do you know, the Saints’ D couldn’t get it done at the end of the game despite the brilliance of Drew Brees. Some things never change, eh?
it still amazes me how vernon davis hung onto that ball with harper absolutely crushing him seeing him walk off crying from that is definitely one of the more emotional sports memories i have from childhood not even affiliated with either team great game
CaliBear 415 it’s gona make us stronger now no other team could keep up with Ravens we only loss by a field goal it’s to move on with the saints and fight hard
As a relatively young cowboys fan, I didn't grow up with the cowboys-49ers rivalry, so it was pretty easy for me to root for this team, Alex Smith was a great comeback story. I was very disappointed when the team chose to bench him after a great start in 2012. I really believe SF would have won a championship with him.
Jeez how many playoff heartbreakers have the Saints had? This game, the Minnesota miracle, the non call against the Rams that robbed them of going to the super bowl. I swear after winning SB 44 they're cursed lmao.
This was one of the best playoff game I've ever seen.

I could see why you would pick them especially since they had better offensive weapons and a very solid defense, but I would rather have Harbaugh than Shanahan in the end. Harbaugh just has more confidence with his personnel more IMO
Probably the best game I ever seen
I was there (Section 20), having travelled halfway across the world to watch the first playoff game in a decade. A memorable day from every respect. Glorious weather, the city never looked more beautiful, a game for the ages. Afterwards I lost my voice for 2 days. Happy memories.
This niner squad was hella good!
Thanks for this brother, I’ve got goosebumps now just like I did when watching it live
I remember watching this game live and it still hits the same. Great game!
Amazing game. Thanks Bart. Keep posting.
This was the game that made me a 9ers fan
Facts
best game ever. alex dropped the spirit fingers on us!! that niner defense makes me wanna shed a tear just be happy it happened lol
1 OF THE TOP TEN BEST PLAYOFF GAME..WHO DAT! CONGRATULATIONS TO THE 49ERS OF OLD.
Loved this game because I knew my Giants would have had a hard time going into New Orleans and winning the next week. Had a feeling we were Super Bowl bound when the Niners won! Big Blue!!!!
I miss candlestick park that place uses to rock. I don't feel the passion in the new stadium.
Levi’s is getting there
Give Levi's a chance, 2019 season, that stadium was packed every game. its getting there
The greatest football game I have ever been to. It was so much fun as a 49ers fan.
This was a great back-and-forth match.
Miss all those guys, but looking forward to this season as a Niner fan also
He was a solid QB dumped for the overrated Kap
Alex Smith deserved to be bench.
@@RooflessVillain for a helmet to helmet hit that wasn't his fault?
@Robert Johnson Did Alex raise his game? Or was there 1 great play call that lead to the easy TD run, as well as the
Saints gift-wrapping them field position and making his job easy?
Still love rewatching this. Got the photo of Alex running into the end zone on my desk at work. And the greatest KO in NFL history for my money as a biased niners fan
One of the greatest games I attended. Niner Gang!!
4:52 RIP this legend🙏🏽 had to come back n pay my respects. RIP GOOSE
Man that was such a physical game.
Watching this on TV, you could tell the Fans brought the noise all game. Went to a DEVO concert that night in S.F. and ran into a friend who went to the game. First thing he tells me how loud it was for the game.
Watching this thinking “wow we could really hit each other back then”
yea... sports basically being ruined quickly now. they should make players sign wavers to play
We?
It’s 2011... the rules were the same as they are now. The refs just didn’t enforce them
I was living in NY at the time, still remember, we went crazy !!!
Vernon Davis’ Greatest game with the 49ers.
One of the top 3 greatest 49ers post season victories.
49ers playoff games at Candlestick were epic.
Some things never change, eh?
still one of my favorite classics of all time...Alex Smith that 28 yard TD run..wow.just wow
D.bress and J.staley are the only 2 players left still on these teams
Nope. Cameron Jordan too.
@@janossario3527 ahhhhh...yup forgot about him
This was the game that turned me into a football fan. An unforgettable classic.
Man I remember how exited my dad got when he scored and I was happy too I cant wait for us to get back on track like this
This squad was full of hitters 💥💥
Sa Nu'u yea thats so true like damn
yall ready for Saturday?!?!?!?!?!
it still amazes me how vernon davis hung onto that ball with harper absolutely crushing him seeing him walk off crying from that is definitely one of the more emotional sports memories i have from childhood not even affiliated with either team great game
Colston is one of the best recievers ive watched play the game...soo underrated
Go niners
This game was just as good as Week 14 this year in 2019 regular season
Who’s here after the tough loss to the ravens in 2019? Bang bang niner gang
CaliBear 415 it’s gona make us stronger now no other team could keep up with Ravens we only loss by a field goal it’s to move on with the saints and fight hard
We gone fuck yall up just for what happened this Sunday...
I'm here! Sunday's Saints game is a game we gotta win! Reminiscing on this game hoping it turns out like that!
49ERS 4LIFE
@@duhh4641 better luck next time
As a relatively young cowboys fan, I didn't grow up with the cowboys-49ers rivalry, so it was pretty easy for me to root for this team, Alex Smith was a great comeback story. I was very disappointed when the team chose to bench him after a great start in 2012. I really believe SF would have won a championship with him.
@Jackson Pettinato alex smith is actually a great runner.
I was there. And yes this was an epic game. We were seated next to a lot of Saints fans. And they were going crazy before the last drive.
Jeez how many playoff heartbreakers have the Saints had? This game, the Minnesota miracle, the non call against the Rams that robbed them of going to the super bowl. I swear after winning SB 44 they're cursed lmao.
The beastmode run the year before too.
Greatest game I've ever seen. Especially coming from the long playoff slump -- and all that our team went through with Nolan & Singletary.
Thanks bart hell of a game one of the greatest
I love how the ads are at the end bc that when the most exiting moments are
Bro why do the older nfl games look so beautiful idk how to explain it like the sun hitting the cam quailty everything bro
Tony Siragusa just died today.
Rest his soul.
💔😢😭💔
RIP Goose. 🪦⚰️🌹💐🕯
It's funny how Coach Harbaugh shook the hand of the N.O. this game but barely did the same for their next game afterwards
I’m so glad I was able to witness this game
What a gem this one was, top 5 playoff game ever
I couldn't be mad. The Saints left it on the field. I have never had that many emotions in a game in my life.
Honestly if the Saints didn't have all those turnovers this game.would've been an easy victory i have yet to hear someone say that.
2:34:05 I've never seen an O-Line man run that fast
Facts
Will never forget this game I was at the game the stick went nuts .
