My Iggy, he was part retriever too, he use to hug me. He was so warm and soft, we'd lay in bed together too...miss him but still feel it like it was yesterday

Those blue-eyes he has as a puppy gives this breed away: Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever. A friend has one and it is the smartest dog I've ever met. Great personality.

Edit: A neighbor dog does this with blankets too! She brings her favorite blanket to bed, and carries them around the house, and waits patiently watching the washer whenever her favorite one is being washed.

This reminds me of my late adopted doggo that always had to have something in his mouth when greeting people. Like a big fluffy teddy bear. He wouldn't just go to people entering, no, he would see them and go back get his teddy bear, then return to actually greet.
