Every time I see people handle watches like that makes me never want to buy a used watch. As for placing the watch on the bracelet one time I was trying on a watch I had placed the one I was wearing crown up on the tray. The sales lady moved my watch to face up on the bracelet while I tried theirs on. Since then if I really want to be sure it won’t happen again I just put my own watch on the other wrist while I try on the other watch.

Also, don't dealers always tell customers to not use Chrono24 to define prices of the watch market when customers want to buy a watch for cheaper but when it comes to a customer selling a watch, the dealers want to use chrono24 to show the customer how cheap they're going for?
He didn't strike me as someone who was buying watches purely to quickly sell on at a profit. He just wanted to sell part of his collection....nothing wrong with that IMO.

They lowball people wanting to dump their watches then act like they are doing you a favor offering you consignment where they get your watches for free and make money on them. They pay nothing for the watch. Then they mark the watch up to make a profit and the owner takes ALL the risks 😂
Consignment is a con, 1st they price the watch higher than identical ones they have in stock , which sells theirs more, they will then contact you and ask you to reduce the prices. Also more importantly you are letting them have your watch for nothing , if they go bust , your watch is gone. Consignment means the dealer doesn’t have the cash
I personally thought the opposite from this video. I bought a Rolex datejust diamond dial with jubilee for 13k and they are claiming to give the guy 12k on consignment for a less sought after watch (oyster bracelet) the profit margin is well under 10% there and that’s assuming they get the same price I paid for mine which they probably wouldn’t. My take away is that they want people to think they pay a lot for watches to tempt them to try and sell them.

@@connor7162 Consignment might only mean 10% profit for the dealer, but you also have to factor in the dealer has no capital at risk. They do not have any money locked up in the product. The dealer has nothing at risk and will make 10% profit regardless of what the watch sells for.
So sad, he looked at that 5712 like it was absolute rubbish. By the way, a dealer should be refurbishing the watch after buying it, not asking the seller to.
These guys are looking to get around 25% profit which is quite a lot especially on watches like the Bluesy that they can sell very quickly. It’s just not worth loosing so much money selling to a grey market dealer.

I'm in two minds about "investment" watches. There are rare watches increase in value, but I can't get my mind around how a mass produced model fits the concept of rare. Hype yes, rare no.

I've now got a Grand Seiko which suits me far more. It's incredibly high quality, beautifully made and utterly understated which is what I want at this stage of my life. I'll leave the obvious watches to the younger flasher lads as that seems to be who Rolex are targeting now.

I don't understand why you'd go to a dealer to sell a watch. Using them to track down a watch you can't find perhaps, but not sell. You'll get much less than you would by selling the watch yourself, even if you PX.
I would suggest that the convenience offered by a dealer such as Watchrader is the main attraction. Many people don't want to have the hassle and stress of selling a watch themselves. At the end of the day it is good to have choices.
I agree it's good to have choices, but I struggle with the price difference between the dealer and doing it yourself which can be substantially different. I tried to move on a watch I had last year via dealer (admittedly a different dealer, but one we'd all recognise) and was offered over £2,000 less than I achieved by doing it myself. The only things I had to do was take a few pictures, make the listing and post the watch. I don't think the convenience of not doing those quick tasks is worth the £2,000 but each to their own. @@philipwood1736

A few things bother me. First, these are new unworn watches (with stickers) but the gentleman keeps pressing his fingers on the dial every time he speaks. The watches are laying flat, so every time the gentleman pushes his fingers on it, the metal of the bracelet rubs against itself..metal to metal. Hey, no big deal if you own it, but it's a watch for sale with the claims of never being worn. Second. Why are they not wearing gloves? Lastly, why are they handling these unworn watches at all?
