Busting and Bagging Big Oak Firewood and a Breakdown

  • In today's project, we've got the Split Force 13/20T splitter busting big Oak rounds into firewood. We'll use the hydraulic log lift to get the pieces on the splitter. Split them down from several different angles. Use the conveyor to fill a bulk bag. Then use the Kioti NX5510 4x4 tractor to move the bag for customer pickup. That's where things start to fall apart and we run into some mechanical trouble. Hopefully we can figure this mess out...

    That super deluxe wood splitter is a monster. I always leaned toward less splitting and bigger fireboxes.
    At least your tractor fuse block is in a convenient location. To access all of the under dash fuse blocks on every vehicle I own, you'd need to be a double jointed octopus.

      @@FoxfireProjects - When your tractor is fixed, maybe post a video with a searchable title describing the problem and the repair. I love crowd sourced repair info. It's a way to fight back against proprietary service information that prevents us from repairing our machines. Farm equipment manufacturers have been among the worst offenders in denying our right of repair.

    There are so many times one of these splitters would come in handy. I just finished making a new firewood bunker and set my elevator up directly into it but being able to turn from the bunker directly to my dump truck would be very cool.

    Red oak splits so nice 👍🏼. Mother Nature thought I didn’t have enough to do this weekend so she dropped a big red oak in the edge of my yard last night during a storm lol. As for the tractor, where would we be if we didn’t have all these safety features 🙄…..and def fluid 😑

    • @FoxfireProjects
      @FoxfireProjects  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Agreed, it's my favorite wood to split, especially when it's cold, it just pops open. Gotta love storm damage, but at least it's red oak and not a sweet gum. We'd be in the field working, instead of the barn pulling our hair out and the interior of the tractor apart 😂 Hopefully get it solved this weekend. Thanks so much for the comment and for watching!!

    Nice video, thanks for sharing. I'm sorry about your tractor frustration. I'm new to your channel due to that wood splitter your working. Is that a Canadian made splitter? Can I asked you it's price when you bought it? And I noticed there are no bars to remove stuck rounds of wood, up to the splitter's wedge. Did you remove them?

    • @FoxfireProjects
      @FoxfireProjects  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Glad to have you Ron! Appreciate the kind words. It is a Canadian made splitter. Price was around $21k, but that was during the pandemic, before supply chain/materials issues, and the dreaded inflation. Mathieu at Split Force can get a current quote. Every once in a while, the wedge will stick in a piece of wood. I just knock it free with a piece of firewood and keep on trucking. It's a great machine. Thanks so much for watching!

    Oh boy, an electrical gremlin... You thought of some thorough tests I wouldn't have, so you're probably better at this stuff than me. But my next step would be to start bypassing safety switches, particularly the seat, and see where that goes. Testing for solid grounds on whatever made sense is practical. Finally loose connections. A loose negative battery terminal left me to coast down a mountain pass in Colorado once. After I stumbled onto it I had even had time to ride a couple more old mining roads and was feeling peppy since I solved the problem. I'm sure you're pouring over your favorite search engine for ideas! Some quality time with a volt meter and you should have it licked. I bet it's something vibrated loose or corroded.

    • @FoxfireProjects
      @FoxfireProjects  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      These kind of things drive me bonkers. Hopefully this weekend I'll have some time to do as you suggested and bypass each safety switch. Coasting down a mountain pass sounds like quite the ride, at least it was the battery terminal and not the brakes that gave out haha. Will definitely update when I find the culprit, but at least my screwdriver key works in the meantime. Always appreciate your comments and you watching!!

      It's super handy being able to move it around and reposition as needed. Split Force is Canadian, and were very easy to deal with. I paid around $19k USD for this unit. That was pre pandemic with the supply chain and materials shortages. I believe they are a bit more these days, like everything else. Thanks again for watching!

      I am! Have really fallen into a rhythm with the Split Force 13/20T. Zero issues other than wedging a piece of split wood under the conveyor chain (my fault for not picking up the conveyor when it got close to the top of the pile). It just works and I don't have to worry about it! Thanks for checking back in. Appreciate you watching!

    has that splitter ever given you a problem with splitting knotty wood at all? anything it hasn't been able to split?

    • @FoxfireProjects
      @FoxfireProjects  ปีที่แล้ว

      I've had a few pieces get wedged, that had to be pounded out and turned slightly, but those are rare, and mostly due to me not paying attention. Hard to bog down a single wedge, even in knotty wood, especially if you know what you're doing. We go through quite a bit of tree service wood, and it works really well. That being said, the really ugly pieces get thrown on the boiler wood pile. Sometimes it's just not worth the extra time and effort for the really ugly stuff. Thanks so much for watching!
