    Thank you! We have a 2013 Chevy Suburban and the dash cracked in the exact spot you show in your first repair scenario. While I'm sure heat has something to do with it, we live in a relatively mild climate (San Fran) and I've lived in much hotter climates (Fl and Tx) and never had this issue. I'm much more inclined to blame the craftsmanship of the Suburban, as research has shown this make/model/year is notorious for cracked dashboards near the passenger airbag. The local GM dealership wants almost $3k to repair it, but thanks to your video, hopefully I can get it done for less than $100! Much appreciated!

      @@SweetProjectCars you really don’t know what a world of difference your videos make for people. My newly purchased 2019 dodge caravan was a wreck on the inside but I spent 3 hours cleaning the front last night. I whipped out the heat gun and I was watching those gashes and gouges disappear. I put some polish on there and called it a night. Came back this am to take a look and was surprised at the outcome. I am going to fix the dash as mentioned in your video here and as well I am going to clean the carpets using your method in another video. Thank you making it easy to understand and follow along with. 🥰👍🏼🇨🇦

    One tip if you're not a professional, the fiberglass resin epoxy is incredibly thin . I would suggest using an epoxy with more body, readily available at any auto parts store in small quantities, "JB weld quick weld" is a good one as an all-around repair tool.

    Although the dryness doesn't help, the inside corner is subject to stress concentration from expansion due to temperature rise. The corner's stress rises as each edge expands, and that is why it is always seen at the corners (like breaking a 90 degree picture frame joint). Nice work on the fix!
    (Also, stress concentration is seen at the corners of saw-cut concrete expansion joints. It is a sharp corner, and this is why they all chip away - especially at 4-way joints (each a 3-surface corner). This time, the corner is pushed out as the concrete expands. Have them radius the joints, and it should last - like they used to.

Going to try this, then i am using wrap across my dash since its center of the dashboard, then creatively adding that wrap in curb design, putting flat rubber strip on edges of the wrap that matches my other leather wrap. hoping it will give it a cool look while totally hiding it. This is the best solution for this kind of problem. My 2013 Tahoe cracked by the cluster hump. I was going to put one of those covers you glue on,but it has a loud vibration noise I will have to fix first. I will glue it like you did and then put the thin cover you glue on. I never knew about crazy glue and baking soda. There are so many people like you that have years of experience and like to share it with do it yourselfers like me. If I can get it finished and looking good, I won’t use the cover. Also my little red light in the center of dash by windshield fell in the opening for it,so I’m going to attempt to find a solution for that, I hope. Thanks for the great pointers. Bill

      @68Camaro RS/SS Because one is from '68, and the other '70. All newer Chevy and Chrysler plastics crack easily.

      I have an aveo 08, no cracks either but chevi is crazy. It puts wood imitation inserts to the dash, bose sound system and combines with a shitty plastic dash...really???? Either you keep a cheap car cheap, meaning shitty materials and options or you make it expensive and use good materials and good options. You have bose sound system but the car's plastic parts rattle so loud you can't hear anything from your premium speaker system :-)

I don't understand I keep it protected with sun visor and clean it often for years with 303. Apparently I am not the only Hyundai Genesis owner with this problem. This is such a valuable lesson in repairing problematic dash issues. I think we have all come across a situation where this would have done wonders to enhance the structure as well as the appearance of such a bad idea. Out of curiosity, do you think one could take a putty or something to replicate the texture and let that harden, then use the hardened mold to replicate the texture into the vinyl filler as it cures? Not that it is really needed, but that could further enhance the repair! Thank you for all the wonderful information you have provided this year! Hope your holidays are wonderful and an even better 2019 is on tap!

    • @SweetProjectCars
      @SweetProjectCars  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      JT's World we have only one way to replicate the texture and that will be shared in the up and coming video this friday my friend :)

    • @tundrajt
      @tundrajt 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I can’t wait to find out how you restore the texture! Probably will be much better than my idea!

(kinda wished I kept the paula mobile so I could have "experimented" hee hee hee). Very interesting with what you did with that baking soda and now, all I want for christmas is a bottle of 303 ;) Can't wait for your next video :) P.S. How often should you apply 303? Hey guys, with the large crack can you put a bridge piece under there first? Then when that's dry glue the original pieces back in place without grinding? Just a thought 👍😁

    • @SweetProjectCars
      @SweetProjectCars  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Cliff Bartram you can but the problem there my friend and why we did it that way was you cant pull the dash up in that area as we did on the smaller crack. if you did pull the dash up there you would have to disconnect all the wires and unbolt it and then try to get to the broken area and with the dash cracked all the way up to the top you would make it crack even more, then after you do all of that the dash will eventually crack in another area, the video we will show this coming friday will show how to stop the existing dash from cracking any more and make the dash look brand spanking new thanks mike
