@@mancavemoto really quiet for an adv helmet. Have fitted packtalk edge, but no speakers as I’ve got in ear monitors. Absolutely perfect. Thanks for the great review on it Tony👍👍
I just bought an Arai and it doesn't bother me all not having a sun visor. I much prefer to wear sunglasses all day, way better vision as long as you have good quality lenses.🙂
My current helmet has a sun visor and I forget about it completely. I think I've used it twice while owning the helmet for 2 years. I wear awesome sunglasses a lot, though.
Great review, I too have this helmet and love it. Summer it is amazing with the ventilation. Winter though it lets a fair bit of cold air in. I use a neck water and a balaclava as it simply gets too much air in. That's until I just saw that chin part.... dam.... thank you.... Fantastic run down and some great points. Thanks.
Thanks for the vid. I’ve never owned any Arai so am very interested in long term reviews like yours. It’s still a toss up between this and the Klim for me but I need something with a peak soon. Currently using a Neotec3 which is amazing but I miss that peak. Great honest vid. 👌🏍️
That particular helmet looks good, really like how glittery that silver shade is. Awesome helmet, I'll be on the lookout if it's ever released in my country, as it demands some bureaucracy and having a government seal of approval glued to the helmet, so if I import one and get caught riding whilst wearing the helmet, my bike is gonna be impounded and I'll be fined into smithereens lol
Thanks for the update on this helmet. I watched your video about the new Nexx wed helmet. In that video you mentioned how the next helmets peak is well damped and doesn’t resonate into the helmet. How does the Arai peak compare?
The peak on the Arai is designed to be more solid, it takes a completely different approach to the Nexx. Both didnt give me any problems, but the Arai just doesnt move, and thus doesnt resonate on the shell. Hope that helps
I am a road rider and do not have any arai but like the review and find it very interesting as an helmet shoei Neotec2 , Scorpion960 ( no peak) , nolan Nx70 ( no Peak) , Nolan N70 gt , and the new one Touratech( Nexx) adventuro2 carbon ( no peak) and no drop down...(full face) still to be tested , I do like adv helmet for the view you have . the Nolans are great city helmet to remove the front part, Shoei I love it as a highway helmet same for the scorpion and will have to see with the new Touratech ... I like the drop down visor but also have a pair of Photochromic glasses that I use all the time .....love to have the visor open... I do enjoy changing the helmets around and they all have sena... this year I am trying the cardo on the new helmet. I do find the Arai a bit pricy but so is the Neotec that I like very much. again thanks for all your great reviews on bike and equipments. Alain & Yellow
I wanted the Aluminium Silver as in your review, sadly not available in the UK, very frustrating. My local DNA centre wouldn't price match against Spanish price, so I bought from Motocard, wasn't able to buy the A Silver though. X5 replaced my x3.....peak on the 5 sits higher than 3 so not as good for keeping the sun off the face, also much noisier than the 3. Riding to Yorkshire from the Cotswolds this week, give it a longer test.
Hi Tony, I’ve just bought the Tour X5, having owned several Tour X4’s and using Sena intercoms. Loving my Tour X5 and after huge disappointment with Sena over the years, I’ve finally taken the plunge and bought the Cardo Packtalk Edge. Boy I wish I had gone with Cardo along time ago, it’s simply night and day over the Sena, I’m so impressed and it actually does as they say on the box, unlike the Sena units. I simply love the Cardo Edge, does everything I want, superb sound, ease of use and work superbly with my Africa Twin using Apple CarPlay.
nice review thanks, I used to have XD4 and the fog was a real problem for me in winter. My question is about sizing and if there is a difference between the old and the new? I wore size small with XD4. Should I keep the same size with the new one?
Yep same here, and this one seems to have solved that particular problem. The sizing in terms of diameter are the same, but it is a slightly different headform, so i'd definitely recommend trying one on in store.
I purchased the TX5 in March and love the fit etc. However, I find it more noisy than the TX4, actually a lot more noisy. I also get a very irritating rattle (sounds like mice scratching around in the helmet) from the small top vent when it is closed as the slider is a loose fit. When it is open the rattle stops. I wrote to Arai but have no response yet to see if this was common of a fault with my particular helmet. I run both the TX4 and TX5 side by side as I switch bikes so find the noise difference a constant cause of frustration.
Could that extra noise come from the slightly different fit? Definitely worth talking to your local distributor about the top vent. Mines been fine….so far
I've got a same irritating rattling sound from the top vent too..in open and in closed position..only in halfway open it stops rattling. Even worse that I just purchased it a few days ago...
