Merry Christmas to you and yours Brian, thank you for sharing a new muzzle loading video! Your right, the camera doesn't lie, looks like a fun walk Man!
Thanks for keeping it real. Best of luck this flintlock season my friend. I have decided to take my 45 this year and try to add another notch on it. Merry Christmas and Happy new year
Looks like you found a fine hat, and frock. Can't remember where I got it, however Bertha has a brass ram rod that comes with a threaded cleaning jag that when removed, exposes a bullet puller. It fits under the barrel as it should flush at the end of the barrel. Now I wished I had purchased a dozen of them as I can't find one like it. It does add weight to the front, but I like it that way. Plus side is the ram rod has been tucked under that barrel since 1982, under every condition know to a mountain man. On the other side I have had to replace a retention spring once to keep it in place. Oh and I have never used the bullet puller. Better to have a tool and not need it, than not have it and need it. Oddly enough my range rod as it were is a 5' long 7/16" diameter piece of hickory with a brass tip on one end, also been around as long. Mountain man.
Hey Brian! Thank you for sharing this with us! I am always interested in the gear other people use... how it "rides" as they mover around. The Woods Walk is a good way to see this. I particularly admire your combination Powder Measure/Short Starter! It is a very clever idea that I intend to copy! Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you and yours!
I agree, and yes, I am happy to say I thought that up one day. It works well. I made one I lost this fall that worked better, it's dowel rod in a bear femur bone. I'm making another to replace the one I am using now in the video which is made from a G2 off an 8 point.
Merry Christmas from North Western Pa! I went out squirrel hunting yesterday after work then went to the range and shot some paper to make sure the Tennessee mountain rifle is ready for Monday! Where is Standing Stone Muzzleloaders at? May have to take a trip if not to far. Keep your powder dry and good luck next week!
@@bkauffman0390 Shoot man, I could watch woods walk videos all day, especially when the weather is like it is now! I haven't shot my woods walk since deer season started, I have this subconscious drive that tells me I need to be hunting when I'm in the woods right now.
Amazed at the fast ignition on that gun.Hang fire probably leading cause of misses with these guns. I am sure alot people struggle with that.Practice is the key to these guns for sure.Do you think the type of lock is a key to fast ignition?Kicked around putting an L&R lock on it.Have the stock TC with a Green Mountain barrel on my TC.Trying some English flints this year and got some French Amber ones also.Getting ready to head out in 4C next week.
Yup, a quick lock, polished parts and so on to give that result along with a sharp flint does wonders. I prime with 3F. It's as fast as it needs to be. Try stonewall creek for flints. I buy 80 at a time from them.
@@wish2fish37 I have not. Brad Emig did it all to this lock, I was struggling to get this lock to where it needed to be. I work way through fine sandpapers and to steel wool to get it all shined up. Buffing wheel on a Dremel tool as well
Thanks TC, I don't change my loads for target, I always shoot the same charge. Might be wasteful but I like to keep things the same. 80 grains 3F. I do lube with bear oil/ beeswax instead of spit when hunting account of cold weather.
I don't change either. I shoot 110 grains of 2F and a pillow ticking patch lubed with tallow in my .54 because that's what she likes. Love to watch you out shooting. TC
@@bkauffman0390 my loads are similar to yours for my 58. Mine likes 90 grains of 3f and a .570 ball with .018 ticking. Like you, I also use a a bear grease and beeswax patch lube.
It's a gun I built this summer and I didn't really follow any particular school. I looked at the Jon Schreiht rifle in the Schumway book, as well as a few others but basically went for a gun with Germanic features, and to date 1750-60.
@@bkauffman0390 Oh nice, I recently got back into black powder but have been struggling to find anybody else around that shoots. I was gonna start looking into clubs and my wife and I are interested in getting involved in some woods walks in Pa. We are just below Port Trevorton, I had no idea there was a club that close to us. Thank you for always responding, I am gonna look into this. Thanks for the info, love your stuff 👍
Enjoyed the walk. Wish our club had a similar opportunity for real scenario shooting.
Great vid. Like how you load your gun on video and great looking outfit!
Great video. Love the rifle and your outfit. Wish I had a club like that around here.
Enjoy your videos I enjoy shooting woodswalks most
Thanks for dragging that camera around so we could watch. Merry Christmas and good luck with the rest of season.

one 58 cal flint shooter to another, nothing quite as fun as swinging steel with a big heavy lead round ball.
Merry Christmas to ya brother!! The clothing game has stepped up another notch! Looks good.

Merry Christmas to you and your's, Brian. I screwed up and didn't leave myself a tag for flintlock season. Best of luck out there!
Great video, nice shooting just what the doctor ordered on a cold winter morning in Maine. MERRY CHRISTMAS TO YOU AND YOUR FAMILY
Merry Christmas to you as well. The flintlock is a very interesting rifle. I appreciate you taking us along on your practice.
Good video. I'm learning my flintlock rifle and she is finicky. Thanks for the walk and all the info you provide. Merry Christmas and a safe New Year.

Would you have a close approximate walking distance that it takes to complete the entire course-- out and back please? Real nice rifle, and shooting.
It's about a 300 yard loop if I had to guess.
