I love those raised beds and thanks for your how to do vids..i will be 71.5 years old next spring so the less bending down the better😅
“I don’t know what that is.” Me after promising myself I’d remember if I didn’t label haha. We are the same.
Awesome
I wouldn’t transplant the squash to the ground at this size. Just let them roam. Most squash will put down anchor roots if you let them roam the ground. Just keep them watered and fertilized and you’ll be fine.
Thank you for this advice!
Well done to you and for doing all the tasks yourself.
Great job. The squash plant will continue to stretch out and have squash on it all down the vines. I think I am going to build me an extended raised bed. I really like yours.
I feel your pain I’ve also planted squash and figured they weren’t all going to germinate well they did and I’ve thinned and it’s still uncontrollable chaos….its Tatuma Squash and it’s shooting vines out everywhere……I don’t know what I’m going to do with so much squash 😂😂😂😂
(Great job little sister Lynchburg va
plan to try this year!
New subscriber!😊
I really like your garden set-up.
Pay attention to your cucumber plants with your sunflower plant. I saw a video on TH-cam when a gardener had to remove from sunflower from her raised bed because it was pulling all the nutrients from her other plants and once she had removed the sunflower the plants in the bed started to thrive.
😊
Thanks for the tip! I'll definitely pay attention to that!
new subbie, your yard is beautiful, grt job prepping for the squash. Grt neighbors, good grief the size of those things. What a harvest.
Hello Evie, my first time here? I'm glad that I came across your channel. You have worked diligently in the garden today, and everything looks good. My first time I put down the landscape fabric without cardboard and grass and plants started growing. I had to go and redo it and put the cardboard underneath for extra protection. In your case, you might not have to do it, but I had to. It seems to last longer. And you have a beautiful smile. Happy gardening. 19:57
Hi and thank you so much! I used cardboard beneath the landscape fabric when we lived in Florida but decided to try using the fabric alone here in Tennessee. So far so good! The brand I use now (from Vevor) is thicker and more effective compared to what I previously ordered from Amazon.
Thanks for sharing
My pleasure
great video sis
Thank you!
I grew squash but I put them in ground I think I’ll try growing them in containers next time
I’ve been growing squash and pumpkins… and peppers in grow bags for years. I leave my peppers close together because the saying is… they like to hold hands
Yes - I've heard that too about peppers and will definitely try that this year! 😃
I was at the nursery this afternoon and a gentleman told me about the peppers holding hands. Maybe that is why I got a ton of them last year
I just came across your channel, interesting love that you started your own garden. Looks great. Keep up the good work.
Thank you so much for the encouragement!
Use fish oil fertilizer, it really helps in the green stalks
Will do! Thanks for the tip 😃
Hi there your channel came up on my feed. I really enjoy watching your garden tour and have subscribed to your channel. I grow in 30 gallon grow bags and yes squash grows very well in them. I'm looking forward to following your journey. Thanks for sharing and I'll see you in the garden 🤗
That’s great to hear! 😃 I’ve yet to grow in bags that large but will keep that in mind as I continue planning for this season. Thank you for subscribing!
I grew pink brandy wine tomatoes in a large grow bag. I kept it on the ground. The roots grew right through. And the plant got really big. Than I just picked up the bag. And it was fine.
What kind of animals are in your area that would get into your garden?
Dozens of varieties of birds pop over for a visit everyday. Rabbits, deer, and our neighbor’s dogs, are the only other animals I’ve observed on or near the property so far.
How are you dealing with deer? Great job and it looks great …….
We haven't encountered any deer on our property (yet) fortunately. This year, my goal is to place as many lavender and marigold plants as possible around the perimeter of the garden area, orchard area, and driveway. I've read that they also don't like rosemary, chives, and bee balm, so if I have any extras of those plants, I'll plant them strategically as well. Many of the same plants are said to repel mice and rabbits as well, which are our primary pests.
What an amazing space you have there! May I ask what the plastic fencing is called? I would love to use something like this to keep my dog out of my garden area without having to build a fence.
Thank you! I purchased the electric poultry fencing from Starkline.com. The fence is not electrified mainly because it is temporary around the garden until I finish designing and building the kind of fencing I want to setup permanently. Hope that helps! 😀
That seems like a good problem to have
Please stake your tomatoes, oh you did. I only grow sqash in ground.
Hi Evie, did you buy your fencing already put together or did you assemble it yourself? Where did you purchase it… would love to have something like that for my garden
Hi! I purchased the electric poultry fencing from Starkline.com. It comes already assembled. I do not have it electrified mainly because it is temporary around the garden until I finish designing and building the kind of fencing I want to setup permanently. But for now it works well to keep dogs and wild rabbits out of the garden beds! I plan to post a review video of the fencing, after I see how it weathers all four seasons in this climate. But so far so good! 😊
@@EviesAcres …
Thank you- I will await your review 😊
What would happen if you let the squash vines climb a tree?
Interesting idea…it would need to be a thin yet sturdy tree! 😊
Depends on the tree and the squash. It will either take over the tree and the tree won't care or it may pull the tree down if the tree is small and the squash are heavy. I've done it before it can work if you plane adequately
What growing zone are you in? I am in zone 7a.
We’re also in zone 7a
I just looked over your profile and it says you are in Tennessee.. It's so nice to see another brown girl homesteading in my area.
Yes! I just subbed to your channel and hope you’ll continue posting! 😊
