The hours I've spent making custom phone mounts for cars over the years I can't count - but the 3D printer sure helps. Shame I didn't know about the trick with those air vents when my friend wanted a phone mount for his dear departed MX5 though. Thanks for sharing that!

Yeah, I've made a bunch for different cars. This is the third variant for just this car. Trying different options to get the screen where I want it. But this vent mount trick is definitely the best

Getting a good phone mount in a car is a nightmare, Well done. I drove a kit car many years ago I think looking for the perfect sound in a sports car is a waste of time I think you just need a good bit of volume 👍

Good work. How is your welder getting on and do you weld aluminium with it.

My welder is awesome. Still love it when I have a project to TIG weld. This far I have not welded aluminium with any great success but I do have a thought about that. I think I didn't clean it up enough and maybe if I machine the edges/faces first to really remove the oxide layer I'd have better results. When I have time I'll give it a try.

@@MakerGeek Cheers. Do you have a foot pedal, and if so, where did you get it?

I don't. Though it is something I keep thinking about. I can see why that dynamic power control would be useful. I actually just have aluminium a go. Posted an Instagram reel with initial results. With machined surfaces to start from things went way better than I've had before. Still overcooked it. But I could also machine the melty bits back. Perhaps I should put a foot pedal in the Christmas list...

@@MakerGeek Well, the idea behind using a foot pedal is that you can dial it back as you get the aluminium hot so worth a try. Or perhaps the manual says how they should be wired and you could build one. Probably a 10K pot, then your need a cog and a rack to drive it. What 3D printers are made for!

@@MakerGeek By the way, do you operate it from a 13 Amp plug or a 16 Amp one?
