    This odd size suitcase is the kind that baggage handlers dislike coz they're bulky and super heavy. They hate them so they throw them even harder. I have a Rimowa Classic Cabin S in silver that I adore and never check-in lol.. I also have the Rimowa Hybrid Check-in M in black that has been on 3 long-haul international trips with me so far. The corners are scratchy, but zero dents or cracks on the body. It's pretty good and solid! I honestly do not recommend the full aluminium check-in version. Trust me it WILL get dented and not worth your thousands for it to be thrown around and dented like that. If you must must have a Rimowa aluminium, get the check-in so it stays with you. If you must must have a Rimowa check-in, get the hybrid. Much better quality than their full polycarbonate (those crack easily) and not as expensive as the the full aluminium. But still looks and feels expensive if u need that aesthetic boost. 😂

    I have the same trunk coming u p to 5 years of use and 3 services in between. What you mentioned about quality/durability is true. The first time i ever checked in my trunk it lost one of its wheels probably due to mishandling during loading.

    As a traveller used to fly 100k+ miles/yr, I use only Rimowa's bullet proof Salsa Deluxe after first Rimowa Stealth. Every Rimowa service tales long time so for any frequent traveller, better choose a bullet proof Rimowa instead of the most expensive Rimowa.

    I'm a bit of a Rimowa fanboy myself. Totally get the points about the size, even though I don't have that size myself.

    Can you post an update about the damages after those years? I have huge issues with my trunk getting really deep scratches and I’m a little bit worried about how the damage will be after a few years

    Question please: Do you find the weight of the trunk empty, limits you to what you can pack into it and still stay within the total weight limit? Compared to some fabric luggage, the Rimowa can be 4-5 pounds heavier empty thus giving up 4-5 of packing capability.

    • @TheDubaiExpat
      @TheDubaiExpat  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Lexie, I never had a problem with the weight as most of the time I have a weight limit of 25 or 30kg and only use it for the week. As you can see in the video I travel only with around 15kg for one week.

    Is that the Rimowa Trunk the 28.8” trunk? I.e. not the trunk plus or trunk small. Have you ever had any problems at check in with it? Any airline staff trying to check it in as over sized luggage? Or make you pay extra if it’s over their luggage dimensions? I have two check in Large’s but thinking about the trunk for my bulkier items. Just worried about airline staff thinking it’s over sized or odd size luggage.

    • @TheDubaiExpat
      @TheDubaiExpat  4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Hey Kristian it is the Trunk medium size which is equal to the check in large from its volume. I never had any issues with it due to the size. Usually I travel with Emirates but also used cheaper airlines like flydubai. For bulky stuff you will love it :)

    damn I can get 33% off and after watching this vid, is it worth spending $1900 of the truck size or get the essential truck for $1000 but thats plastic n by seeing ur luggage with those dents is it even worth getting the plastic ones 🤔

    • @TheDubaiExpat
      @TheDubaiExpat  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The plastic ones will not get dents so easily I think. But they come with a zipper I think, which can be a weakness. If you need to carry more bulky stuff like boots or helmets, get the trunk. If not get a normal size.

    • @huhuhuhu2470
      @huhuhuhu2470 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      airport luggage belt travels 30m/h and if you travel to cold countries, plastic is very brittle, and easily to break when crushes into conveyor belt turnings. metal ones are better in this sense, but if not packed full, metal cases will be squashed like a coke can easily.

    I don't know man this looks more like a trouble to me. I mean aluminum looks awesome but right after one flight it won't look the same again. Then again the price point is extreme. I really want to make the most suitable purchase for me as everyone does. I am 6'7'' 230lbs muscular so I wear XXL sizes and I love getting my shearling jackets and my (46) sized boots with me during winter vacations but that happens once or twice per season. Summer is definitely easier as I only have to pack a couple of loafers, shirts etc. So I am wondering Check-in L or Trunk? And aluminum or polycarbonate?

    Would you reccomend the trunk or check in L?

    • @TheDubaiExpat
      @TheDubaiExpat  4 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      It depends on your usage. If you need to carry bulky stuff like helmets or boots, I think the trunk is amazing. If you just wanna use it for holidays and normals clothes a few times per year, I would get the check in large. I think you can store that one better at home, it is more convenient to pack and feels more robust to me.

    • @TheDubaiExpat
      @TheDubaiExpat  4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Hey Lexie, i thought the original would be more robust with better protected handles for check in. Also the edge Protection looked better on the original. As you can see in the Video the edges are usually the parts of the suitcase that gets some heavy hits.

    Hi! Between trunk polycarbonate vs aluminium, which would you recommend? Thank you!

    • @TheDubaiExpat
      @TheDubaiExpat  4 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Hey Einil, depends what is important for you. If you often have problems with 30kg weight allowance, go for the polycarbonate. In my experience, 25kg is already more than enough for that size. I often take my safety shoes, some tools and so on with me in the trunk. SO I prefer having no zipper and a more robust suitcase. But especially the zipper would annoy me I think. Also I like the feeling of aluminium and the pure classic rimowa design which started with aluminium.

    • @wonderland4543
      @wonderland4543 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I have the polycarbonate and the shell is too soft. My macbook got bent inside. Rimowa needs to make the shell harder. I love the space though. I want the aluminum because it looks the best!

    All I heare about Rimowa so far is that it can be very very unreliable and if you don’t live in a country with a Rimowa store you better not buy it because you will not be able to service it. I really wanted one because the design is great but it seems better at this point to go with Samsonite as it has fantastic reliability and stores in virtually every contry (at least Europe and Asia).