I've found the pull down chin curtain pretty useless, it's not stiff enough so it easily gets knocked back up. There is also a considerable draft up across the face, I installed an RX-7V chin curtain which helps a lot.
Hi Tony 🤝 nice review as always 👍 Question - if money ignored, which You prefer Arai X5 or Nexx WED3? Furthermore, do You wear same size (L/XL?) for both? Do You find fitting perfect from the begining?
Cheers, thats a great question. I find them really really hard to split. The Arai is just gorgeous, its comfortable and quiet. But the Nexx is also comfortable and quiet, plus the drop down visor and action cam mount are really neat features. I wear a Large in both helmets, and I've not had to make any adjustments to the fit.
Mine was worn for about 500 miles before being returned for a faulty visor. Also causing headaches. Very disappointed and confused as to what to do at the moment. Not at all what it was cracked up to be, or how it first seemed.
The visor should be warranty fix or helmet replacement, these things happen from time to time, but the headache problem sounds like that was caused from a poor fit?
Well I bought one and honestly, I don't think it's any better than the X4 overall Ventilation is, I think, worse, vision is a bit better Fit is about the same, perhaps a little better but the peak is no different really, noise seems worse because of all the sticky out moldings and whatnot Kinda wish I hadn't bothered tbh but if nothing else I guess it's a new lid to a higher standard Arai don't seem to be moving on much overall - their dogma about drop down sun visors and the like isn't doing them any real favours
Thats a really tricky question. I think the Arai is better looking, and is beautifully finished, but the Nexx has that drop down visor, and importantly for me on this channel, it also has the action cam mount. I'll probabaly switch between the two depending on what i'm doing?
Hi Man Cave Moto! I have a question I think you could possibly answer. Unfortunately there's no dealership around my place (in a circle of 100 miles) where I could try or buy Nexx, Scorpion or Arai Helmets. For me Arai and Shoei helmets proved to be very comfortable as with Schuberth (R2) and HJC (F71) I had problems with the top forehead area (pain from pressure). Which helmet could fit me the best?: Scorpion ADF 9000, Nexx X.Wed 3 or LS2 MX701Explorer (don't know if you tried the latter one). Or would I be better off going directly for the Arai Tour X5 instead? I like the style of the Arai and they fit my head very well (but I haven't tried the X5 in particular). What speaks in favor of the other helmets which I mentioned is the much cheaper price. Thanks a lot in advance! :) And thanks for the great content as well!
I would say you will likely have the same problem with the Scorpion as you do with the Schuberth and HJC, its a very similar fit. I've not tried any of the LS2, but if Shoei is good then the Nexx should be good for you too.
General question, rhetorical in nature. I don’t understand why we can’t go to a location where we stick our head into a machine that grabs it, making an exact 3D map, which we then keep to provide to a helmet manufacturer when ordering a new helmet. Presumably the resulting fit will be perfect. Sure it is going to cost more, but one would assume that the high degree of accuracy satisfaction comfort and safety resulting from the “perfect fit”, is going to be worth it for both customer and manufacturer. Thoughts people?
Does this whistle like the X4? I made the error of buying an X4 recently (at a great price) and have returned it due to the kettle style whistle I get from it. Let’s see what the shop say as I’m not happy with it but still want and adventure style lid
Im disappointed on the TX5 on the fitting , i purchased as soon it came into Northern Ireland, my head size is 56cm which is a small. Tx5 in small is far too tight and put pressure on my head and left red marks after half hour, and the medium was too big, got an Arai service man came to me to see about custom fitted pads etc , he even said himself that none of the two sizes suits me at all. Although I tried on the TX4 in small and it fits so much comfortable and more room compare to the tx5 for I don’t know why when the tx5 was meant to be more roomier, my nose even touches the nose air deflector. I’ve always had arais all my life, got a few rx7vs and no problems with fitment. I’m needing an adventure helmet due with a new bike i got and I’m unsure which to get now, was looking at the scorpion adf9000 or the new nexx x.wed3 Which would you go for ?
that is strange. its definitelty a slightly different shape as the TX4 in large had my chin up against the inside, but not on the TX5. I found the Scorpion and Nexx to be very diiferent fits, the Scorpion is a little rounder in head shape, but both good helmets. Whichever one of those fits you best you'd be happy with i think
@@mancavemoto I ended up purchasing the scorpion adf 9000, had to get medium, the small was tight, but the medium just a tag wee bit loose not overly snug , aww I don’t know , I’ve a weird head size , shame I wasn’t a 57cm head so that it be perfect in medium
